Sad facts are . As soon as they started with the gay storylines that is when the shows took a nose dive in ratings . That very thing is what killed off the soaps
Yeah, but, darn it do to the changing of the times, we lost our beloved Soaps! I faithfully watched As The World Turns and Guiding Light every day and, the fact the ending to either one and not fully finished it was like you wanted and needed one more day to get the full story, then, I wanted answers as to way it ended the way they did! 15:30
I wish the producers and writers of Days of Our Lives would watch these old soap operas and learn a thing or two from them they've somehow somewhere gone off track big time.
I remember this guiding light was one of the shows where people seem to marry families Reba married Billy HB Josh, but I love the show. I miss it a lot. Whoever has uploaded these thank you.
Beth Ehlers was such a great actress. I wish she would re suface somewhere. She seems to have disappeared from acting. I loved her and Phillip. I was so mad when Phillip cheated on that plane
She was on an episode of The Locher Room. He brings actors in on a zoom call and they all talk about whatever. She doesn't act anymore. She said she got her Master's degree and now works in city government in NYC.
10:00 to 10:22 True! Harley should've been the person on his mind in that life or death situation. On another note, Phillip looks like a mixture of Patrick Swayze & Mark Grossman.
@ 10:36-11:23 I just watched the clip of Phillip finding out Alan was not his biological father and Philip sounded just like Harley does here. Everyone knew before him. Interesting.🤨
I remember watching guiding light, Ryan's hope, loving, general hospital, One life to live and as the world turns! Lol. My mom and cousin.. Got me into watching the soaps! 😂
Harley is being unreasonable. They thought they were dying. She's acting like they had some love nest

They never made sense. What they did to the character of Beth Raines was unforgivable. They completely changed who she was to fit stupid storylines. I liked Harley as a character but not with Phillip. She was greeat with Mallet and later on with Gus. Never Phillip. Aside from that, great actress.
No love for Alan-Michael? I liked him and Harley together as well! As far as Beth being "different" from the 80s, it made sense after everything Beth has been through (Carl Stephens, the whole Neil/Gary fiasco, EVERYTHING with Bradley, etc).

@@marcelparker6755 I liked Alan-Michael, I adored him with Lucy! As for Beth, I could understand the "difference" for a time but it went on far too long and in a way that never made real sense to me. Especially after Edmund.
This scene is what forever cemented my hatred of the Phillip and Beth pairing. Harley deserved so much better. It’s such a ridiculous trope. Two people trapped together thinking they’re going to die…. The last thing I’d be thinking of is getting laid. Especially if I was about to leave children behind. Sec doesn’t “just happen.” Phillip and Harley are a great couple. They could’ve stayed together. Then the writers never let Harley find happiness. Beth was bever good with anyone after Lujack. After 1997 her character was destroyed.
Phillip and Harley honestly never made much sense together, but damned if I didn't love them to PIECES (at a time when there was precious little to like about this show with the gangster and fairy tale invasion) and damned if this didn't break my heart. Phillip was the last Harley pairing (aside from the one-that-never-was with Rick) I could truly get behind.
I can't remember how they got together but damn it, they worked. It looks rotten on paper. But somehow the writers/ the actors all made it work. Harley isn't even his type. But these two had a chemistry.
Phillip and Harley were perfect because they were mismatch. They were crazy about each other. They fought so hard to be together ❤️ and look what happened damn.
The one thing that pissed me off was when the Harley tried to slap Daisy and Frank stepped in at the exact moment and stopped her because she went off on bit so Beth tried to be a mommy with a daughter she don't even know and she thought she had that right to do it but Frank got in between some don't I love that scene then I hate that scene because it had no right to think she could do that that was not her daughter biologically yes Frank did the right thing yeah Daisy pushed her button and hardly responded
I can truly say this about guiding light some big stars came out of The guiding light if you couldn't make it in guiding light you couldn't make it nowhere one of my favorite was Frank grillo, who went on the star in The Purge movies and of course in the lot of martial arts flicks. But I missed the girl that played Dinah she was hot she was something if you couldn't make it and got in light you couldn't make it nowhere one thing for sure guiding light prepared a lot of these actors to go to Hollywood and make it and a whole bunch of them came from what I call The guiding light School of acting especially Brittany and Hayden who are friends to this day almost sisters. Lot of famous people made they mark on guiding light.
Sorry Harley love ya but Gus was your soulmate...or Mallet liked her with BOTH, but Phillip and Beth are eachothers soulmates...soon James will be born. To bad Guiding Lights not on today..James, Zack and Jude would probably be front burner in storylines while we'd complain they need to give the vets more airtime! lol hated how the brought back Susan as Daisy and made her YOUNGER wtf!!
I loved Phillip and Harley together and hated when they split. This storyline was great, but I didn't want them to go their separate ways. After this, they started writing Phillip as a psycho. To me, this was the beginning of the end. Loved this storyline, though.
Please bring back a good plot twist, a good storyline, good TV, and good entertainment. Talk shows messed it up for soaps but they are going off so plz bring it back. It's like the news are taking over the day tv.
Never get involved with someone who still talks about their ex see’s their ex it has a strong bond and friendship with someone else. Because it’ll never last.
I stopped watching GL just before I believed Harley and Phillip became a thing. It didn't really work for me. I remember when Harley was with Alan-Micheal. I also liked Phillip and Beth from when I was very young. Anyway it's a very good dramatic scene. Now, I want to see the entire story. I'm really surprised there were no nominations for this storyline. Good soapy stuff.
Well do you remember that scene where Harley tried to slap Daisy and Frank stepped in between her and told her don't you do it don't you even think about it. Well apparently Harley's think well since that's her daughter I got a right to discipline her no you do not have a right to discipline her she's not your daughter biologically yes apparently Daisy pissed her off and she almost slapped her with Daisy just stood there waiting for her to do it because she had pushed Harley's button.
Harley you will never be Beth and that’s why it never worked....you aren’t Beth and couldn’t replace Beth in his heart.....and Jim could never be Philip .....and he thought he was dying ....it’s not like they just had an affair or a one night stand ....how self righteous of you to not even consider how he was feeling.
@@dawnofdestruction7381 I just bought the 50th anniversary book and they have a timeline of important events and was shocked to learn when Alan Michael was born as he should've been a year older than me but was way older by the time I was watching full time. 🤣
I use to respect Beth Elders but when she moved to AMC, she complained about an actor who wasn’t really an actor but a marine vet who was disfigured. Who at the time had issues remembering his lines. I guess she wasn’t patient but she ended up leaving AMC and he was offered a contract and stayed there until the end.
Love and RESPECT Beth Ehlers. Your comment is misleading. She didn't "complain" about a veteran. She was in fact being honest about his acting skills when a fan pointed it out. She didn't lie. She gave her realistic point of view. You yourself just said he couldn't remember his lines. Her outspokenness in that particular interview was more directed towards the behind the scene power heads such has the head writer. Not the war veteran. I don't believe for a moment that Beth wanted to hurt nor disrespect the vet. That's why she apologized to him. She had stated his story made her want to be a better person. On separate occasions she did state her gratitude for meeting with some vets and being a part of an important storyline. Which by the way, went no where because the head writer simply didn't care enough. Also, I'm guessing she doesn't regret not moving to LA with AMC only for it to be cancelled within a year.
