GTA 3 vs GTA IV - city comparison 

People cried when GTA IV went back to its GTA III roots, but that's what made it so great. Vice City and San Andreas were good, but they felt like holidays, as does GTA V (still a good game). Crime should be gritty, unforgiving and at times depressing. Hopefully GTA IV isn't the last serious game of the series.

Rockstar did a great job by adding Grand Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, the train stations/ railroads, the taxis, tall buildings, time square, and the statue of Liberty. I haven't visited New York yet, just San Fran and Las Vegas but when I do, it'll be super nostalgic to grand theft auto games.

Crazy to think games like gta 3, gta vice city, and gta san andreas are around 7, 5, and 4 years difference to gta 4 release date, but they managed to improve graphics, physics, and huge amount of realistic details with that amount of time.. While it's true red dead redemption 2 looks so amazing in every aspects and better looking than gta 5 since they have 5 years different release time, but this one is just way ahead surely. 2000s is truly a peak of video game evolution imo..

My bet is GTA 6 will take place in vice city.

GTA 3 literally one of the best games I've ever played! The feel, the charm, the mystery and everything about it! Left a mark on me for life I have to say ha!

Has anyone else realized that GTA 4's story is basically just a fully fleshed-out GTA 3? Here me out: -A low-level criminal that's new to the city is betrayed ( Claude with Catalina & Niko with Dmitri) -He must flee from his original hideout in the starting island (GTA3's mafia turns on you & GTA4's Russian Mafia turns on you) -Player kills the boss of the mafia he used to work with (GTA3's Salvatore & GTA4's Mikhail) -Player starts working with a family of criminals (GTA 3 it's Asuka and Kenji with the Yakuza, GTA 4 is the McRearys) -Player works with a crooked cop who has them silence witnesses (GTA3's Ray Machowski & GTA4's Francis McReary. Both are also somehow related to the 'family' criminal organizations the player works for) -Player incites a war between two gangs (GTA 3 it's Cartel and Yakuza, GTA 4 it's Ancelottis and Albanians) -Player must bust a police convoy to help someone escape (GTA 3's Orinetal Gentlemen, who is busted out in the intro and rescued later by the player & GTA4's Adrian, who Niko later kills.) -Player is forced to do a deal with the person who betrayed them (GTA3, the player has no choice but kills Catalina, GTA 4 is up to the player between Pegorino and Dmitri. The canon ending is that Niko kills Dmitri) There's tons of other little things like how there's TW@ cafes in both games, the Mafia Sentinel is in both games (although GTA 4's isn't called that, but looks exactly like it) and the half sunken ship in Alderney's Acter Industrial Park is clearly a nod to the Cartel cargo ship Claude sunk in the mission Bomb Da Base II. There's other little nods all throughout GTA 4 that remind players of 3.

I remember back in 2002 when I thought GTA 3 had the most realistic graphics. Those were the days. Now the people look odd as does the world in it.

I think every GTA game is awesome in it's own way. Sometimes I want to play Vice City, sometimes San Andreas, sometimes GTA IV... yeah even sometimes VC and LC Stories.

Im not hating but it should have been cooler if he would have put on claudies clothes in gta 4

I've never played GTA IV (though I do intend to eventually), and those graphics look beautiful. Really nice indeed. But GTA III is where it's at for me if I were to compare the two aesthetics. Liberty City was grimy, gritty and grey, often with an overcast fog; perfectly reflecting the industry, corruption & poverty that plagued the streets. But it had a certain flare to it, with the hazy lights of the night-life, looming towers & the construction throughout; almost like it was trying to build itself up into being the next big thing to New York, but not quite reaching it. The 'tone' of the streets never quite feels safe - there are a lot of lonely locations, and there are numerous times when you can hear echoes. To me, GTA III's Liberty City is more than just nostalgia - it's the perfect visual metaphor of the crime life; full of risk, superfluousness, dirt & darkness; but with dulled hints of a better future. Btw, awesome vid. You got some great shots in there. :)

gta 3 has kinda same characters as gta 4 but in reverse . What i mean by that is in gta 3 you strat working with the mafia ,where in gta 4 thats kinda to the end of game . And Salvatore Leone suppose to be Jimmy Pegorino, Luigi ,suppose to be Phill the guy with strip clubs in gta4, Tony Cipriany supoose to be Ray Boccino because he owns an italian restaurant, And last guy Joey suppose to be Jimmy Pegorinos bodygauard Antony (jimmy claims he became his son after his actual son suicided), The rest of them i don't know i just started the game again and this thigns came into my attencion after playing gta 4

Thank you for this video. Ever since gta 5 came out, I’ve been trying to find similar areas that is the same location but different names in gta San Andreas. Now it’s nice to see similar locations but different names from gta 4 and gta 3.

I think GTA 4 map is GTA 3 map reversed. Alderney is Portland, Algonquin is Staunton Island and Dukes is Shoreside vale. It’s cool how they did that

Good comparison: I've been playing both games very recently and was wondering about the two maps since if I recall it's supposed to both be Liberty City. GTA IV has much better graphics and cinematics and such. But somehow 3 always just looks......more charming and has a certain cartoon like fun about it

For real these comments are the most retarded things I've ever read. I wouldn't say one game is better than the other because they are both exceptional games for their respective generations. GTA4 is probably the most realistic open world ever created in a game to date given the complexity of the physics based animations (even trumps GTA5 in this regard). GTA3 was easily the best open world game released by 2001 and set the most ambitious standards for the industry since Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64. Yes they surpassed it with GTA SA and Vice City (Vice City feels smaller than GTA3 honestly) but GTA3 set the bar for other open world games.

I wonder if the some of the places that are in gta 3, are also in gta 4...

The mansion of the leone is in the location of the sultan rs after the death of the boss and the fall of this mafia.

Dudes, you've gotta admit. Gta 3 was a good game and has a special place in our heart, but Gta 4 is just much better, Graphics, story, chracters, talkable protaganist with amazing accent, BOWLING, and the DLCS. Dudes the ballad of gay tony was amazing! Parachutes, the buzzard, auto shotgun with exploding shells. And the lost and damned never made me felt so much as a badass biker than any other game. Biker loyalty, betrayal, regrett, and grittiness . Besides we can all agree that both 3 and 4 were the most realistic game in the series? Even if the story in 3 was rushed and unrealistic it still had a realistic dark gritty crime theme to it. So as gta 4. So lets just agree to disagree because I keep seeing comments hating on 4. Both games are pure gold and pure fun. Fuck the leones.

Also Little Italy (Saint Marks in GTA III), Bank of Liberty, the Museum, and the Rotterdam Tower (the building in which you take Donald Love's mission in GTA LCS)

the first time i jumped to gta 4, i didn't recognize liberty city at all. It is bigger, different and more realistic then the previous LC. damn i really appreciate what rockstar did here, even when the game took pace same map, they still added new things in there.

this brings back when i was like 4 years old when my bro and his friend was playing this. back then i thought it was like the best game ever lol

better than GTA 5. I you played San Andreas to death, then went to grove street in 5 expecting nostalgia, you were so disappointed. The sizes and surrounding areas were completely different, CJ's house isn't even there, but worst of all... The ballas control the place. Yep, all what you did 20 something years earlier in San Andreas is now completely irrelevant and swept under the rug. There aren't even any grove street family gang members in the game, just Davis and Forum Drive. It's almost like they just forgot about San Andreas and just made a completely different map. They even got rid of the multiple islands and bridges, in favour of just one. You can't tell me that in only 20 something years the country has gone through that much change. And in GTA 5 I think there was a tsunami in Los Santos before the game started, so the islands would have been even more divided! And don't even go there with "they are in different universes" because how do ballas exist? How is Denise in the game? They should have made it more faithful to the original rather than making an entirely different map and adding like 4 locations in from San Andreas.
