*has his own freestyle board company* *is still willing to give freestyle board hacks because it’s not about the money* You are a gem, Mike. Absolutely wonderful.
"Hey, everyone! Mike the salesman here!" lol Glad to see you're making content again. Nothing quite like the sound of a new board and new wheels getting broken in.
Hahha I’m trying not to be a salesman here. You can make your own skids or buy FS wheels from a bunch of other companies. I’d just like to see more folks freestyle
isn't it hilarious that people refer to the popsicle shape as "traditional" or "normal" but freestyle and others were around before street snd the popsicle deck.
The popsicle design makes him kinda "standard" deck, his sucesss to achieve a diferent level on promoting skateboard is fair distant from the others that are kinda for skate nerds who really got obessed for the culture. Its was really late that I have the chance to porsuit a different kinda deck here on Brazil, they are the industrie choice of weapon on the market.
Thank you Mike. Those details about deck size, trucks width and offset wheels are really useful. There is not enough information on the internet about this. Plus the limited choice of freestyle deck and trucks combination, it makes new comers like myself have a difficult time in setting up a freestyle board. Belated happy go skateboarding day :)
Nice one, as always ;-) One addition: If you really get into learning Caspers and have the board upside down for hours, the very end of nose and tail will slowly erode. As you can't really put skidplates on top of the board, a row of small woodscrews right at the edge where the Casper lands will prevent razor tail developing from the top side.
Bwaha I love caspers so I totally know how that goes. Does it sound scairy though? I shift my caspers allot so they scrape, I can imagine the screws scrapeing hard.
I did a number of freestyle tricks on my 8.5, high concavity street board for a while. I got Indy's and paired them with some deep conicals (Santa Cruz Slimeballs) and a couple extra speedrings, and my board sat rock solid on the rails. The wheels and axles were basically lined up. I sacrificed nose slides and gripped the nose. The thing was a lotta fun and definitely freestyle capable. Recently moved to an old school shape, so we'll see what I can do there :)
I ride 7.75 enjoi full concave deck with 145 thunder trucks and 52mm 95a wheels. Works for me for both street n freestyle. I might buy freestyle board as a support for freestyle community
Skidplates should be way more popular with the average amateur skater than they are. The board lasts way longer and the only tricks it impacts significantly are nose and tail slides. A 7.75 street board with skidplates to me is like the ideal all purpose skateboard.
I don't see myself going with a freestyle board. But the freestyle wheels are interesting, and I'm thinking about getting a set, and incorporate freestyle tricks like primo slides into my street riding
Are you going to come out with more Waltz designs anytime soon? I want to get some wheels but I’m not a huge coffee person, lol. I looked at Mode wheels and it’s nice that they are the same price, but I’d rather buy from Waltz just to support you.
Huge respect Mike, yet again another infectiously positive video man. Many thanks for the pointers gunna get me some offset wheels n smaller trucks and play with my spare setup. Even at my ripe old age I'm super inspired to learn new tricks. Stay Blessed
I rewatched this video after getting into freestyle and it boggles my mind that Mike is capable of going rail to rail on a setup like that with some fairly low trucks. Crazy skill
i think most 7.75 trucks are really 7.625 because most people these days dont skate boards that small so to cater to both people who skate 7.5s/7.75s, they just made trucks dead in the middle.
@@mike_osterman1 first things first: i really appreciate the way you are, famous and still damn fine authentic and "human" 🙏🙂 Next up is a question to you: are you gonna sell Waltz Boards / Decks and so on in Germany at some point? 'cause our market is vanishingly small so i'll probably have to build one myself soon (i don't like pretty much all of the available Boards / Decks here, i'm that kind of person..), freestyle is very very appealing to me and you take lots of the credit for it - so far i've only been skating street btw i'm building / upcycling boards myself, not for profit but for the joy it gives me and people honestly love them: ] so it's not halfhearted or of amateurish quality, i absolutely aim for perfection tbh and work with very few powertools only. Meaning that building my own freestyle board is not only just a pure fantasy of mine, you see, it's passion and reality: ) Thanks a lot & greetings from Germany! ✌ Steven
Which park is this? One disadvantage of the offset freestyle wheels is you go through them much faster, since you can't turn them around when they start to cone.
i have to stop watching these vids man, you guys make it seem so simple, easy and really beautiful that im on the fringe of buying a skate for myself to only feel disappointed at my inability to stand on both legs on top of a skate, damn.
Nice videos Mike! I been skating for More than 34 years and I really like to combine the way I skate street or park with some freestyle. I'd like to turn my street board more freestyle friendly but I won't skidplates jeopardize my ollies? Greetings from Argentina!
That part at 6:15 is what I needed to hear! I bought a waltz deck a while ago and ordered the rest of the pieces online elsewhere ... but I ordered 7.5 trucks for my 7.5 deck, and unfortunately they were a bit too long. Welp, now I know why
@@mike_osterman1 Cool man. To be fair, I'm still relatively new at skateboarding in general, so maybe it's something that most people know. Either way, not a bad idea. But ya, there isn't much content out there in general for freestyle skateboarding. I've learn most of my freestyle tricks/knowledge from your videos aha (esp. your trick tips from the past).
I got an Almost blue reflex 8" 14" wheel base with nano cubics, and tensor mag lo 5.25, i mainly skate street but it lets me try alot of freestyle stuff too, ive been thinking about at least one skid plate
I'm looking for the right truck to hack my street deck for freestyle primo tricks. On Mode site they have Indy 109 (6.9" axle) on 7.4" deck (0.5" difference) and one Waltz site there's Bullet 120 (7.2" axle) on 7.5" deck (0.35" difference). I'm not sure should I go for 7.5" or 7.75" truck on a 8" deck if I want the offset wheels sit flush against the deck.
Hey, that’s really weird. I’m only affiliated with Waltz skateboards. You’ll have to reach out to the company that made those wheels and ask them. Definitely a problem
@@mike_osterman1 it wouldn't stick out too much yeah? I'm superstitous about dimensions, I usually ride an 8.5 with indys 159 and I learn from your vids so I want to get your wheels when it restocks and your deck looks good for more modern freestyle/street compared to my peralta reissue. what deck size walt should I get? I'm def sticking to the wider size for the comfort.
hey mike, great vids, really love the freestyle aesthetic and your vibe. i'm curious though, are you a trustfund skater? like how do you support yourself as a relatively unknown skater? it's money endowed by your parents, right? thanks!
Hey Mike, What can you say about wood skid plate ? Is there a difference between wood and plastic? www.nesk8-shop.de/epages/63805034.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/63805034/Products/293 (it's your european customers link)
Hey, wood skids definitely work. I like how they feel for some Ollie tricks since it feels more like popping an skidless tail. On the other hand, they don’t slide as smoothly as hard plastic skids
but on the street no have much freestyle and here is hard find deck and wheels if you don't understend mas no se ver muitos freestylers e é dificil achar decks e rodas
Sorry Mike, I luv your videos. but your generation has accepted those shit wheels...they dont move, they dont slide. they fuck up all techniques...there are so many great wheels! "coffee" wheels are not good.
Hi Ian, we make the wheels that we want to skate. Smaller, harder, offset wheels allow us to skate to our best ability and perform tricks like rail stands, coconut wheelies, etc. We’re happy to hear that you found a wheel that works well for you but please do keep in mind that a ton of thought and planning went into developing the Coffee Break wheel. We cannot personally cater to the needs of every individual skater but I believe that we are producing the best product for the widest range of freestyle skill levels and trick needs. Thanks for the comments!
