Watch Owen Turtenwald battle Valentin Mackl in the semfinals of Grand Prix Albuquerque 2013. Format: Standard Complete coverage: www.wizards.com/magic/magazine...
Agreed. This is an incredibly boring Grand Prix. Every deck is the same. Every match-up is the same. So many competitive decks, and this is all we get, because people want to win rather than have some fun.
Winning may be awful fun for the players, but it makes for some rather boring watching. I mean ... just two devotion decks? For crying out loud. When it all comes down to two decks anyone can copy off a net-deck list, it stops being an interesting competition altogether. It comes down to a luck roulette, added to a "who can make the most screw-ups" element. It's no longer about skill and creativity; just buy the deck, pilot it, win if you get the right cards at the right times, yay pro points. Put two computers playing instead of the players and the results will be very much the same.
