Yeah I forgot to plug in the ethernet cable recently too. Nefarious Nephew and I were all over the settings in his Windoze box before I noticed the loose cable :) Plugged it in, and everything was happy again.

Great episode as usual! May not be the best place to ask this, but I'll do it anyways: Are NMAP and/or ettercap capable of doing any harm to computers in a network, except gathering data (not because I consider that being harmful)? I mean, are they safe to be used by John Doe trying to learn some network-related stuff?

How to do make a variable a file in bash? For example, u want to use the script to identify any image file type by executing it with a file after it ---> $ ./script.sh /home/user/pictures/example.png I am using the identify command from imagemagick. #!/bin/bash Identify.... Not sure what to do next.

If you're going to discuss diagnosing with ping, it bears mentioning that not all network equipment, e.g. firewalls, some managed switches and routers may have ICMP requests turned off. So, even though the host is really alive, you won't get your echo replies. For this, nmap (on Linux) or zenmap (on Windows) will help determine open ports which would rule out whether the host is alive.

I am thinking of going to Linux+ but I don't know anything about Linux I have an A+ cert I was thinking of gong to Server + next and then Network+ but I want to take Linux + should I take it if I have no experience with it
