Commenting late! Getting a G9 tomorrow. I do have to say the Griot's fast correcting cream is insanely awesome! One step process is great for most jobs and saves lots of time! That stuff made me a customer for life. I corrected the paint on my black Challenger with it and it came out perfect and that was my first time trying correction. Time to upgrade to a great DA, thanks for this video!
Been using mine for the last 3 vehicles I’ve done and I am impressed with its ease of use and I don’t get fatigued while using it... gonna use it later for another truck! I only use Griots products because of you!
Jeremy Smith Glad to heat you are happy with it after putting it to the test on a few vehicles. I just kinda played around with it but love it so far. That’s awesome man Griots makes outstanding products!
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing hey Brian.. just got my G9 literally 5 days ago. Glad to see this review As I Have not used the polisher yet. When I first put the polisher on I thought it was too much vibration, but have not yet applied it to a panel. Good video man.
Great job FAB! That’s why we all love your videos. Your depth of describing the product, or machine in this case, is very thoughtful and insightful. You do such a great job brother! Congrats on the new polisher! The swirls are running from ya!!
I have been waiting for FABs thoughts!!! Hahaha I know you went into geek out mode when you saw this on your porch 😂😬 great Video man! I absolutely LOVE the G9. That front grip is fantastic. Like you said coming from an older harbor freight Chicago electric this thing is smooth as a babies bottom! 🤣 can't wait for you to get some hours in on it and let us know what ya think. Take care brother!!
PapaSmurf918 Man I was so excited when I saw it on the porch! It was better then Santa Clause on Christmas morning. 😂 The front grip is awesome and extremely comfortable. I want to use it on a full detail but can’t for a while unfortunately! Thanks brother
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing Haha Christmas came early for you man!! And hey, life sometimes happens man. Cars aren't going anywhere brother!! You will have time to play soon 👍👍👍
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing LOL try the all new Griots " itch cream " for those who haven't detailed in at least 3 weeks 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I need some too man!! But I'll be doing a full paint correction on my buddies GMC Diesel tomorrow. The same one I posted the test on with your favorite 49er outfit 😂😂
PapaSmurf918 You mean Griot’s anti-itch cream! 😂 Oh man you will need more then a day on a big truck depending on how bad the paint is! Man you need to move out here and root for a real man’s team! 🤣 😂 😆 😝
Thanks for your review I just ordered one but have not received it yet. Appreciate the video and you like many others have very positive things to say about Griot's and that helped sway my decision.
Used mine I got when I saw you at Griots last weekend- definitely liking mine also- powerful but smooth. Like the trigger switch much better than the old one.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing Posted this on Papa Smurfs channel too. Well....... Threw a pad on it, plugged cord. Guess what? It works. Ha Seriously though I like it already only working 2 hours with it so far. I figured I'd spend a few minutes with it to test it and go back to my Flex being I'm doing a paint Correction on a thrashed F-250. After working on the hood with the G9 I decided I'll use it for the entire job first complete test. Thoughts from a full time detailer. Balanced I head FAB the magnificent say how well balanced it was and he was spot on. Comfort Love the design of the G9 meaning no matter where you grab it while working with it it works, important for me because it's nothing for me to put in 12 hour days and need fresh grips as I go along. Powerful I'm running speed 4 1/2 and this darn thing will not bog down on me. Plenty of power even for the seasoned detailers who do it for a living like me. Also has a ton of torque, plenty. Heat issues None so far, the built in fan to keep the pad cool works very well. Griots are geniuses. I felt a little tiny of warmth around the housing but not an issue. Cord is not like most plastic type cords. It's made of a good quality rubber which will help a lot keeping it in its form. Vibration I tried it on speed 6 which I never run and felt some which is normal for a 1000 watt high torque machine. Nothing to talk about under speed 5 Over all experience It can be beat for around 160.00. Question is will it totally replace my Flex 3401? No because in my opinion the Flex is a workhorse and a money maker but I'll have my hands around the G9 often.
GG does great products with a ton of time to get it correct for the customer. This new G9 is a big step ahead for entry level units and I want ONE too!
Thanks for taking the time to do this review! I've been wanting to get a DA polisher and now I found the right one for a beginner. Now get to packing! I recently moved myself (to another state) so I know what your going through!
dj 91 You are welcome! You can’t go wrong with this one it’s a great machine. Yeah moving sucks and I am hoping this is the last time. I couldn’t imagine moving to another state we are moving 6 miles away.
Nice side by side review. I ordered my G9 w/trade in last week after watching several reviews. Happy to see you liked it too. My old G6 works fine but I would only do 1/2 a car a day as it would tire me out, and I only have 4 pads of each color. So I ordered more pads hoping I might be able to do a whole car in a day. And the buy back is a good deal. I spent $199, which included the new pads and a bottle of correcting cream, and got a $87 credit. And as you know $87 is easily spent on Griots products, which again I would have done at some point anyway. Hope the knee is healthy and good luck with the move. 👍✌️🇺🇸
B Stewart ExecutiveCarCare Thanks! You will be happy with their machine and should be able to knock a car out no problem. Yes the money goes quickly when buying products. Let me know what you think after trying it!
I bought one of the new Rainbow vacuums and one of the most impressive features of the unit is the power cord. Yeah, I know it's not something people usually point out, but the cord isn't "usual". Its flexibility is almost like a chain. It's not stiff, but it's rigid and slinks. I thought this is what power tools and especially the orbital polishers should have. The stiff cords don't stay on my shoulders for very long...they just slide off. I have to hang it over my neck which isn't ideal because I want the cable behind me out of the way. If the G9 doesn't have something similar (I know the G8 doesn't have it) hopefully Griot looks into it for a future model. Also, the trigger lock could be better. I thought maybe being a able to lock the trigger by just pulling it down all the until the lock clicks in and you release it the same way you do now. The G8's trigger lock is in a bit of an awkward place making it difficult to get to when you're trying to keep the pad on the paint.
The rubberized chord definitely stays on the shoulder better then the old plastic type. The trigger lock is something you just have to get used to but once you do it’s no big deal.
Great review, I’m considering either this not the TORQx. I’m a home, just for fun detailed who only works on family cars. I’d probably use the polisher 10-12 times per year, so I don’t need anything super fancy or expensive. I feel this is a good option.
Jay Smith Thank you! I think this would be a great option for you. The G8 is a great 3 inch polisher also. I just released a video on that last weekend.
It's a shame that Griot's Garage chose to go with a 6, instead of the 5" backing plate. I'm in the market for a new polisher and this will be a reason to go with ShineMaster.
Well looks like I’m pulling trigger and ordering mine today. Ordering from Autogeek they sent me a $25 off coupon as a welcome back that actually works for buying this so with adding GG 5” backing plate out the door tax 5” plate free shipping $151 delivered. Wish they gave you option to come with 5” or 6” backing plate seems like everyone switches to 5” so not sure why you get one with it. I actually emailed GG trying to get them to remove 6” and put in a 5” in box and they would not, they said I would have to purchase it separately guess I was just trying to be a cheap ass saving $20 lol. I will use my Porter Cable as my dedicated 3” once I receive this. I will have to buy the wall mount as this will also be a nice decoration in my garage when not in use. Good luck on your move it’s a big pain in the ass moving.
Nice video, makes my old Porter Cable look like a block of wood. Too bad I retired from detailing due to back surgery. I would like to see you try the pneumatic one, it’s not mentioned much anywhere and for me, I’d use it due to the extreme low weight-and just to do light correction and applying wax. And ONLY on my car.
First hey brother hope your resting that knee sir and dont strain your self to hard moving. Second, I have seen mixed reviews from different detailer's all an all good though. Third, I don't know if anyone has suggested it but why dont you try your g6 backing plate on the g9. May not be possible for some reason but you could just try it an see.
Michael Campbell The knee is doing better! The G6 backing plate will work but Griot’s said it may give vibration as it is not balanced for this machine. I bought the 5 inch backing plate last weekend for it.
Awesome review. Fair and thorough. I’m just a hobby DIY detailer. I already have 2 G6s and I’m resisting the temptation to buy the G9😇. The detailing brushes in the background caught my attention though. Would you share what brand are those?
Winxwen Muana Thank you! The G9 is a great machine and very smooth. I bought those brushes off Amazon. They are in my Amazon store there should be a link in the video description.
I have had two G9's and both of them vibrated way too much. I did not change the backing plate. Then I changed it to a 5" backing plate to check and the vibration got even worse. :(
ZoutlawSS Man you would love this machine! Compared to the Griot’s old 6 inch and Porter Cables this thing is so smooth and way more power. Not to mention it’s only $150 with a lifetime warranty.
Blackfire just sent me an email offering 25% off and some goodies if I ordered today...so I clicked on this G9 DA to add to cart for purchase. I clicked on check out and it said I don't have any items in the cart. I repeated this process 6 times with the same results. I then called the company from the ordering number at the top of the web page and got a recording that no one was there to take my calls ????????????? I hope someone else has better luck.
@fab Hello, Any updates on this polisher ? How has it held up ? Any things you dislike with it ? Im in the market for a new polisher and its either this one or another im looking at. Thank you !
Chris Hayes Sometimes though old school is still really good and dependable. Atleast you can maintenance it if need be vs sending it in and not having it. Thanks and thanks for watching
Kinda thought same thing I’ve been in RC for years and everything now is brushless with tons more power and speed. The only modern RC’s running brushed motors is the 4x4 crawlers.
FAB stands for Feature,Advantage and Benefit of watching your videos. Convert your G6 to a 3 inch as I did because my G9 does not convert to a 3 inch pad. I snapped on the G9 as soon as Apex did the tear down review and switched to 5 inch pad and optional 25 ft, cord. I too am like Kevin a simple man of 74 years and passionate about detailing. Just finished a 1 step on my own 2006 Xterra with G9 and would like to send you the images if possible.
Alfred Petersen Awesome ! That’s one thing it could stand for! It is a great machine and very user friendly. I would love to see the photos. Do you have Facebook or Instagram? If you do just look up my channel name. If not I can give you my email.
Stéphane Lacombe It’s a Astro Pneumatic 50SL Color Match light. I have it in my Amazon store I think it’s around $60. Well worth the money! There is a link to my store in the video description.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing Ok..........just checked and this is made in China. I have decided to never buy a product made in China ever again due to their responsibility regarding Covid-19 so I won't buy it. Can you at least just tell me the color temperature of it in kelvins if you have that info of course please?
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing OK thanks............just one more question..............why do you prefer to use the 5" backing plate/pad setup instead of the 6"??
Once you get a little more time with the machine, would love to know your opinion on this vs Adam's swirl killer. I know they're different throws but they're relatively in the same price range and I've been looking into getting a new polisher myself.
japspec96 I don’t own the swirl killer so I can’t compare it to that. It is a huge upgrade though from the old Griot’s G6 or the porter cable a lot of people use.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing I could've sworn you had the swirl killer. My mistake. I have the PC, which is good but, there are some things I'm just not a fan of.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing oh ok. Yeah I had planned on getting that one as a dedicated 3 inch polisher for tighter/smaller areas. I've used the PC to detail one car from start to finish (compounding, polishing, sealing, and waxing) and by the end of it my arms were just sore from the weight and the vibrations of the machine. Add the fact that it is pretty loud, very little to speak for user experience. Doesnt help that by the end of it there are still some scratches on my car that I couldn't get it out. Not sure if you check your IG messages but I sent you a message before asking for some advice on some of the scratches I have. Love the videos you put out and hope I can one day put out the quality work you do!
I am really surprise that you consider the G9 does not vibrate that much ! i bought it 2 weeks ago and for me this polisher vibrate a lot !!! If the G6 vibrate more than the G9 that mean the G6 is simply terrible to use.
Hayssam El-Safah It was extremely smooth. We’re you using Griot’s pads with it? Just curious because when I use another companies pads on my G21 it vibrates but the BOSS pads don’t vibrate.
The G9 came with the 6 inches pad and I bought the 5 inches pad from Griot !! What is really strange when I put the 5 inches the vibrations was little bit more comparing to the 6 inches pad!!
