cheers to you N! make sure to look through the comments I remember finding two possibilities for the chord I thought was a C octave chord and typing it out.
Looked this up cause I’m gonna go to possum kingdom lake. Haven’t been there since I was in Boy Scouts in like 1989. Will not go behind the boat house. Great lesson!
Amazing channel man. Stumbled on here by chance, but watched a ton of your free lessons. You bring them with so much joy and a great sense of humor. You genuinly seem like a great guy with an excellent taste in music, judging on the songs you teach. Keep up the good work and do me a favour someday and do a Smashing Pumpkins song.
what's up Beran, thanks for the kindness! I'm glad you're enjoying your time here :) I've done a few pumpkins songs, and of course I plan to do many many more.
What a blast to the past!! I love this shit - growing up in Dallas this was a go to... Ryan you are impressive... I also think that this song came out in 1995 which is the same year Pearl Jam played Red Rocks! Wow what a coincidence
Just one small correction on an almost three year old video… the obligatory weird C Octave chord that Ryan mentions should actually be the G#7. The same G#7 that comes later in the song.
Cool. Love The Toadies. I have the songbook for the Rubberneck album so I don't need any tab for that GREAT album, BUT I would recommend the song from the second album "Push that Hand" I really love that song from the Hell Above/ Stars Above album. Hope to see it! Rock on Ryan! \m/
I kinda found a cheap way on accident to cheat the bridge section. Just use the G#7 shape the whole time on these frets (the number of the fret is where your middle finger should be and the shape follows that.) A is fret 5, the g#7 chord stays the same, then C#7 is fret 9, then D is fret 10, and B is fret 7. Sorry if it’s confusing and it’s probably not practical but I thought it was cool.
Cool song, When I heard it in the past, I didn't know who did it, nor did I really care to know. But back in the day, I heard it a lot and thought it might be that band Filter "Hey Man Nice Shot" kind of band. When you count to 7, is there a 7/8 Time Signature? You counted to 6 in the 6/4 Time Signature... The Ramones often(or always) count to 4 before a song at their live concerts. Offhand do you know if the Ramones are ALWAYS in 4/4 count? ...... I think I saw Mr Spaghetti's friend heckling Tim Ferriss when Ferriss was speaking to a crowd at one of his seminars. Mr. Spaghetti's friend was removed by security. ....And how did a Nathanson concert motivate you to start this channel? Thanks, Ryan.
I'll share the matt nathanson story on a livestream :) I can't think of a time when the ramones aren't in 4. Yes that is a 7/8 and 6/4 time signature. Mr. Spaghetti's friend is out of line!!
Hey, I like your lessons, but I have to point out at 3:37 that 2 note chord just doesn't sound right so I broke that part down & it's actually a 3-note chord, after figuring it out I confirmed it by watch them play it acoustically. I think its starting on low E middle finger 6th fret, pointer 5th on the A, & ring 6th fret on the D. Sounds like it to me anyways. I've only watched your vid that far so far.
hehe. back before internet and before i had a decent ear i couldn't tell for the life of me whether this song was pearl jam or not when i heard it like in a grocery store or something for the first time.
ahem, thank you for the poke Kevin - I, too, hated that when I was figuring it out, and really wanted it to be like a G# of some sort, but couldn't find any evidence to support that theory. Update: just found his hand position in this video at that chord ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eRmoD1mhdvU.html (1:41) and it is indeed a G# of some sort - it depends which of his pinky and ring finger you think is just hanging out there not pressing any notes, but it's either 434xxx (G#7) or 435xxx (G#M7) try both and report back on which one you think it is!
4345xx would be an amazing choice because it would have both C octaves, or if you think both is pinky and ring finger are down then it would be 4354xx which would be like a major 7 and a sharp 9... disclaimer - i don't have a guitar in my hands at this moment, just thinking through the possibilities for you try :) I wish I'd have caught that when I made the video - Thanks again Kevin!
