I’m in Greenwood, Mississippi. I open carry regularly but will be concealed carrying when I get a more compact pistol. I’m eyeing a Browning black label 1911 .380(yes I prefer the 1911 platform and am more comfortable with it). I’m a runner 🏃🏾 and sometimes the areas I’m running in can be a bit sketchy. Now with some people becoming more desperate during the current state(coronavirus) of our world, I’d rather have some form of extra protection on me while I get my workout/run in.

When a person moves to Mississippi what is a process for a permit process

Have to be a resident for at least a year, get your MS license with your current address, go take a 8 hour course from a Mississippi Department of Public Safety certified instructor which then gives you a certificate to take with you when you file for your CCW permit at a Mississippi Highway Patrol office. There they will finger print you and run a background check, up to 6 weeks later you'll receive your permit in the mail. The certificate you receive from your instructor is what you need to get your enhancement on you permit.

Can I own a gun if I’ve been diagnosed with depression even though I only want it for my protection in my home. An answer needed please

Short answer is yes. That's why we have hippa laws. That diagnoses is only your business and being diagnosed with depression has no effect on any of your constitutional rights. If you Google a 4473 background check and read the questionnaire you'll probably have a much better understanding of what would make you ineligible to buy. Hope that helps

When crossing state lines, definitely and you'll still need to check a reciprocity map to make sure the state you are traveling to or through honors an agreement with Mississippi. The best way to check is go to USCCA's website or download their app. You can enter your permit information and it will update your map for you. This will show "green" states, "yellow" limited restrictions with descriptions, and "red" no go places. Hope this helps.

As a student at a university, without a permit, could I at least leave my pistol locked in my car or should I leave it at home?

As long as it's in a locked compartment and you don't travel onto a facility operating under federal authority like a military base or NASA, you may.

Update, passport photo not required with the most recent application. I brought it and was told since the newest application does not have that page, it's not required any longer.

Legally then you are limited to purchasing only long guns like rifles and shotguns until you turn 21.

@@Dondon-ni1gf Private purchases or inherited would be a legal way of you owning a handgun before 21. It's not illegal for anyone of any age to possess most all firearms. That is what the 2nd amendment is all about at face value and something that may soon end in the near future.
