You know Laura and travis are a couple when her jaw drops at the Formorian's decision to not only guzzle the whole thing...but ALSO crush it like weak glass in its hand. Cause she KNEW how Grog/Travis would respond
*"Should you choose to,* you manage to resist the urge to fly into a rage..." I love that Travis had to *decide* to go apeshit, and that it worked out so well.
@@KazLordOfLightWarriors this. Out of all the glorious moments of this small bit of life, Matt’s *face* when that nat 20 came out was *amazing*. He rolled and was like, yeah, Giant’s got this, and then: boom!
I think it's for this exact reason i love travis as a roleplayer? He's very willing to do things that's against the best interests of the team but totally in character for Grog the Barbarian.
+wowguy1243 I love how Matt drinks the cask of ale and looks to Travis like: "whatcha gonna do?" Trying to get a reaction from him (look at his eyebrows). It's awesome
As a DM that look is a look of DM.exe has crashed and my brain needs to reboot as that is not what was planned and I need to think fast of what to do next
That moment when Travis said he got a nat20, you could see all of the emotion in Matt's face drain away into what I can only describe as "Oh shit... I fucked up..."
Technically he's got a strength of 17 but has the gauntlets of ogre strength, craven edge, and then the titanstone gauntlets so it's never practically 17
Matt and Travis alone make this awesome. Matt looks so happy with what he is doing and is all but dancing when Grog tries to rage. The nat 20 comes up and while everyone is slack-jawed, Matt is just flat out stunned as the smirk is just wiped off his face and replaced with "oh shit......"
NeverlandTheatre and then it's just a domino effect everyone then either face palm or rests their heads in their hands or just lays their head on the table
I remember a similar situation in the Feywild when they tried to use Vex’s broom to sneak up on the hag or whatever was in that house, and Matt made it seem like it might be Travis’s fault for the broom losing its flight enchantment. Same smile, but it was Laura that wanted to rage that time.
i swear to god, i can just see the moment when their heads impacted, the cacophonous boom as the headbutt sends a massive shockwave that blasts back the surrounding environment like a massive explosion. SOMEONE GET ON ANIMATING THIS SCENE!
Four out of five of the five stages of grief in an instant Denial about hitting him Anger causing him to run and headbutt him Bargaining by saying "You owe me a cask of Ale" Depression when he says that he goes straight to grieving
I just started playing DnD a few months ago. I loved listening to the different story channels on youtub about other people's experiences with the game, but I never got around to trying it out for myself. I had always heard the words "it's what my character would do" in a negative light to justify shitty actions and it was kind of holding me back in really immersing with my first character...until I saw this clip. In an instant, this clip made me realize that doing what your character would do can be amazing - and I'm a lot more confident with my play and the other players (most of which are new) are starting to do the same thing as they become more familiar who their characters are. It's been a lot of fun and I wish I would have gotten into the hobby sooner, but better late than never!
Critical Role has had a TON of amazing moments like this, but being as this was in one of the earliest episodes, there's a good chance that this is my favorite. This scene was pretty much how I learned that DnD was capable of producing hilarious and downright goosebump-giving moments, and thats what really got me hooked on the game (Though if were being honest, the Kevdak plunge attack has no rivals)
Can imagine these guys playing Cards Against Humanity or Mario Kart, I think either Travis or Matthew would have the worst gamer rage, but I think Laura would rage as well.
Matt's face during the whole thing. He's just confidently smirking and waiting for some form of a fuck up from Grog. But then the dreaded words of "Natural 20" happen, he loses his bravado, looks panicked and has to figure out a new plan on how to keep the Fomorian (Or whatever it is called, idk, I need to watch the series.) alive through Grog's rage.
Love that Matt had a lot of fun trying to get a reaction from Travis... right up until that natural 20 occurred, that was the moment he was absolutely stunned into shock. He even called for that to be confirmed by someone, something that I haven't seen before that yet. And like, Ashley had looked over before he asked, you'd think she would have said something.
