Thank you Doug, to listen to your music is like hitting the reset button and going back to a time where everything makes sense again. Your music is simply beautiful!!!
@@dougsteel.... What make of Lap Steel is that, Doug? I Love the tone quality of it... or, is it mostly in that Quilter that you're running it through? What tuning are you using with that ? I just sent back a new 6 string made in an eastern US state (& their most expensive model)... hideous "fit & finish".... sad! I'm nearly finished with a complete restoration of a 1956 National D8... and looking for a different 6 string to buy... please, if you would... answer my questions above, would love to find one like it. Thank You, so much.. for all your Great steel video's and recordings... you're keeping me motivated to learn and master the lap/console steel.... or, at least as far as I can get with it, starting at 70+ years "young". : )
@@Romans--bo7br See the video Description for the make of steel and the tuning. Yes, I'm playing through the Quilter amp, recording direct, so you're not hearing the speaker sound of the amp. I'm taking the signal direct from the amp. Thanks for watching my videos. By the way, I am 70+ too!
@@dougsteel.... Hello again, and thanks for your quick "come back" to my questions. Sheesh!!.... don't know How I ever managed to miss the lap & tuning information!?!.... I generally always read the video descriptions for answers, and to keep myself from asking dumb questions! lol Great Country music from Mass... of all places! lol ; ) Just not a state that many "Out of Staters" would think of, as a place of country music players... and a few (like..yourself) really great players, at that!! But, back in the day... Country music was very much alive and well, back there. Actually, I was born & raised, no that far east of you... in the Weston area, where the Mass. Pike & I-95 intersect... but, I had the "Go West, young man... go west" thing in me since I was about 9 or 10 years old... and moved to northern Wyoming after I got back home from my 3rd and last "tour" in VN, in 1970... 52 years ago, this Nov.!! Yikes!.. WHERE, have all the years "gone" to already!??! If I had to do it over again, I would have picked up on the "Steel" (lap/console & pedal) way back then, instead of waiting til now, as I've loved country, western/Texas swing, etc since as far back as I can remember..... Ohhhhh, WELL!!... life happens! Don't know How I got to liking country music as I did... my dad was from Scotland, and played the "pipes" in his younger days. I got my first real exposure to Country music when we would go to this outdoor / weekend live music place amongst the pine trees... in Reeds Ferry, NH. called the Lone Star Ranch, owned by Gene LaVerne, and I remember it being real relaxed, come as ya are kind of place, and it seemed there was always some national or regional country "star" that would show up to perform... but you just never knew who, until they showed up. If I remember right, the first or second time we were there.... a "tour bus" pulled in, and it was Hank Snow. I remember Kitty Wells, Roy Acuff, & Ernest Tubb, also headlining there. So, the Magnatone Student that you're playing in this video... only has a volume pot?.... or, is it a tone control and your controlling the volume with just the amp? Wish I was living in Northhampton, now.... I could use some really good "pointers" from the Best of the best lap players!! I love the precise, "clean" playing style and... fabulous tone, feeling, phrasing and pitch control... that you have in your playing. I definitely want to emulate that in my own playing as I progress... and am working hard to pay attention to my own phrasing and "touch" with every note I play.... but, I've only been at this since April this year.... and got back to re-learning the bass, just last fall... after having not played it, since I left for the Army in 1967. Sorry for the "book"... and if you would respond to my question regarding you Magnatone steel... I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, and have a great rest of your week.
Thank you for this delightfully refreshing visit to my girlhood -- good times! Watching your talented hands evoke so much music from a mere six strings, while making it look easy, provides almost as much pleasure as does listening.
Wow The Smooth As Butter Man. Doug wow what a tune, you bring that to life, you give it a beating heart. There is no one I know that sounds as good as you, you look like you do it effortlessly. You are The Smooth as Butter Man.. Thanks so much for posting.
Really a great job of playing the lap steel. The kind of music I live back in the early 60s I had a 1962 ford F100 I put a four tract tape player in it and all I played was Hank Williams songs on it driving all over Montana. For the good old days traveling and sleeping on the bench seat and both doors open so I would fit. Great time I wish it was like that today, work for food and a little money for gas five dollars would get you twenty gallon of gas that would get you a long ways down the road and to another ranch.
I love to listen to you that was fantastic playing I like the style of music you play I play the drums and I played in country western band in the 70 s. I just turned 74 last month. Keep up the good steel guitar playing you have a great and blessed day
I grew up listening to slide because of my Dad and Grandfather but ventured off into Zeppelin, Sabbath and the like. But now I'm back baby. Thanks for the "Will Smith" to my head.
Great sound...Doug, you make Magnatone proud. I love my Magnatones even though I have an old Ric Panda. I still always grab the Magnatones first. Built like tanks and they sound great. It's no wonder why Joaquin Murphey always kept a few in the trunk of his car as a last resort just in case.
Made my day Doug. I’m in the UK. Just taken up the lapsteel at the age of 73 as I am struggling a bit on the guitar after 50 years playing. I am loving it. Puts a smile on my face every time I play it. Please keep on inspiring me. Such a happy sound.
What I like about this , is everything. Unlike fame hungry muppets , you don't show! Your face . You let the Music speak for you . And it does a damn fine job of showing your talent off .
That's what I'm talkin' about! Whatever happened to REAL Country Music. This is like a breath of fresh air after being in a stuffy room. Like stepping back into yesterday for a needed revisitation. It makes me want to put my feet up and get comfortable. Terrific stuff!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doug...you may think I'm lying...but I tell you the truth...for somehow on RU-vid did not notify me this video. Damn them! So I had no idea; you did this unbelievable rendition; of a simple SG; with just 6 strings going wild. By making it sound; like it's an awesome, full band. WOW! And the licks you did are unbelievable. So my "Caregiver" sent me an email just now...and said, "Pat...you gotta hear Doug Beaumier on this one!". So instantly: I did it just now. And NO wonder she said that. WOW! In my 90 yrs on this planet; NO player on a SG/PSG has brought me; the joy you do Doug. So kind Sir, may Jesus continue giving you talents; that only could come from Heaven. Amen! And... NONE FINER! Dear Sir.
Thank you, Pat! I know that you love the steel guitar, and you're a big fan of JB and classic country. I'm so glad you like my video. Lately I've been working on improving the backing tracks for my songs. I make those tracks myself... computer drums and bass, and I add live guitars to that. So I end up putting more time into the backing track than the steel guitar, but it's worth it. Thanks again, I wish you all the best!
@@dougsteel I'm honored and humble; that you took your time; to teach us how you make your videos. I kinda felt you did all the voices. And what a "gem" you did. For your backup music; is one of the things; that make your video's so real and crystal clear; and melodiously perfect. And how you get those bass strings to sing out; like few have ever done. I'm 90 now. And I can no more play my SG's and PSG's. For I just can't hit the right strings any more. So listening to you; brings me joy unimaginable now. And I never want to stop listening to your incredible renditions; to my last breath! Listening to "our" Doug. That is Extraordinaire"; to the Nth degree. AMEN! Thank you dear friend. And I am putting my "Rickenbacher" (pre-war) Bakelite, 7 string Steel Guitar; in my Will to you. And my caregiver will send you that... IF she asks you your address. It will be yours; and we will pay the shipping costs. For I know of NO other SG player; that would deserve that classical instrument more, like you. Because Jerry Byrd always said; "It had the best sound he had ever heard". And he never stopped recording on his 6 and 7 string Bakelite's; until he drew his last breath. Although he did play other makes of the steel guitar; but he never touched a pedal steel guitar. Because he felt his fans would be hurt; if he went to Pedals. End of story.
@@MrPatdeeee Wow, I would be honored by that, Pat. I know that Jerry loved the Rick Model B sound, and especially the 7-string version. His diatonic tuning was 7 strings, and he said that 7 strings were necessary for that tuning.
@@dougsteel Well my "caretaker" and I got to thinking: "I can't play it any more. So why don't we ship it tomorrow to your home!". And that would please to me. And I pray that I live long enough to hear "our" Doug Doug Beaumier; plays my favorite SG in history; and I can hear a genius tickle those 7 strings. And even Jerry Byrd will be happy as He could be! May Jesus rests his precious Soul. But I know OF no way; of your giving me your address; on RU-vid. So I am going to send you a private PM on the SGF. So you can tell me your address. Where my name is c. Dixon! Remember it's 85 yrs old. And bakelite is very fragile. And know this; Bakelite is VERY temperature sensitive; to changes the length of the strings. Which was the ONLY thing JD's hated. But the sound overrode that quagmire; with a sound NO other SG has ever had! As he said. And may Jesus cause blesses you to play that "classic" to the "4 corners of the world.". And we can't wait!
@@MrPatdeeeeAh Carl !! I remember you well from the steel guitar forum. I believe you used to put on steel shows in the Atlanta area? I would often read your posts, and I learned a lot about lap steel guitars from you. I just sent you a PM via the Steel Guitar Forum. I must say, I am overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity. It renews my faith in the goodness in the world.
Man you are so good, this song is a real great song as is most of the songs you do. Thanks for this and all of your music, all are so good to listen to and I think you are the best steel guitarist around. It is joy to my heart to hear this music and it is kept alive by pickers like you. Thanks so much and keep them coming please
Ah, a Cruly Williams song which Hank WIlliams almost refused to record (it went to NO.2) but gave in at his producer's request. An icon of a tune, done by many others, and broke the bonds of country and it scored well by Rosemary Clooney and even Ray Charles. No doubt, Hank's steel man, Don Helms, would love this version. I saw Don perform here in Hardy, Arkansas several years ago as we gave celebrated the hometown country stars The Wilburn Brothers, who were my Mon's cousins. This is a great job with a simple instrument. It proves to me that you do not have to play a double neck Mullen or GFI to make great country music.
@@dougsteel i have an old lap top steel out in my garage somewhere getting rusty....a friend in our band gave it to me back in the 70s and I have no idea how old it is...I was never any good trying to play with open keys so i put it away.
@@edwiles5258.....Do you still have that lap steel?..... Would you be willing to sell it..... or, give it away... depending on how much "rust" has taken hold of it?? I live in SW. MO.... 75+ years old, back to playing Bass after not playing since 1967, and learning the lap steel on an "el cheapo" made in China and Mandolin (Loar F Style).... would you please get back to me, with regards to your "rusting" lap steel? Reply, here. Thank you, sir.
Hello doug how are you . you played that cw song by hank Williams perfectly one of my favourite cw singers was hank Williams hank snow many more I could name loads. Keep up the good work gerry Liverpool UK 🎵🥁🎹🎸🎵🎸🎵🍺🍺
As I watch and listen to this, my wife has (again) threatened to divorce me because I "listen to that steel guitar guy way too much and pay less attention to me (her) as a result". Oh well, I was doing just fine before I met her. 😂
Train your ear to defrenciate between gossip, BS, and the grocery list and pertinent info. You get THAT down, you'll be a wise old man that doesn't need regular trips to the shrink😜
Had one almost like that back in the 60s while in the Air Force. Got it from a pawn shop in Phoenix. Was painted yellow. Tore it down and removed the paint. The wood was beautiful so I clear coated it. I'm 78 now and wish I had it back. Played it in the barracks. Nobody seemed to mind..
Thank you...thank you I was really depressed this evening and you have bought me out if it. I put a comment on RU-vid some time ago about an organist playing Bach's fugue and mentioned that I wasnt religious but if I passed a church and heard it playing I would be tempted to go in and listen but the down right evil comments back are staggering. You should be able to compliment people such as yourself and not have any come back on it. Thank you for your inspiration also as I have today received compliments from some truckers about my ukulele playing as I am sitting in a layby in my show man's wagon ( posh fancy caravan ) and they came over to say that it sounded very good so I have you to thank for it as I decided that you only know how good you play untill you play in front of people. thanks
You're such a great player! All your vintage guitars and amps. I have a preCBS Fender twin that I've had since 6 grade. Most of the songs you play I have played on guitar as a kid, I love it!
Hi Doug I heard that music before but u playing it with that instrument make s it a lot more beautiful I prey for u to live for a long time and keep doing it god bless
Wonderful surprise!! Kept me toe-tapping the whole time.....if I had the energy I would be dancing!! As usual I listened to it more than once. Trust me, we love you twice as much as you love us!!! Hello from Canada.
Mr. Beaumier if you aren't in a big named band known at least nationwide I think with your mastery you should be❗You play so well❗❗ Thank you for allowing us to hear your music. I enjoy each video you post. Pure hard work and talent. ❗🙂
