@@spaztastic7393So the Southern accent is the accent for the region around Kyoto? That’s kinda strange. I always assumed Kyushu would be the equivalent of the “South”
Interesting how Nago looks to Baiken as someone to learn more about using a sword despite being a immortal vampire who is near confirmed to be Yasuke, which would mean he served in the Sengoku period under Oda Nobunaga and has survived to this point for centuries. Baiken must be a absolutely goated duelist in her mortal lifespan if Nago seeks advice from her.
@@Projectainavale I’m pretty sure it was said in the campaign that Chaos was the “That Man” who is responsible for what happened to Baiken. “That Man” is a semi-shared title between HC and Asuka
This woman single-handedly(pun) rekindled my love for SamSho after it bit the dust. Well, tbh, Warden 'Weeb-Slayer' helped a lot too, but it was mostly(%80) Baiken lol. That walk of hers is just... inspiring.
When Xrd vanilla got dubbed only to then have the dub be subsequently dropped immediately upon going towards the next version of Xrd I was pretty pissed. The dubs back then for vanilla Xrd were amazing and after seeing Strive I'm happier than I've ever been to hear english voices come back. The voice actor director still sucks ass at getting the absolute best out of these amazing voice actors but this is just common for fighting games these days. It's as if the voice directors are hired solely on how little fucks they give to maximize voices but ah well. They still sound amazing nonetheless.
I’m so glad to hear someone else liked the -Sign- dub! I fucking loved David and Sam’s performances in Xrd and feel that the lack of English dub in Rev2 is such a cruel void left in an otherwise nearly perfect game. I even think Xrd’s dub has some better line reads than Strive, especially in Sol’s attack banter. His new “DRAGOOON install” feels so strange when in Xrd he was screaming it perfectly. I also think Sam Regal is still the best Ky, so light and gentlemanly. Sorry, Im gushing. I’ll go now haha
I was today years old when I found out this character was voiced by Sylvanas Windrunner. Thanks, Patty Mattson. Now I have to actually buy this game now
I kind of love how at the end of arcade mode she turns to face Anji. I wonder if that was on purpose. Also, the 'kid about half my age' probably refers to Delilah.
The one complain I have about her VA is that she could’ve sounded a bit more… feral. A bit more raspy is what I mean. Otherwise, not bad for her very first English VA.
agreed, there's a hoarseness to her voice that i feel is missing in the dub, you can tell best in her "Tatami Gaeshi" line. the VA herself is good, the direction needs some work imo
I think it fits how Asano's changed her voice for Baiken from Xrd to Strive. She's still all growly when doing Baiken's attacks, but in her actual dialogue her delivery is noticeably more smooth and calm compared to how she sounded in Xrd.
It’s why I wish Revelator and Rev2 had English voices. Baiken is just too mellow in Strive for me, and Xrd’s violent screaming Baiken would have been such a treat to hear localized.
Okay, so Eng VA is actually Patty Mattson, AKA Sylvana from WoW among other roles she did (like Captain Underpants, Care Bears and more). Honestly, pretty good so far.
Yeah. Mayumi Asano (her Japanese VA) gives her a Kansai accent. That said this is the first time in a long while I've seen a dub pull the "Kansai = Southern" trope.
0:51 is the voice line I wish they did another take on. It sounds... rushed? The second half gets quiet, but not in a speaking softly sense. More like running out of breath to finish the sentence. It FEELS like the line should be either sage-like or menacing. It just comes across awkward.
@@TheSHIELDCap Thanks for that comment all I know this voice actor is nico that's how a I heard of her cowgirl accent and its brilliant idea they hired her for baiken
It's very common in US dubbing to localize a character with a Southern accent when they speak with a Kansai dialect in the original Japanese due to similar cultural stereotypes about the people from the respective regions.
I think it's an allusion to Baiken's fighting style. She doesn't have a whole lot of options for going on the offensive, so her attacks can be rather predictable. On the other hand, she has the ability to attack from a defensive position, meaning that if you get too aggressive or attack carelessly you will get punished.
2:42 That moment right there fellas. It confuses me every time I see it. In the older games this victory pose would be censored starting from Rev2. I don't know why they can't show us a samurai licking his blade after battle when we might have seen it in other media. I remember when Goemon in a Lupin movie did it before battling an opponent, and the opponent remarked that Goemon did that because he thinks his opponent is not worthy of his blade. Why is it a problem then to censor it when Baiken does it? Is it censored even in the Japanese version? Hell is it even censored in the Japanese/arcade version of Xrd Rev2? I'm just curious on the WHY
It's not censored- she's wiping her blade on a cloth to cleanse blood from it. Note the small strips floating off after she does that. However, because she's missing an arm, she has to wipe the blade off in a rather convoluted manner- namely, by holding either the cloth or the sword in her mouth.
@@Deadeye129 I can't help but see this as awkward? I see how the cloth that you're talking about, but it's so suspiciously perfectly square that I can't think of any other reason. I remeber playing Dust Strikers with her and seeing blood and her lick in the victory. Could be a design choice or whatever. Well, thank you anyway pal. I'll try stop thinking about it.
I think licking the blade would even be considered disrespectful to the blade itself and it would frame Baiken as purely sadistic mad woman rather than a hatred driven one. She’s violent, but she’s not crazy. Don’t remember ever seeing her licking her blade either, she’s just holding the cloth between her teeth and passing the blade through it to clean it. In dust strikers the resolution is horribly downgraded, but they recycled the exact same sprites used in accent core. You might have missed the cloth detail in the sprite and thought she was doing it with her bare mouth
She doesn't sound that old. Her character is a tomboy who acts very tough and cool. She's self-assured and comfortable in her own skin. Her experiences have left their mark on her and the way she speaks is a reflection of her maturity and gravitas. She also smokes. You wouldn't expect her to have a high-pitched, girly voice.
@@splitjawjanitor5369 bro she is the same age or around Anji's and Bed mans sister was in her Story mode and she even said half her age or something like that. regardless she doesnt sound old in the Japanese dub. she has girt to her voice but it never impacted in anything ever even in GG1. like huh?? bro? like that point is irrelevant.
