I agree that skill does play a huge part but also taking into consideration how well he can use different jets. Might be better with one jet than the other.
Impatience in the rate fight cost him twice. As you've shown many times, when you're winning in the rate fight just hold off, don't cash everything in right away.
There's a saying in photography: It's not about the camera; it's about the person behind it. Well... It's not about the aircraft; it's about the person flying it! Nice job as always, GS.
well, actually it is a lot more about the aircraft than you think, just like the camera on the phones these days, with several lenses and automatic post processing. Pilots don't fly the planes anymore, pilots just tell the plane their intentions.
Sometimes people think pulling the whole way back on the stick is the best decision.. they never learn, when they stall out in front of my guns! (Full disclosure : I fly the Dora 9)
One thing missing from these extended duels is the ability of the pilot to sustain high-g maneuvers over time. If you're turning and burning for 20 or 30 seconds, what do you have left physically at the end? Flight sims can replicate grey-out and blackout but not the endurance factor of a human body in a fight such as these.
@@ser43_OLDC Any real world fighter usage is usually a tradeoff between how much ass can it kick once in the sky and how hard it is to get it to the sky to do the ass-kicking.
Interesting result, skill and patience wins about every time. I'm sure I am not the only one who would like to see the Gripen and the Rafale have a bit of a throw down.
@Growling Sidewinder Would love to see you do matches where you swap planes after. It would show that it's not just the simulated aircraft but also the pilot that makes the difference.
Nice situational awareness! The Gripen pilot made several unnecessary turn reversals right into your pipper. Sometimes it seemed he just aborted rate fights he was winning.
@@myusername3689 yeah but it's still a bit worse than the Mirage in the 1 circle. That's probably one of the thing TVC helps with the most on the modern Flankers.
Hey, how often does fuel become a problem in DCS? As in, the fuel you took, wasn't enough.. and are there ways to deal with this other than using afterburner less, trying to conserve fuel? Like options for Ariel refueling etc.. in DCS
@GrowlingSidewinder Dude another great vid and great manoeuvres! Little tip: against smaller size jets like the Gripen, when you are in one circle gunfight with a similar delta platform like Mirage 2K, perhaps a little bit of altitude relative to the bandit will give you much better attitude during deck transition, so much so that you’ll invariably gain a firing solution right at the cusp or onset of the transition thanks to the fantastic AoA that the Mirage can pull. But I am sure you already know that. BTW, how can I order your Hoodies from India bro??
Good flying. Two nice planes. The Mirage is like a somewhat younger manifestation of the Swedish Draken, though not related. And the Gripen a development of the Viggen.
@@hel1nas They just did. 3-5 days ago. And I didn’t say they weren’t using Mirages (6 months ago). I clarified which variant. I’m saying they were using the 2000-5 and the 2000 EGM/BGM vars.
@@ATGG I was referring to 2000EG (Hellenic Variant of C )which are quite similar to 2000C. The 2000-5 will not removed from service. It was part of the agreement for 2000s to be given to FR but not six months ago.

got the Mirage today and as a newb this thing whips around so easily and I love it... but the gun reticle is so counterintuitive I have no Idea how to aim the thing correctly
That first kill was absolutely beautiful. I actually yelled out when you landed that shot. May have to try out the Mirage next Also we really need to see some bf109 play in these clouds
So.... does the Gripen out rate the Viper, or does boil down to your experience winning the rate fight over the Viper? Your past videos boasts highly on how great the Viper is at rate fighting.
This may be a stupid question, but after watching so many videos of people flying in DCS, why does every single fight start with a high altitude merge and end up on the deck in a rate fight? Is that how it would work out in real life or is that just the way virtual fighting works out?
this is due to dumping the nose to gain energy as the fight goes on, you're constantly using gravity to help you gain energy and youre converting that energy to nose position trying to get the kill, over time dogfights will drag down, unless 1 bandit is actively working to keep it high altitude due to some advantage they may have at the higher altitudes.
Question: What had the better thrust:weight? Few times there I would have turned and burned for energy, assuming equal or greater thrust. Those canards gonna eat you in thick air.
I wonder if the result would be the same if the pilot of the gripen was as good as you... i swear i saw a couple of moments where you would've died if the JAS driver was more patient
This was a great match up - but same skill in both jets - the Gripen is taking it. BVR no question, Gripen is going to jam the Mirage and eat him alive.
@@lat78610 That's if the Mirage's radar can see through the Gripen's E/W. The little that I know about it would lead me to believe that it would remove the Fox 3 option and put the Mirage into a tough spot. Would like to see two equally competent pilots joust with their respective jets. You could put GS in either and it would be hard to match against him.
I wonder how accurate these aircraft are. I'm sure the Mirage is probably pretty close to reality but the Gripen, Rafale, F-22 mods don't have the luxury of decades of leaked specifications.
Shooting copious hot projectile into another's rear end (or face) against their will, pretty much means there should be 'p' in rate rather than a 't' don't you think?
