I had the opportunity to meet Grant Hill and his lovely wife several years ago. He is as he comes across even when the cameras are off, Very kind, genuine, gracious and humble. Growing up in Detroit, Michigan we HATED Duke, Grant and all his teammates! it was bad LOL, BUT, when Grant became a Piston and I met him that time... I've been rooting for his success and blessings ever since.
Grant Hill by far the most humblest guy. Grant has never changed his demeanor since I’ve been watching him at duke. The dude is consistent! What a great human being. He was supposed to be that guy that was the face of the NBA after MJ. Really sad circumstances plagued his health and slowed his career down a couple gears but he never gave up. We need more grant hills in life and society.👍🏼🙏🏼
Grant is a Pro at interviews and would probably make a great politician. No matter how much the media try's to bait him to speak negatively about another player, he always seems to comment without saying offensive or negative things about them. Class personified.
First and foremost, the impression I've always gotten from Grant Hill is he's just a good dude. A guy can bestow no greater compliment on another guy than that.
I 've been a Duke fan since 1984 , Grant Hill is the best player out of Duke hands down . He is even better as a person . Mr and Mrs Hill you two raised a fine and very respectful human being. Go Duke Nation 💙.
Dan give some terrible interviews at time. Cuts his guys off to put his input in etc....not a fan. Wanted to hear Grant talk more about guarding Jordan and what separated him from Kobe and Lebron.
Any guests when asked about MJ: So I think the reason Michael was so hard to defend was beca- (Dan interrupts: Why do you think that is?) Dan, for the love of god let your guests talk. My goodness. None of his conversations can ever flow naturally or keep us intrigued because they can't even finish their thought
Grant Hill wasn't lying... check Basketball Reference, he played 12 minutes in his last game in 2003 against the Wizards and did not play again until 2004
seriously though I'm staying up late watching some of his highlights, he would cross a guy over like AI or Kyrie and then dunk it from the top of the key like Jordan, just such an unstoppable player. Add amazing defence to that. Was such a shame watching his late career when he couldn't really dunk anymore...
Yes and to me that is part of why (injuries aside) he was not an all time NBA Great. Talent yes and he was hurt a lot but he Didn't have that killer look when he played.
i think he was little overrated, he was n o where hear talented as kobe for example. he was a little step up maybe from v carter possibily. i think mcgrady was better and so on
@@davidchandler6885 Aren't quite sure exactly how long ago you became a b-ball junkie, but dig this...G.Hill was about to take over the league. That's facts bro. Total package. Handles, hops, shot, d, charisma, etc... Believe that.
@@davidchandler6885 he wasn't overrated by a long stretch. He could do it all well. Prior to getting hurt I think he surpassed even the high expectations set upon him. Dude made it look easy and I can see how that could make you feel that way.
So dan finally asks a great question about guarding all these greats, cuts him off, doesnt let him finish, and goes on about his injuries that we all know about and care less about. Great Job Dan. FFS
Super glad that Duncan stayed on the spurs, but man, a healthy Grant Hill and a Prime Time duncan playing for the magic. anyone remember when that might have been a thing??
Best Duke player, Grant Hill or Zion? The difference is one guy had one season of work and the other had 4. What if Zion had 4 years at Duke to review?
9:24 wow, grant hill has really improved a lot at being humorous, seen clips of him hosting nba inside stuff with kristen ledlow years ago and the atmosphere was just so awkward.
I'd like to know who the dirty SOBs in the Pistons organization were that pressured him to play in that series. Detroit was an 7th seed, and they would have been lucky to have won even one game; Grant should have been held out of that series. Joe D was only an assistant to the GM at that time, and I find it hard to believe that Bill Davidson would have pushed him to play on a bad ankle.
Prime Grant Hill, The best of Magic, the best of Bird, and more than a little MJ. And by his 3rd season, he was dveloping a killer instinct on offense, defense and the boards. Amazing player.
Three players that would have been top 15 all-time if not for injuries are Grant Hill, Bill Walton, and Derrick Rose. Another mention is Drazen Petrovic. He likely would have been a top 35 - 40 player if not killed in an accident.
If others who preceded Zion he would not have this exposure. Logic. Jordan was not as featured and on. Cannot compare them in college. In NBA, yes, but between years 5-10
This is the game that Grant Hill is referring to at the end. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kODtXcWaEwc.html Jordan was giving it to him and TMac. Ironically, Laettner was playing for the Wizards at the time too.
MJ was winning scoring titles and a 1st team defensive all NBA player when Grant Hill was cooking him and Pippen. The videos are right here on RU-vid. And he was giving the business to Shaq and Kobe too.
@@davidhill7071 GH was amazing, love that guy, but that was not prime Jordan. Yes MJ was still winning everything, but that's because an 80% MJ was still better than everyone else. But by 10 years in the league (~93) MJ's game started going to the post turnaround J and using brains to compensate for down-trending athleticism on D.
especially if you were alive and breathing in the NBA during the '90s... Dan Patrick will ask did you ever use the bath room if the answer is yes, then he'll ask "what hand does Jordan use in the bathroom"
Spoken like the typical, ignorant, prisoner of the moment, latest = greatest, dumb Generation Z idiot. You clearly didn't see a prime Grant Hill to have uttered something so ridiculous...SMH
I'm a UCONN fan and used to hate Laettner and Duke for what they did vs Rod Sellers. Kicked him on the floor but always respected their grind. That Kentucky game was the best college basketball game I had ever seen. Neither team could stop the other. Johnny Dawkins is actually my favorite Duke player but if you are being honest Christian had the best college basketball career ever....maybe outside of Kareem or Bill Walton. Grant Hill in his prime in the NBA was a beast. I remember him dunking on dudes a lot.
Grant Hill would eat Zion alive. I love watching Zion but Grant doesnt get his due. He was a cerebal player even when he had athleticism. Most modern players are way more skilled because they have access to so much information. You can get on RU-vid in 6th grade and learn anything you want these days. Grant was polished as a rookie. He had poise as a rookie like Bird and Magic. Very underrated.
Zion. Greatest of all time. Please. Lew Alcindor, as a freshman, beat the defending champs. Sorry, no contest. Alcindor would have won 4 national championships if he had been allowed to play all 4 years. You might know him as Kareem!
Slow your roll ... Zion is not the greatest college player in basketball ever. Lew Alcindor was 80-2 at UCLA with 3 National Titles. Also won the title as a freshman on the freshman team (against other freshmen). Zion is great ... but hes not the greatest ever. 80-2 is unreal ...
@@jeffmooney3991 what would be your reasoning for Laettner over Kareem? Don't see it. Three titles, lost one, ONE... game, they changed the rules of the game because of Kareem!
@@MikeJones-fv1fe because I am a Duke fan, and I also watched him. I watched Kareem in the pros. It is the same with kids now days that didn't see Jordan, but have watched Lebron. I saw Laettner in clutch moments come through when the game was on the line. Also I said this is my opinion, and I have heard alot of talk shows over the years say they think Laettner is the best college player ever. It doesn't mean any of us are right.
Grant Hill was not a role player his freshman year at Duke. Grant Hill is THE reason Duke beat UNLV and won the national championship that year. UNLV runs Duke off the court like they did the year before if Grant played at Georgetown instead.
Why people other than Duke fans care about Laettner? Just because he was on the Dream Team as a joke? He should have been replaced with Isiah Thomas. Lots of overhyped college players never make an impact in the next level.
Very smart dude. Nice guy Grant charmed and conned the foolish Orlando Magic into giving him nearly $100 million dollar guaranteed contract for nothing when he knew his career was over due to that ankle and couldn't perform at the same level.
The game video is here on RU-vid. Look for Grant Hill Detroit pistons before the injury against Lakers Kobe and Shaq. Grant did whatever he wanted to on the court. Look it up. Grant was not a scrub. 34pts 15reb 14ast
@@a6life874 Kobe might have been 19 but not everybody else on the team. Grant did whatever he wanted to, scored from everywhere on the court on everybody.
