King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah and Elect of God, His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I. These were the titles bestowed on Ras Tafari Makonnen when he was crowned Emperor of the Ethiopian Empire on the 2nd of November 1930.
As leader of a civilisation that had lasted for over, the new Emperor would now be seen by millions around the world as a universal symbol of African pride and sovereignty, at a time where virtually all indegenous African kingdoms had fallen under European subjugation.
Over the course of his 44 year reign as leader of a civilisation that had lasted for over 3,000 years, Selassie would be many things to many people: to some an imperialist and brutal despot, to others a symbol of anti-imperialism and freedom, to some a pompous and self-serving monarch, but to others a literal messiah and God incarnate.
Paradoxes and contradictions may be common to all great historical figures, but not many mixed oil and water quite like the last Emperor of the Ethiopian Empire.

"War" is Bob Marley's most poetic song. The lyrics are from Hailey Sallasie's speech to the U.N. after the invasion by Mussolini.

My dad spoke highly of him . I never knew the man. But an Armenian gentleman told me that his grandfather along with 49 other Armenian orphans were adopted by the king and gave them food , shelter, and a good education.

What strikes me most about this channel is how unbiased it is. It's such a rare thing to find such unbiased modern media. It is also so well researched, narrated, and composed.

It is usually very difficult to sum up a 40+ year history under an hour video, but that was an excellent narration, not biased, just factual. I would wanna see more of similar videos.

What His Imperial Majesty did to his country and Africa was nothing less than a miracle. When we pass judgment about any particular leader, we have to see things in a holistic approach. The timing, and the challenges internally and externally should be fully understood. To me, His Majesty was such a remarkable and an extraordinary leader of Africa.
