Well, he did kill her in Resurrection. But since the new movie only focuses on the first two movies and ignores the other 8, then I guess he never killed her.
That scene was hilarious. Sees the babysitter bloodied, on the floor, trying to escape, kid runs back up the stairs and says he'll go get help, just as Michael's about to stab her do death. What!? 😆
@@ciaraleeseyoo99 damn you're a rare one. I own all of them on dvds as well. I just saw the new one about 2 hours ago. Definitely want to see it again, and I'm ready for it to come out on blu ray so I can watch it again and catch the little things I probably missed. I wish more women around my way were like you, beautiful and a diehard fan. I would definitely be down with seeing it again in the theater too
Yeah, for me the first film is still the best because it has the best suspense. Every kill is somewhat of a suspense-release moment. The problem with having more frequent kills, unfortunately, is you have less stalking and suspense. It's a balancing act, since you need some good kills to establish what a threat Michael is. The original gets the balance just about right. People think of the original Halloween as one of the first slasher films, but it's much more about the stalking and watching from the shadows (or from a distance). It's what makes Michael Myers so creepy, the stealth and the eerie stillness he has about him. You know he's watching, you know he's going to get you, but you don't know where he is.
Man, Jeremey Jahns’ review is completely different than Chris Stuckmann’s review of Halloween. That just goes to show how different of an opinion everyone has and why you should always judge something for yourself, and not to always agree/disagree with someone’s opinion at face value
@@CPSlayer Really cause it seems more of that chris just acts bias "oh it's not like the original their for I'm taking points off" and never actually tries to let something be it's own thing.
I think Stuckmann had a lot of nostalgia bias with his review. Normally I completely agree with his horror reviews, but not with regards to Halloween 2018. I'm not saying he didn't make any good points, but it was rooted in comparing it to the other movies.
I also loved the scene where Lauries grand daughter was in the classroom...then looks out the window...and Laurie is there haha our theatre pissed themselves laughing at that aswell as the scene you mentioned...theatre started cheering too...get him Laurie!! Haha
I saw it on the big screen before this one premiered ( not for the first time by a long shot) but it did strike me that the movie is basicly a man stalking a girl... Yes it becomes a slasher by the end but 2/3 of the movie really just comes of a suspense thriller
I think Stuckman is a "try hard" maybe even so because hes trying to launch his own production company and wants to be overly aggressive when reviewing. I like Jeremy's approach seems a lot more like a friend telling you what he/she thought about a movie.
Jahns and Stuckman are the Siskel and Ebert of the RU-vid generation. They are both huge fans of movies, but approach them (and their critique) from slightly different angles. They don't disagree often, but when they do it's often fun figuring out why. I guess what I'm saying is these two need to do a collaboration.
I think Chris Stuckman just talks bad about every movie. I haven’t heard him say that a movie he watched at the cinemas was his favorite or that it was amazing.
the difference between Jeremy and a typical critic is Jeremy is critiquing it through the perspective of his viewers, so that if Jeremy says it good, it's more likely a viewer would agree after watching, where as other critics are pausing each frame for each flaw and do not care about escapism. So they might say it's bad but it could be seen as a good movie.
@@MitchellFace So you don't like it when he likes something you hate, you like it when he hates something you hate, and you love it when he thinks a movie you like is very good?
I am the man who walks alone, and when I'm walking a dark road at night, or strolling through the park when the lights begin to change I sometimes feel a little strange...
The beauty of Halloween is in its Hitchcock-esque suspense. You don't need gore, or outrageous action sequences. Just knowing that a seemingly unstoppable force is coming for you is terrifying in its own right
Youre in for a treat my friend. The movie was absolutely phenomenal and did the original justice. It feels very much like an 80s movie brought into 2018 and i love it, even the cinematography is done as it would in the 70s-early 80s
@@darennfreitas3636 to be honest I don't really think the horror genre died, I just think it's become very hard to make a genuinely scary movie with an actually original story and there's less and less people that can do that. People still enjoy horror so in that aspect it's not dead.. but that's just my opinion
but all they really had to do was play it safe: Basically remade every great scene from the previous films, same music but updated, same lines...it's like the Force Awakens basically.
Felt to me like he wasn't even really after Laurie. He was just hunting and cane across her again and after a moment recognize her and then still only went after by happenstance
I'm offically calling this "Halloween: H40." Fun Fact: Michael is 61 years old and still outlives both Freddy and Jason. Kinda sad when you think out it.
Very very excited for friday never been able to see a Halloween film in theatres i grew up on the halloween films and michael myers has been my favorite horror villian since im so happy with the overall great response its getting great review as always man
redhotchilifan98 yea im on the same boat when it comes to it being my favorite horror franchise but as soon as i could i was watching these movies in theaters n yes including the horrible Resurrection lol but yea im toooo damn exited for this one!!
@baconadian this one is far superior to h20, it has Easter eggs to past movies and is meant for fans of the franchise in general. H20 is held down by trying to be a scream clone.
ANGRY GORILLA No because the FT13 series was literally only spawned because of Halloween. I’m not saying that it’s because Halloween spawned the whole slasher genre, but because FT13th has absolutely no substance. The reason why the original Halloween became popular is because of the fact that Michael was just “evil.” This and the first H2 and H4 are the only Halloween movies that did the original justice
What! This has to be the worst out of the whole franchise after Rob Zombies debacle.. I personally thought the film was awful and I wouldn't even give it a second viewing..
Chris Stuckmann seems like that type of guy who brings a notepad and a pen to the movie theater and writes down all the negatives while the movie is playing and really doesn’t experience the movie like normal person
D Wait you’re an idiot if your think this movie is good. This will easily be one of the worse of the series. You kids are fucking stupid and easily entertained
Bill Cipher I would have liked it so much more without the scenes with those annoying teenagers who have no bearing on the plot at all. I felt like Judy Greer’s husband should have been written out. He was just annoying with inappropriate humor and had no relevance. I felt Laurie’s daughter would have been such a better character and vulnerable as a single mom who was unable to maintain a marriage herself the way she was raised. And then they cut out so many scenes involving Laurie or Michael from the trailer yet left in the cheating bf which had no relevance on the plot at all and the stupid cops joking about lunch. The humor was so ill timed and just ruined any tension the film could have had. I know they were meant as nods to the cheating bf in H4 and the cops in H5, but they focused way too much on including Easter eggs instead of more efficient editing and building better tension.
the Double Toasted guys really liked it, but some seem to be nitpicking. and I saw one reviewer who LOVED RZ's H2 and dogged this film for the exact same things he loved about H2.
Yea. I usually love Chris stuckmans reviews but his review and slight slander of this movie kind of bugged me. It was pretty clear he went into the film with very high expectations and thought it should have been a certain way
Chris and people who didn't like it for the most part IMPO are entitled to their own opinions. like you are entitled to yours. doesn't make either wrong or out of bounds.
@@JohnBlack2345 I don't think anyone is really shitting on him for having an opinion. He's entitled to it. All I and a few others were just pointing out some of the things that were flawed in his critisicim of the movie. At least me anyway
I just wanna give special recognition to the young actor (i'll avoid spoilers) who was with his dad. That was probably my favorite scene. It was amazing and the kid was great.
I view the Halloween franchise has a series of alternate timelines and this film is just another added timeline. The timeline I follow is the "Laurie Strode Trilogy" *(Halloween {1978}, Halloween {1981} and Halloween H20)* . I like the element of Michael and Laurie being related cause the only thing scarier than the fear of the unknown is the fear of being able to trust a MEMBER OF YOUR OWN FAMILY!
I like the idea of micheal hunting her down because she's the one that got away much better. I also hate the super natural aspects aand so does carpenter it's what made him different from other horror killers, he was a normal guy who was just really good at killing people
@@alexmansfield3268 I don't think shattering a glass window with his bare hand, punching a hole in a hard wooden door effortlessly, getting stabbed in the neck with a large sewing needle, getting stabbed in the gut with his own knife, getting shot six times in the heart by Dr. Loomis, and falling off a second-story balcony classifys Michael as a normal guy. I think Carpenter wanted Michael to be supernatural, just not flat out saying it or leaving it open-ended. After all, Dr. Loomis kept saying that Michael is pure evil, nothing but blackness in his eyes, having a malevolent force inside of him. Things got way out of hand when The Curse of Thorn stepped in and basically ruined the mystery of Michael and made him more of a sympathized villain/victim. That's when H20 stepped in and effectively erased it, allowing Michael to go back being mysterious and adding a little psychological twist to it. I think the fear of the unknown is a fair trade-off for Michael not being a normal killer. Supernatural doesn't have to equal less scary if it's done correctly.
Michael is not a normal guy. Even if the sequels are erased, he was stabbed in the eye, stomach and neck, shot six times in chest and stomach and fell off two-story balcony. Carpenter needs to kill it with that ‘he’s not supernatural’ bullshit.
I agree with these people. Chris is still my favorite movie reviewer on here, but he seems a little tired of movies for the time period, even in his overall attitude. I don't know.
This movie has such a diverse set of reviews for it... some love it, some hate it, some are disappointed, and some enjoyed their time. I personally liked the first 2 acts, but the third act was extremely weak. Also, the marketing almost ruined the movie, because instead of a our revenge story/slasher film, we get a story of her family lineage with TOO much time spent on the granddaughter. When it actually gets to the revenge, the characters suddenly become stupid and make poor decisions. But I must say, watching Michael Myers in action was definitely the highlight! Keep doing you Jeremy! You inspired my dad and I to start our own movie review channel, and we tune into your reviews every time after we post to see what you think!
Wow, glad to hear you enjoyed it Jeremy. Chris Stuckmann kinda seemed to hate this movie. So that means between the 2 "critics" I trust most have conflicting opinions on the same film..... gonna be interesting to see this movie for sure!
I'm so glad you liked this film. I've seen a few people not like it, and it was worrying me. I've read the script, so I know what happens, but I thought people would like it a lot more.
This is one of my favorite reviews by one of my favorite RU-vidrs about one of my favorite franchises starring one of my favorite actresses. Feeling real love right now. 💜
I do enjoy how you focus on fun when discussing a film, something I wish more people who review films did.... after all that is why we play video games or watch the movies or read....escapism and fun.... Looking so forward to seeing this on Friday night release.
Finally watched the movie today, overall I really enjoyed it and I’m a huge fan of the franchise. Some of the killings felt random and excessive, it wasn’t like the original where he was hidden, stalking, sort of meticulous in his targets. In this one, he hammers a lady’s head in, kills another random neighbor, etc. The scenes of him vs Laurie were incredible, the entire last half hour was just great. Loved how many references/odes it paid to the original
I've only seen trailers for this, and I got to say it is cool seeing so much positivity for movie. You'd think with this movie coming out the 40th Anniversary of the original, this could've spelled doom for the movie, but fans and critics seem to be welcoming this installment with open arms. May keep an eye for this one when it hits DVD/Blu-Ray, but I wouldn't mind seeing in the Theater. Good review.
SPOILER: You know, if I’m being honest, I really didn’t enjoy this new movie. I really didn’t care about any of the characters that weren’t either Laurie or Michael. None of the new characters had any emotional attachment. Some of the plot points (i.e. the new therapist putting on the mask) felt way underdone and killed off too soon. The two best parts were the way it conveyed the feeling of the originals and the special effects towards the end. I really had higher expectations if I’m being honest. I enjoyed watching it, but mostly bc of laughs, I only felt scared at the ending. The rest of the movie really didn’t create of feeling of suspense.
I thought the granddaughter and cop were alright, but the rest of the cast were either soy boys or annoying women. That black kid though was hilarious lol.
The lack of explanation of how Myers escaped (with the help of the doctor ? That would be lame)... the crossdressing boyfriend (dafuq ?) throwing the grand-daughter's phone in whatever it is so that her family can't reach her, the doctor's evil and diabolic scheme that... doesn't make any sort of sense (what a waste of Will Patton)... the random chat about sandwiches between two cops we don't care about... the husband (which you don't care about either) getting out when he sees the police car (dafuq)... Laurie leaning against the front door... nothing works, in this movie.
Thanks Jeremy If you watched all the movies like me, you can't help but fall in love So many callbacks to the previous films, it was a great treat! Can't wait to watch it again More of a tribute film than pure horror
I loved Lori's disappearing act in the last act. The long shot of him staring at the place she should have been made me chuckle. This movie has been the first since Hostel that had me wanting the villain to get messed up in a truly grizzly fashion.
I appreciate that your thumbnails don't give anything away about your review of the movie anymore. I remember seeing some of your thumbnails in the past and being like oh so it's shit then lol
My only issue is that Halloween 2 should have stayed canon, it was almost as good as first one and it completed its story. Also not only does it expand a bit on the lore, but takes place immediately after the first movie ended so yeah it's technically November 1st.
Yeah, the brother-sister aspect was hit and miss, on one hand it removes the fear that this could happen to anyone because Halloween 1 is based on the killer in the house with the babysitter urban legend. But on the the other hand it makes Laurie Strode more involved with the overall story. However, getting pass that, H2 is still a very enjoyable movie with a wonderfully "explosive" ending. I'm not disagreeing with you entirely, I just think H1 and H2 are very nice companion pieces.
Finally was able to review this movie, I thought it was great. Laurie Strode definitely was the strength of this film and Michael was cool like he use to be in the original one. I didn’t mind the side story it had about Michael and then trying to figure out why he was killing people but I at least wanted even a little something out of it, like him saying one word, instead of it just dying out towards the end of the film
Just a little thing bit I love the heavy sound of Michaels footsteps in the movie, it's really intimidating with every step he took, like a monster on the prowl.
I think the Laurie searching for Michael scene was way too long and it lost all the tension, plus there was no intense music to create suspense, it was just boring. And then the rest of the film happened way too fast, it was really anti-climatic...
I thought the film was rubbish and the ending was awful.. I was very disappointed with it and wouldn't even watch it again.. It was just wasted time spent watching this film that I'll never get back..
I’m so happy that they’re making him out be a serial killer again. The whole “invincible, because Jason and Freddy are”, was tired. Remember the Thorn symbol occultist deity? Can’t wait to see this. Thanks again Jeremy for the blunt, honest review!
I thought it was beautifully made but it lacks the horror suspense. It's like you have all the ingredients but you forgot one of the most essential spice to make the experience knock em dead.
The film was crap, I hated it and it's just as bad as Zombies debacle.. Had high hopes for the film but feel like I've been robbed and now I want my money back..
Is it a continuation of the first movie, sequel is usually defined as, "a literature, film, theatre, television, music or video game that continues the story of, or expands upon, some earlier work. ... Audiences are sometimes eager for more stories about popular characters or settings, making the production of sequels financially appealing. In movies, sequels are common." SInce Halloween 2 continues right from where we left of and is technically expanding upon the first movie. It by definition is a sequel.
I think the reason people connect with Jeremy’s reviews than others is because he seems to watch movies from an entertainment and enjoyment standpoint instead of the technical one and most audiences are watching for entertainment and enjoyment , and often times some movies arent technically great or good but super enjoyable and vise versa . So you’ll see that difference in reviews
Shatner as Myers. Wow I can't fathom his legendary pause acting in this iconic killer. Definitely we be guessing whether he's there or not with delays in breathing and stabbing/slashing.
I did like the movie but the part with the doctor (you know what I’m talking about)...I was like wtf. The last ten minutes made the movie sooo worth it also.
I'm a fan of the original Halloween but I honestly don't know if I'm going to like this, the idea of Michael Myers doing nothing for 40 years just doesn't sit well with me.
Alex Mansfield Thedarknate08 whens the last time he waited 40 years? Most he waited was 20 in H20. I mean it's 40 years, you're telling me Michael didn't have a single opportunity to escape since then?
OogyBoogyMan not that good, he still escaped after 40 years. So what they had good security for 40 years and then they just forgot to bother during a change over?
I literally have no opinion about the movie since i never watched it but just in terms of energy, I really appreciate Jeremy's review. The last couple of Chris's reviews felt so depressing, attitude and mood wise which is disappointing because i tended to prefer chris's reviews more.
If you prefer honestly and authenticity Chris is the best. I always feel like Jeremy's reviews are a performance. He reviews movies honestly but I don't particularly enjoy his shtick.
Don't waste your money on the film, it was awful, nearly as bad as Zombies debacle.. Don't watch the Nun either as it's just as bad.. The film lacks characters and you will not warm to any of them.. The plot is mind blowingly stupid and you will feel like you've just wasted valuable minutes of your life after viewing it that you'll never get back again.. I was so disappointed by it and I can't understand why a lot of the critics are giving it a thumbs up.. This film is just as bad as Rob Zombies debacle of a movie.. The franchise is destroyed now so they should end it after this film in my opinion..
I loved this movie so much! I thought it was pretty much perfect. If anything, I didn't want it to end haha. Every time Michael is shown in the movie is absolute beauty and horror. It was fantastic. The people involved in this movie should rightfully be very very proud.
Oh also, are you going to do a review of Haunting of Hill House? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. I've already watched the whole series twice and loved it.
@@Aldo_The_Apache76 in my perspectives, with the amount of blood & heavy theme of survival, it feel lika a slasher survival horror movie to me. Like those zombie movies/tv shows or Halloween or Jason or Alien or Predator or vampire stuffs, some are horror but nowhere near what I think scary as those kinda thing is quite subjective (hell, most of the so called "horror" ain't scary to most people).
Saw this and it was great and Yes finally we are seeing more horror movies that are not full of jumpscares ! I think this movie only had like 3. Not a lot of music, just atmospheric sounds like trees and what not. This is how you make a horror movie right Fuck the nun, fuck hell fest
