Just to clarify, the term "fights" has changed over the decades for basketball. Some players have been in fist fights back in the early era days of the NBA, but due to stricter rules, bans and fines in recent times the severity and occurrence of these fist fights have drastically decreased. This "fights" are simply the peak altercations for this player throughout his career.

It is a great way for teams to police each other and to release pent up energy, frustration, and aggression, which ultimately keeps everyone safer. The rules are; You fight only if you want to. Fighting is done only with fists. The moment one player falls down, the fight has to be stopped, and the refs simply jump on top of them.
