It's always "ur pretty" and never "you would be worshipped in medieval times, you would be painted in the Renaissance era, you would be considered a masterpiece in the 18th century, you would be adored in the Victorian era."
I'm going to make a point of complimenting people like this now. Hearing those words from someone would make my whole day, probably my whole year. Peak complimenting.
Hey, can someone not overwhelmed by 5,000 submissions revamp Karolina's image of her Coca-Cola ad and make it look like she's a time traveler. I would do it but I literally have less PS skills than Karolina.
Forget "entertaining." This video was a heartfelt and beautiful example of showing unbiased love to others and boosting their self-esteem. It made me stop and pause and look at each face more closely and see them how you were seeing them with a fresh set of eyes. That's the real magic here.
Oh my goodness, Queen KZ knows how to recognize beauty and be kind and uplifting to humans. (I don't say "fellow humans," because as we know, Karolina is an immortal being.)
She reminds me of Bernadette Banner's sister. She made that gorgeous white dress for her and then had her pose before an actual portrait in a museum, to show the extreme likeness. It's been a while, so my memory might deceive me....but I could swear, this girl looks like her.
I’m the joyful 1670s portrait guy! It’s such an honor to have been chosen. After my face popped up, my surprise and delight kept me smiling and quietly chuckling for hours. I’m a huge fan of your videos (and incidentally, also really love Poland and can’t wait until corona is over so I can visit again!). Dziękuję bardzo, Karolina 🇵🇱
Jessica speaking: After you said 5,000 photos and I started see the faces featured, I didn't think I'd make it. My heart almost stopped! Thank you! You're really kind and you make me want to 30s and 40s style. I have done 20s makeup for parties with faux thin eyebrows and it does work. I'll try replying with a link. Hopefully YT won't remove it.
This really is one of the nicest corners of the Internet. Such niceness. So wow. Much love for each other. Keep it up and look for the similarities that bind us together rather than the differences that divide us!
Oh my gosh, that’s me and my bunny Annie in 13th century wimples! Thank you for our beautiful medieval makeover. I’m so humbled and grateful to have been featured. I’m obsessed with Annie’s wimple! 😂
I came to terms you wouldn’t use my picture and I literally cried when you used it. I love you so much and this is one of my favorite series that you do
Time out, can we talk about how Madame Meme is rocking her own twist on a historical style here: 90’s era Dwayne Johnson. ✅ black turtleneck ✅ fab gold chain (JEALOUS) ⛔️ waist bag (missing)
Oh god I did not expect my damn toilet selfie to be in this😳I am equally honored and embarassed. Also why was everyone so beautiful. Wow. Can’t imagine how many more beautiful faces were sent in.
When my turn was up at 8:55, I had to pause the video and take a moment to compose myself. First time I ever participated in any form of "send in your picture." But of course Karolina did a great job and I promise I'm not a vampire. (ha ha) 😊
honestly same :3 although I'm still a bit curious if she does decide to do sometime another of these xD I feel like I don't have a historical face at all and I'm still a bit curious but damn meme mom had so many submissions for this
8:15 OH MY GOD IM IN HERE!!! im so flattered you chose me and i do tend to go for the 20s eyeshadow shape!!! i love the caligari vibes thank you omg 😭😭😭🖤🖤🖤
YOOOOO I'm Jackie. After saying you had so many submissions, I thought there was no way I'd make it in. I'm honestly still in shock. Thank you for all of the love!!!
Please, please make this a series! As it has a lot of originality, plus you can never run out of ideas, for what to do with it! Because there are endless pictures, endless ideas for the historical interpretations. (BTW hope my picture gets put in the next video! Whenever that may be!) Edit: Them likes tho!
Yes. I would like to sign this petition. Hear Us, O Mighty Meme Mother! Please give unto us a series of historical photoshopping on currently-living humans! Our gratitude shall be eternal and our likes/subscriptions shall number the stars!
A few of the people featured had such big gorgeous eyes I was taken aback. Like excuse you? How dare you entrance me with your gaze? But seriously Karolina was not kidding about some of these already looking like paintings
I am such a huge fan and I am so happy you used my picture!!!!!!! The Coca Cola ad looks awesome and I am so touched by your kind words💞 Thank you Meme Mom!! ❤
A good 1/3 of these pictures, when photoshopped, made my jaw drop with how ACCURATE she was. Like, I knew Karolina was good at this but DAMN, this is impressive. Also, I agree, all of these lovely humans are so beautiful 🥺
For people that wear veils and want to start on historical costuming: for most of history people wore head coverings, and for the majority of this "most of history" they wore veils. Maybe you are only looking at a certain country's fashion at the time you're interested and you're only seeing hats and caps, try and look at other countries and you'll *absolutely* see lots of veils. For example, I'm researching 18th century and most of what found first was about France and England, but when I started finding things about Spain I saw *soooooooooo many veils* all over the place, and since I'm trying to find more information about what people wore here in Brazil and I can't find much about Brazil or Portugal and I know that Portugal and Spain had very similar dress styles at the time, looking at what was going on in Spain is very useful for me, so I'm considering a veil or a gandaya (which is something I'm absolutely obsessed with since I discovered it) for my 18th century outfit.
OMG!!!! You’ve given me such a fantastic research project! Almost every historical video I watch, all I hear is…. And where is the veil? Where is the hair covering?….lol.
In Ukraine veils and scarf head coverings were a must and we had different fashion in different regions of the country, also classified by seasons and society status of the wearer. Some of them are very modest and cover all the parts hijab does.
I think a video done by Bernadette Banner had someone mention that Brazil adopted French fashion at some point. Just a nugget of info in case you haven't found that information already yet.
This is the most kind-hearted video I've ever seen, I love it!! Bc of modern plastic surgery, beauty standards have been narrowing and narrowing and its really nice to see face shapes you don't see in movies or viral insta or whatever get the attention they deserve!
Exactly!!! The majority of faces I see nowadays are on the internet, so it was amazingly refreshing to see such a diverse representation of uniqueness and beauty. Thank you, Karolina & all who participated, it was really enjoyable to watch.
Agreed! Unfortunately with the way selection/promotion algorithms work, many social media apps specifically narrow down the selection of faces, creators, ethnicities, types of appearance etc that they bring to viewers' attention? And of course this then reinforces the reign of the current "Instagram look" and makes many people feel like that's the only current beauty 😔 I really enjoy watching creators who help remind us that history and human variation are both way wider than we think...
It was so touching to hear that you looked at all the photos, it really shows how much you care for viewers 🥺 we love you meme mom thanks for a lovely video ❤️
loved it. it would also be amazing to see this in collaboration with creators specialized in other historical cultures, to make it more diverse than european fashion history!
European historic apparell is more than 'á la mode' clothing. You have many African and East Asian clans roaming Europe (as merchants, mercenaries, rulers, etc...) until 18 century, and if you take Cale peoples into consideration until XX century. European phenotypes are the most heterogeneous amongst all the 'continental DNA pools' because of that, which means Europeans are genetically more diverse (as in getting DNA from all the other continents) in larger extent than Asia and Africa in general, and America until XIX century. I'm bringing DNA into the conversation due to the 'group' factor that clothing had in identifying kin DNA in non technological societies, which is the topic. I just want to mention east and west Iberias, Albania, Norway, Romany or Turkey regional and historic clothings so you can see the diverseness of Europe historically.
@@escaramujo to be honest, on the DNA level, I think it WANTS to refresh/blend/introduce NEW DNA. I think it is part of surviving, anything gets too stagnant, someone is going to be attracted to the outlier ! I think that it's harder to study like that, but, think outcrossing is a factor. Life is fluid.
@@escaramujo I would also like to add that trade between the Old World region made it easier for culture to become fluid. East and West for example had a lot of fashion exchanges. Too many that it blurred the lines already. One of the finest examples of this is the silk fabric. Imagine if silk never arrived in Europe from China, we wouldn't see those gorgeous silk Robe a la Francaise, and other historical dresses from the renaissance that became icons of European high fashion. Another example of these fashion exchanges, albeit more specific, would be Manton de Manila, which is an important fashion piece in traditional Spanish and Latin American attires, and were larger versions of the Filipino shawl "pañuelo".
You were right - all your viewers are stunningly beautiful...and their historical selves are too! You did a much better job on the photoshop than you give yourself credit for.
Also, she used her "sister's tablet". Perhaps her sister could get roped into a "Part 2" ?! If not her sister, perhaps she has a viewer that is local to her that has those skills ?! (I am in the U.S.A. & have none!)
i'd genuinely commission a "what era am i" lmao. but really, after you mentioned it in a prev video i went looking myself and found a portrait from 1881 that looks honestly really similar to me, another from 1897, somehow both are from portugal. guess i was a portugese man in 1885 or something
Small existential crisis at 1:40 because all of these people have their own lives, struggles, etc. This is me on the daily! Humanity is fascinating and astounding; individual people constantly blow my mind!!
5,000 photos and yet part of me still thought "Hold on, there's still a chance I could be in this". Excellent video even if I didn't make the cut, hah!
This was so much fun! And I want to second what you said about welcoming hijabi to the costuming hobby. I think there's room (or they should be room) for people of all different backgrounds. I latched on to "Vintage style, not vintage values." early on. I also love following instagrams of people who cover non-European costuming so I can learn more about that.
I totally agree! And there are so many historical head coverings that I would love to see people adapting to their hijabs (like the wimple at the beginning with that gold circlet thing on the top would look beautiful)
Oh my God, thank you so much for the nice words and encouragement you gave to vail-wearing people, cause my hijabi self loves historical clothing and the support from someone like you means a lot 🥰🤗😊
I'm ecstatic! I really tried to choose a picture that didn't hinted at any specific era I have tried to recreate, but may be its time to work more on 17th century. Thank you so much!
Y'know, this might be a good topic for a subreddit or something. People helping each other figure out what eras suit them best. That way, meme mom won't be pressured to do all them and we can help each other figure out our eras!
I was having a bad day and this just totally made it so much better! I wasn’t sure if my picture would make it but it did and your kind words were SO lovely! Thank you for being you!
The lady that you didn't end up photoshopping 100% looks like the subject of a Jan van Eyck painting! She's gorgeous and would work so well in the 1430s!
The MOMENT you posted the original question, I immediately thought MAKE IT A SERIES. I knew you would have a ton of submissions and I want to see more!!
Yo, I was actually really touched by the outro for this video. I loved how enthusiastic and positive you were about all of the photos in the first place, but it was really nice to hear your feelings about the community that’s built itself around you and your content.
This was pure joy!!!!!! Wholesome content!!!!!! This is what the world needs. Look at this face, it's a fabtasic face, also great in this era. You are a vampire. Just my wee heart is so full ❤️
i was going to submit a selfie but i freaked out last second and didn’t send it in i regret it now HAHAHAH please do this again soon!!! ps jackie if you’re seeing this i love your folklore cardigan and i am so incredibly jealous of you
Such a fun idea! Maybe for part 2, choose 100 photos and sort them into 10 different eras without photo-shopping, and briefly explain the popular facial features/styles for each era. :)
This is a great idea! The photoshopping is awesome, but I think that format might make a great one-off video and could help those who didn't submit work out what era is best for them too. 🥰
"It seems like some of you know what historical era you want to look good in." ... *Casually tucks away photo of self I almost submitted with my 1905 house in the background*
And on a related note, French Bulldogs would be the "plucky heroine/hero" trope as they were well known to belong to "ladies of the evening", who walked their dogs along the Champs Ellyse to attract business ! 😉 (I own one but not in that business!)
I love the Jackie pic . All of these are really good to be honest . The 1920th vamp I love . Jose, is super cute to the renactment the hair on the chest is so hot. And Bret pulled it off.
The young lady with the blonde pulled back hair whom you didn’t do much to - she literally IS The Girl With the Pearl Earring ( sorry I missed her name, I had to run out suddenly lol)
I am sorry that your back hurt after helping us all find when we're from! I can't wait to (hopefully!!) see mine next time. Thank you for such a fun and unique video!
thank you for how INCREDIBLE these captions are, especially so immediately. I’m deaf and the accuracy and clarity of the captioning was so so wonderful
This!! This is the kind of heart warming and uplifting content that makes the world just that much better 💖 You’re doing amazing things with your platform Karolina ☺️
Nabia has the CUTEST FACE! I think she would be the youngest sister in a Jane Austin novel, definitely lots of laughing and getting into mostly harmless trouble.
Man, this is so well done! You kept apologizing for the art but it's clear to see that you really put a lot of concentration in the details and shading, and it's so nice to see that you really tried to make them look good. Like you didn't just make a block of color for the hair, you added layers of colored strands. Most people that do this kind of video just add a few colors in somewhat the same shape, or just show a picture next to them without even trying to photoshop. And you looked at EVERY photo??? That shows you really care! Most would just look at a couple and say, yup, that's enough for a video and call it there. Plus, I really appreciate the fact that you used gender neutral pronouns.
Mememom realizing that 5, 000 faces is so many faces and lives. Me agreeing....and then realizing how many MORE faces and lives her 1 million followers have 😮 Thanks so much for this video! I'm not in it, but I know being in this video is likely the highlight of someone's week/ year and it's lovely you did it. (Lowkey wouldn't be upset if it became a series eventually).
for someone who, i assume from what you said, doesn't do digital art regularly/ at all, these looked SO GOOD!! and goes to show how far using references can get you :] i loved you uplifting everyone's photos as well, just so nice and genuine
That was one hell of a compliment from Karolina. I clicked your profile to see if anything was going on content-wise, and I immediately see one of my favourite songs (YeYe - ゆらゆら). I think I have some playlists to listen to, can already see some quality stuff I know I like.
I totally would love a series...but yeah, as others have said, take your time! Yay for a bunny being in the first image, I love bunnies!! Loved this video.
Ever since I first learnt at school about the Fin de siècle, or I think it's called the secession in art history, I loved the style. The way people looked during that period, the hairstyles, the fashion. I have to say that there's something in my look also that resembles women from that era. It's so strange.
I am still smiling from the warm fuzzy feelings after watching this video. Thank you for the fun, charming, wholesome and heartwarming content. We are all brimming with joy after seeing this, so thank you for all your hard work! I could not wait for each next picture! Maybe consider making this a series?
