As promised in my video exploring the use of non-native aspect ratios, I have tested every graphics setting in Rainbow Six Siege to find the optimal choice in terms of image quality and framerate. Let me walk you through them one by one to show you what each setting does and how intensive the demand on your hardware will be.

So much bullshit didnt even asked anybody what shaders are they of course have an impact, and anti aliasing 2x dont renders 4 k or whatever it just runs twice an filter over every frame render, reflections of course matter only if you look into water, the postitions you have standed and took a screenshot were not reflecting(it was specularity try same with shading quality and check if the glosiness changes etc) PLS JUST GOOGLE if you dont find any differences god ...

id say the anti aliasing recommendation of yours is quite controversial. i dont know at which resolution you play, but at 1080p, even putting all scales at 100%, my image has still a slight blurriness to it, which makes it harder to make out opponents with any 1x scope. the sawtooth pattern is indeed annoying but but for me personally its not really a hindrance like this weird veil T-AA brings.

there is less ghosting effect on higher TAA settings especially on meshy objects and textures with alpha channels (fence, trees etc) you can clearly spot it while moving around. And while TAAx4 is more blurry while static, you can compensate it with cfg setting of TAAsharpness higher than 0.5, which is highest you can get via in game slider. But you should also remember that even if you get your 144fps on 4x 25% res scale, due to more runs for an effect to take a place it takes more time to render the final picture and thus you have some additional lag on input devices. You are also wrong on Shading quality as you have tesselated surfaces turned on on the highest setting which drastically deteriorate the performance ATM (said in dev. notes they're working on optimising it) but also brings in much more detail in the picture, on medium you can see some subsurface scattering on OP's skin and etc occasionally.

@@ramdemesa4987 Yea dude without SSD I'm playing on the lowest settings for everything (if there's an option for none, like no anti-aliasing, then I'm playing on none). FPS average comes out to be 15-19 which is just dismal and, as Rogue-9 pointed out in the video, I sometimes can't see people who are holding angles because I literally have a hard time seeing them because of my graphics settings. Sure my loading times are fast now but...The struggle is not worth it.

Keep reflection quality at max. In long glossy hallways this allows you to see the refection of enemies. Its unnoticeable at medium and close ranges.

At minimum, you should use medium texture setting because when you go low, operators far away can be a bit tricky to distinguish (ex calling out operators in cameras)

Sanjarih Jamshed competitive settings are basically what givrs you the highest fps whule maintaining great visibility. You could take a peek at his settings. It pretty much comes to high textures, medium or higher shadlws, lod on the maximum you can, and else off/very low and AA is preference but mostly you want off and not TAA

Reflection quality changes reflection of the extremely reflective surfaces on the ground like puddles, sewer covers, some floors on Tower map etc. If you set it to low they all show static reflections and it looks pretty bad (Look outside of the Bank map) If you set it to medium it shows dynamic map reflections at half resolution and high setting makes it full res.

Ah man, I love all your content, good job as always! But I feel there's a couple of flaws here... I hoped you would have come with actual numbers of performance impact per setting extremety. You could do a custom run-around on a map, or use the built-in benchmark. And then done some more side by side comparisons of most settings. Because when you said that Shading quality had no visual impact for you, I would like to see at what stuff you were looking to compare. Thing is, there absolutely is a big visual eye-candy going between both low, medium and high in regards to Shading quality. You see it in the shadow depth of corners and the shadow cast from objects, you will get (at least it was before) a parallax effect on certain textures, such as tiled floors, and you will have a *bit* prettier characters, as the subsurface scattering takes on effect. The effects in general are subtle, no doubt, but they are *there* if you know where to look. Just my thoughts on this, otherwise it's nice to see a simple, yet thorough explenation on all this, suiting for most people! :)

going over your monitor refresh rate is definetely helpful because you get more frames to be displayed which means your monitor can display the frame that is more accurate to the actual scene youre in. Thats why pro players in CS:GO play at 400 FPS despite there are no monitors that actually support that refresh rate. A rule of thumb is the more FPS you have the better even if your monitor cannot display all of them.

It might also be worth mentioning that most monitors can be overclocked to a higher refresh rate, which seems to be pretty underhyped. easy thing you can do : play on lowest setting,record,set your video to 4k 60 fps and then upload it to youtube when you watching just pretend you play the game again this work for me and very enjoyable but it will use your storage

Would it be possible for you to test if the game compresses textures on the fly using the CPU? I know of other games which do this when using sub-ultra textures, and it usually results in extra load on the CPU while easing the load on the GPU as well as reducing the size of the install folder (compared to simply having several different sets of textures which are used when the corresponding setting is chosen). I have anecdotal evidence suggesting that Siege does in fact make use of this technique, and considering that Siege is often CPU bound, thought it might be worth further investigation.

If the game works in the way that I described, then yes. I know some people have had success when trying it, but not enough to say for sure. It's certainly worth a shot though.

I did testing on my recent rig. It's not CPU intensive. I averaged a 98-99% use on my graphics card while my CPU stayed in the low 60-70%. I confirmed that neither of my parts bottlenecked each other, and if you're referring to the pagefile... maybe. It could work.

I have a cpu bottleneck, and settings like shading quality and lod quality actually murder my framerate, since these settings are heavy on the cpu. You won't notice much performance impact if you have a good cpu.

R3 1200 @ 3.9ghz with 1060 3gb. cpu is always at 100% and gpu at 70-95%

I have had amd+nvidia for past 3 year, 3 different cpus and 2 gpus and haven't had any problems because of that. Amd's IPC is just too bad to take the full advantage of nvidias tech

Same here...i5 7300HQ and GTX1050...and my CPU is always at 100% while GPU at 70-80%. Can you tell me what other settings affect people like us with CPU bottleneck? All the videos on Internet aren't helpful cuz they all talk about GPU performance with the settings. But that's not the case with people like me with CPU bottleneck where I'm confused as fuck what settings to turn up to get most of my GPU but also don't impact the CPU much. :/

My brother has the best settings. Do you know why? On his computer, bodies are glithing out straight lines (They are often glitching through the walls). With that information you can know excacly where the enemy is. I know it's kinda cheating but he cannot delete it. It is something wrong with his computer or something gone wrong when he was uplaoading the game.

Anti aliasing is basically a blur to remove the jagged edges. Having it off technically allows you to see pixel peekers more. If you or a opponent is holding a really tight angle it might just blur them out. (FXAA does this a lot, don´t use that, never) (ever) (I really mean it, don´t use it)

How tight the angle is if anti aliasing is deciding factor if you see him or not? Like for real? 1-2 pixel? Like give it a break. Its not going to help you at all. Its just simply do you like jagged edges or not. Its a preference and its ok either way. But the reason for being off is that that you can see someone peeking before is just funny and dumb...

Just so you know having a frame rate that is higher than your monitor’s actual refresh rate is beneficial. Since despite the fact that your monitor will not show the extra frames, it will be able to show you a more up to date frame as it has more frames to choose from. Realistically most of the time you would not notice a different however in certain scenarios a more up to date frame being shown can be beneficial. (p.s. there are loads of videos on RU-vid that explain this better)

great vid but u have wrong information about TAA and FXAA. There is no way FXAA is blurrier and those settings must be tested out while in action, not while standing still.

Great video, and great explanations for each setting. However, you were using a GTX 1080 which is a pretty powerful card, and can explain why you didn’t see much of a performance increase in some settings. Frankly, I want to call your testing method flawed since your sample size is so small. However, this was a super informative video. Thanks for the work you put in.

@@blackwood4734 Nah he has a point, he is very probably CPU bound on his 1080ti, which is why he probably won't see a huge difference in performance while turning GPU intensive settings up and down.

He's incorrect about taa vs fxaa, for gaming fxaa is better than taa, because fxaa is much faster form of aa, but taa is known for being very slow and blurry.

That is true, I got confused too with him saying that TAA is the way to go. If you don't trust that, try putting TAA on and run while looking at windows or further away places and you will see that insane amount of blur. FXAA or OFF in my opinion are the best choices :)

Yeah, me, I run at high texture quality and T-AA 65% (Sharpness 100%), the other settings are pretty irrelevant for perfomance, and inside of the building, I get 115-144 FPS most of the time It can drop to 85 FPS outside though
