I much prefer H20 as a "where is she now" sequel. I liked how Laurie was still traumatised but functional and not a barking lunatic like in the 2018 timeline. Her "I've had enough of this shit" moment in H20 was really well done IMO.

@@mercenaryknight5419 It's not just that she was vindicated later in the film which resonates with me... I think people are being obtuse when they say that "only" one movie and five dead bodies isn't enough to cause her to be like this, because I *don't* think that it's "just" her friends being murdered: she witnessed the supernatural and had it confirmed beyond any reasonable doubt that there are magical/inhuman/demonic/whatever beings in existence. Hell, there are people who convert to a religion based on surviving a car accident or losing a child or something. I'd buy a fucking arsenal if I even *saw* something that walked off six close-range gunshot wounds.

naahhhh nah nah nah, there's a difference between Michael letting someone live and not killing them. He still fights Busta Rhymes at the end but gets electrocuted and burnt which in turn leaves Busta Rhymes alive. Michael literally floated around those windows staring at LL Cool J and went... ahhhh... I'll just stick to lourie. And LL Cool J only gets injured when Louries salt and pepper boyfriend shoots at him, thinking its Michael. Michael Loves Cool James.

@@cordzfx nahhhhhhhhhhhh he only reluctantly fights Busta cuz Busta comes at him to kung fu his ass. maybe it BROKE michaels heart when he had to defend himself against Busta Rhymes. It’s actually a tragic character arc edit; he loves Cool Jimmy, and he respects Busta Rhymes.

I used to think that the reason they left the capture of Michael in 1978 so ambiguous in Halloween 2018 was so that they could reveal in Kills through a flashback that after Loomis shot Michael 6 times and he escapes, he ends up murdering a lot more people before he gets captured by cops. By adding more to Michael’s body count during the events of 1978, it would’ve made more sense why the town is so afraid of him and why his actions still haunt them because let’s be honest, without the sequels, all Michael Myers did was murder 3 people during 1978 and then get imprisoned for 40 years. Adding more kills during the flashback would’ve made the town being afraid of him more believable.
@christianc.christian5025
@christianc.christian5025 2 года назад
But even with "only" six murders to his name when recaptured in 1978, a *lot* of people seem pretty convinced (or at least uncertain) of him being more than just a human being. He also returned once already from 1963 too, so showing up, killing a tow truck driver on his way back to Haddonfield, killing three random girls, getting stabbed and shot a ton before then overpowering and killing a cop in his home later that night is a pretty massive story... Even with Hawkins saying McCabe shot himself, Michael still killed him. And would be charged with that death too: you can't just strangle someone nearly to death and then, use them as a human shield and say "Well, I technically didn't kill him!" The fact that he did all of this after getting plugged at close range by Loomis is pretty remarkable and all of the cops - plus Laurie, Loomis, Tommy, Lonnie, Lindsey, etc. would know about it.

@@christianc.christian5025 I mean hearing he got shot 6 times then got up and disappeared only to kill some more the same night would also scare some people for a long ass time too. I really liked the flash backs to the new one and I quite enjoyed the film over all some of it was weird but I still see it as just a filler until the 3rd and I do understand that it doesn't work as a standalone film which is its biggest problem. I'm still okay with looking past it as long as the 3rd one pulls magic out of its ass

Instead, they had him go home and hang out, choke a cop, watch that cop get shot by another cop, walk away, surrender to the police, and the only reason why he wasn’t executed by the legendary Dr. Loomis was because Loomis’ arm got slapped away by the cop who felt remorse for this killer who was just choking his bleeding out partner…

I unironically prefer the OG sequels, the second one introduces a lot of dumb stuff, but Michael Myers still feels alright and it's done in a component way, the rest of the sequels are fun shlock although Donald Pleasence really carries it with his Dr. Loomis who gets more obsessed and crazier with each film.

One thing people don’t seem to mention , where any fan that watched the original a million times and knows every little detail, is why am I the only one questioning how bully Lonnie Elam, goes from being a bully but had friends, where I’m guessing he was one of the”cool crowd” in 6th grade who he and his friend did what most kids our age do on Halloween which is Halloween pranks and daring things like wanting to check out the Myers house in the original? But his character may be wearing the same clothes but is a little bit on the nerdy side, where you can’t imagine this dweeb bullying tommy or anyone else. He’s also out trick r treating at the time of night, is just weird, as if he didn’t have enough fun already and got tired and went to bed. So he goes from popular kid to nerd in this new film, and with no explanation as to why? He even gets bullied by two girls and their brother. Only thing I can think of is because now they want to bring this unnecessary forgettable character back to show he grew up to become an awesome dad to his son who was the biggest douchebag of all in 2018, but is now this noble heroic guy, who may as well pledge his life to Alison, as he is more on a mission to kill Michael more than she is. But, I think they’re not stupid enough to have us believing he became courageous and good a couple hours later, after showing his brutal death scene where I’m sure fans only laughed when he seems him as he’s walking down the stairs and wants to make sure he’s definitely dead by twisting his neck . So any theories as to why the change character of Lonnie or even Whatever his name was?

I sometimes think about how the internet and online fanbases have low key kind of ruined franchises and reboots. Because fan backlash and social media can pretty much dictate what’s acceptable for a property, companies are absolutely terrified of taking any risks or playing with the established ideas in a given franchise. Say what you will about Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 but going back and watching it was an absolute joy compared to Halloween Kills. While a lot of people didn’t think the film was faithful to the franchise at least it was doing its own thing. Instead we now have franchises like Star Wars and Halloween that are so scared of fan backlash or trying something that isn’t considered appropriate that the result is just sterile, self referential nothing. Really hope companies see the benefit of letting creators off the lead again.

In my opinion, It's nothing more than a glorified fan film with a budget. Just for one example, the "Hey Michael, it's Halloween. Everyone's entitled to one good scare" line from Brackett when the mob is surrounding Michael towards the end is just horrendous and is something you'd see in a fan film. How about we give Charles Cyphers some realistic dialogue, maybe just one emotional plea to Tommy to hunt down the bastard that killed his daughter. Instead we get "EVIL DIES TONIGHT!!" It's just very lazily written. Dependent on repeated lines and terminology from previous films in the franchise including Halloween 2018. I cringed so hard when Karen gives an encore of "gotcha". I said to myself "Oh god no" I truly wanted to enjoy this film and while there are some aspects of it that I did enjoy, for a big budget Halloween movie it should bring something new and interesting. It instead focuses on nostalgia trips, unnatural dialogue and chants. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and if you enjoyed it, that's awesome. But I think that any true fan of this franchise would expect something better than what we got, especially waiting an extra year, and I think that the writers should be pretty embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.

They realise how iconic he is and that’s why they are expecting people to know. And about him being a monster you can’t deny that the guy is genuinely beyond human. The guy is literally the human embodiment of evil. There’s no way that Michael Myers at the age of 63!! Is able to kill over 30 people in one night that’s not even including the people in the 2018 movie.

It's a classic example of trying to have your cake and eat it too. They want to make something "original" that continues purely from the first movie, but also want the easy setup that comes from things established in the others. The result is a reboot that really feels like it would make far more sense if it actually took place in the same timeline as one of the other sequel paths. Say what you want about the Rob Zombie movies, but at least he both tried to actually do something different and wrote the characters to behave based on what happened in their story instead of acting like they'd experienced the entire franchise. They had plenty of callbacks to the series and recreations of things from the first film, but for better or worse they at least felt like Zombie was trying to tell his own version of the Halloween story instead of just saying "Hey, remember the first movie? Wasn't that great?"

To have to second movie included it would at least make Lori's fear of Micheal make more sense since she knows if he ever escapes he'd come for her. For whatever reason they cut Halloween 2 out and it's almost like the writers forgot that in universe Micheal Myers wouldn't be that big of a deal at this point.

I 100% believe they could have included the events of H2 but ret-conned the family relationship. Maybe that nurse was wrong, it happens. She was even in this movie, she could have admitted to being wrong her damn self. It's a very easy thing to fix, and with that movie I think something like 15 people died that night? With one simple change this movie could have worked so much better.

I'm so glad someone else noticed all of this. I remember sitting in the theatre with most of the same thoughts. "He didn't kill THAT many people the first time, why is everyone so crazed?" "How many times are they gonna repeat themselves in a row?" "ANOTHER flashback?!" "Is there a reason I should care about these people being killed? They're all idiots and I know nothing about them." I did enjoy a lot of the ideas and visuals they presented and tried to work with. Showing legacy characters, the idea that Micheal has the side effect of scaring people when he isn't around is very Boogeyman-esque. But when the entire rest of the movie is nothing but exposition with Micheal killing someone just to meet a quota it overshadows a lot of it.

One thing that viewers gloss over with this movie is over why anyone else would be caring about Michael in any way if he's killed 5 people. You have to remember Haddonfield is a small-town area, and Michael has carried urban legend status since 1963, and reinvigorated that fear of his legend with the night of '78. The mob is mainly consisted of residents who know of Myers and younger or newer residents bandwagoning mob mentality, which is something that does happen.

In defense of the movie, they can’t really do anything “different” cause it wouldn’t work for the character, you can’t have Michael all of a sudden do something he wouldn’t cause the fans would tear it apart, remember Rob Zombie tried that and it didn’t work out, it was dumb. Michael is the kind of character that you get what you see it’s nothing more or nothing less, that’s why fans love him, his slow methodical pace and unknown feeling to him is what makes him interesting. We should never know for sure why he kills, or if he is supernatural or not, if would ruin him.

10:13 these movies are 10x more interesting if Halloween II was canon, from Laurie’s understanding of what MM is after dealing with him in the hospital, to Loomis going out like a hero, to the “trauma is hereditary” theme taking on multiple meanings. Also, a lot of the “games” that MM plays is textbook sadism, and we see him analyzing his own murders in a curious way in the original movie - which means there’s absolute intention with what he’s doing. He’s getting off on what he’s doing. They can go somewhere with that instead of just keeping him a symbol/force from the original. Once MM survives 6 bullets - all bets are off. You’ve gotta deal with it somehow. Also, the flashbacks set up Loomis trying to shoot MM in the head and he’s stopped. So why didn’t they show the mob….shoot MM in the head? They would have looked like they really tried, Hawkins would be freed of all guilt, and MM getting back up would have been an even bigger holy sh*t moment.

Just a personal gripe, I suppose, but it confounds me that this reboot series ALSO ignores H2. I know Carpenter said he hated doing H2, but it's since been revered as a worthy sequel and was even widely appreciated upon its release back in 1981. If they wanted to do away with the whole Cult/Curse of Thorn stuff, fine (I guess?), but why dump H2 as well? Because it ended with Michael blown-up and on fire? Even that was addressed in a deleted scene in H4. The guy obviously has supernatural elements to him, so recovering from being roasted isn't all that far-fetched. It would even nicely go along with him surviving the fire that consumed Laurie's home in H2018. Arrgggh. I hate all this trashing of history simply because it doesn't align with modern-day values and sensibilities, or because filmmakers just want to take things in a "different direction". I just hate it.

The problem with the trilogy is the directors/writers constantly mentioning elements of the sequels they dislike... while using them anyway, or just flat-out pissing on their graves at times. -Tommy dying the same way he beat Michael in Halloween 6. -Marion just being there, why the hell does she live in Haddonfield and know everyone? -Brackett just being there to make a nostalgia quote (and using footage from Halloween 2 lol). -Lonnie just being there to die doing the thing he was scared to do as a child. -Lindsey randomly looking like she got the shit beat out of her when she was found. -Only two people in town have a gun (can thank JLC suddenly being anti-gun for that). -Alyson taking her sweet time to get to her boyfriend 3 feet away, and missing with her shotgun at close range. -Michael killing 12 or so people at once: John Wick Style, said people suddenly only attacking him one at a time. -Loomis letting Michael live because a rookie cop said so. -Hawkins surviving getting stabbed in the neck and run over. -Everyone repeating Loomis' lines, and ruining it. -The police doing nothing. -The stupid nurse. -The wife unlocking the door to escape Michael then just standing there making noise as he walks through the kitchen to her. -Michael suddenly getting back in his house and killing Karen, despite the police and Alyson being right there. -Laurie in H20 had an excuse for being an extremist, Laurie in H2018 doesn't have an excuse to be even more extreme, or why she thinks she's Michael's target, when nothing in this trilogy supports that, especially 40 years later. -Michael being supernatural and superhuman again, despite the directions saying he'd be just like he was in the original. -40 years of trauma yet nobody knows what Michael looks like? Speaking of retcons, if it weren't for John Carpenter stepping in, H2018 would have opened with Michael killing Loomis and Laurie being the one to shoot him 6 times off the balcony.

Halloween 3 has an amazing soundtrack and yeah, I give it immediate points for doing something different and original. Going from a Psychotic slasher with the ending of 1, to a wealthy psycho who wants to celebrate Halloween Celtic Pagan style by sacrificing thousands to millions of children that would make Freddy Krueger envious. I always challenge people when they say movies “shouldn’t have been made” especially when the MCU pumps out the same basic story with similar characters 32 times a year. Horror doesn’t get any respect. We don’t need 3 different Spider-Men within a decade, but nobody is writing them off as things that should never have been made. But the Halloween franchise found targets to feed to Michael to justify sequels. Halloween found things for Dr Loomis to do. We have had several sequels that were their own entity - not a constant retelling of the original movie and playing it safe. They managed to introduce characters late in the game that have become fan favorites. They did a good job for the most part in hindsight and it’s a shame that the 2018 trilogy media machine has conditioned fans to disregard all of them as not worthy while then stealing ideas from all the erased sequels to fuel these new ones.

You know what would have been new and interesting? Explaining why Michael is seemingly a supernaturally unstoppable killer. He's practically Jason Vorhees at this point. And if it's going to be the last film why not wrap it up. So if they're going to tie in Season of the witch with the Silver shamrock masks why not make them legit. Further more, the main villains face looks like Michael Myers mask after he gets zapped. Imagine if that actually was Myers mask and it somehow either cursed him to be a psycho killer, or drew him to it because he was already psycho and made him unstoppable. Imagine if his victims were actually sacrifices like the kids with the silver shamrock masks. That's just my fan theory but it would definitely breath new life into the franchise. Die hard fans may bitch about character assassination but let's face it. It's already fucked at this point. May as well go in balls deep with the lore rather than padding with exposition filler.

My favorite part of the first Halloween is when Michael is stalking Laurie throughout. He follows her to school, he follows her home, he watches her through her bedroom window. That’s not a mindless killer, that’s a creep who has motivation. His motivation is to stalk this specific girl and later kill her and he kills her friends along the way. We don’t know why he’s fixated on Laurie, we just know that he is. It’s so creepy. I want more of that in a Halloween movie. I want more of Michael Myers being a creepy obsesses weirdo stalking people around town. There’s a bit of that in this movie with the little kids. He stalks them and pops out from behind trees to be a creep. The kids tell us this, but we don’t get to see it. I want to see that! I liked this movie well enough because I like to see him kill people, but Halloween needs more stalking. I really liked the scene where he stabs the old man in the back over and over. I want to see whatever that was explored more. And more stalking.

Agreed. The Shape is actually quite particular in the original. Teenage schoolgirls seems to be his preferred victims. Possibly they remind him of Judith and he gets a buzz, a thrill from reliving that night in 1963.

There's some pretty strong evidence that Annie was Michael's actual target. Considering that he's a psychosexual deviant, Michael is drawn to women who are sexually active. So, Laurie got his attention on the porch and accidently leads him to her friends. He stalks them to determine who he "likes" the most. Annie is chosen, so she is killed first and she is placed on the shrine of his sister. (Laurie is the final girl because Michael liked her the least lol)

I absolutely hated Tommy Doyle in this movie And what the hell was Cameron even talking about with HIS family being infected?!!! Literally nobody was in danger from his family and he didn’t get stuck dealing with trauma

Watching the part where he gets up to speak to the crowd kind of ruined it for me or at least made me roll my eyes. Everybody kept bringing up the events of the first that it just felt repetitive and was like "I had this experience with Michael" "I also had an experience with him" etc. and for him to do that during what was it a talent show or contest felt just odd.

@BK Beatty makes me wonder if Tommy Doyle does this like every year or brings it up a lot. Like I survived Michael Meyers and the townspeople just let him talk

I actually liked this movie and thought it was really stupid when they tried to say his motivation isn’t Laurie. And also I understood but didn’t like the mob that formed to try and take him down. If they would’ve either alluded to him breaking out before or waited a day or year to the next Halloween so that people would be aware that he was alive and killing still I think the mob would’ve made more sense. As it stood they barely knew anything about him so the amount of explaining from characters who aren’t as close to him as Laurie was weird. Main reason I liked it was because Loomis and I loved the kills honestly. Halfway through the movie (went into it not knowing a third movie was coming also) I told my girl “I hope Michael kills everybody” cause of where I seen them going with the story lol.

The town thinking it's michael turns it into a comedy because they are so paranoid over a guy that just committed a crime that's pretty average in terms of brutality.

I would honestly love a re cut version of Halloween Kills. Like the 2018 movie, a recut could provide a decent movie. Cut it down to a quick 1h 30 instead of 2+ hours. Keep everything with Michael but erase the patient subplot. And cut down the beginning bar scene.

Once ENDS comes out, one could presumably make a sweet cut combining all 3 films into one. Or he’ll, go a step further and make a cohesive trilogy using footage from every Halloween film to date.

Could be because there were 3 writers, they all took turns on the script, and wrote 3 different stories. It sounds like someone came up with an idea, and no one challenged it, everyone had to get their parts in.

Ya know, fan service is a funny thing with modern hollywood movies these days. Earlier this week, I watched a classic Film Noir film from the 1940's called "Kiss of Death" and one of the earlier scenes of the movie was basically the same setup as another John Carpenter classic film "Escape From New York". Because young people today refuse to watch older movies, they're missing out when hollywood used to "remake" movies by tipping the hat to these older films, rather than constantly referencing and re-using them with "soft reboots".

I'm calling it now. In Halloween Ends, Michael Myers will remove his mask one more time for the camera. Then he'll say a word so we're meant to sympathize with him despite his incredulous murder spree across four decades and four separate film timelines. Basically Halloween H20 again, but with an added trick. Give it about five years and some other director will want to reboot the damn thing. I was watching Halloween 3 a few nights ago and kept thinking what a good idea an anthology would have been for this series. Such a missed opportunity.

As Redlettermedia said, the whole movie feels like It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World with a Halloween coat of paint. Just a mob of insane idiots running around like decapitated chickens. Just replace the money they're chasing after with a serial killer instead and you get Halloween Kills.

Guess I stand alone, but I love these new Halloween movies! This new Michael seems truly intimidating. He is more "scary" but still seems like the same Michael. Versus Rob Zombie's 'Michael' who was terrifying, but seemed like he wasn't even related to "Halloween" at all. Almost as of Rob Zombie should have just made his own slasher film separate from Michael Myers. I think what dissapointmented me the most was the nurse/doctor couple was not what I was expecting them to be in my head. LOL. I remember when I saw them in Halloween 2018, and i originally thought maybe they were the parents of the little boy that was being babysat. I was kind of hoping the writers what have made that connection. I also did not understand why they were basically the only ppl dressed up in that bar. I thought they were going to a bomb ass Halloween party.
@freaknr1

I think Michael himself is brilliant in the new films, but everything else is either sub-par or terrible. In 2018 it was ok, but the flaws where already there, and in this one, Michael's scenes where the only thing that got me through it. It's good that someone found enjoyment from them, but I don't think I'll pay to see Halloween Ends.

I actually think the nurse Couple character being the parents to the little boy would make their characters more interesting and involved in the story. I actually thought the same as you about them. It would be a cool aspect because Micheal killed three houses in a row in the neighborhood making his motive seemed a bit more he’s just looking for blood

I don’t mind a nice long slasher franchise with a lot of sequels, and I don’t mind seeing different interpretations of the same character. Some of the Halloween sequels I’ve grown to really love, even the ones that are panned (Halloween 6 ❤️) and slasher killers are the comic book heroes of horror, and nobody complains when we get 3-4 Spider-Man and Batman reboots every decade and a half and talk about how none of them should have been made. So I’ve always had a chip on my shoulder about how horror is treated in general, but also how the default treatment is always disrespect, from fans and critics alike. That being said, HK is a parody. It feels like they made a computer watch all of the Halloween movies and then had it print out a movie script. And they’ve spent the last few years conditioning the fan base to forget about all the other “nonsense” sequels leading up to Halloween 2018 but now they’re using fan knowledge of those now erased movies to help fill in major blanks in their new movie. Combine that with hyperbolic, Loomis dialogue given to almost every character in the movie, claiming MM is human and then turning him into something even more supernatural than most Conjuring demons, and completely misrepresenting the Haddonfield and the MM legacy created in the 2018 movie and you have an extremely messy middle movie void of character development or proper planning for any of the characters who are actually making it to the final movie. This must be how Star Wars fans felt. And their justification for constantly revisiting the “old story” of Halloween 1978 was to establish this “staring out of Judith’s bedroom window” thing that they’re shoehorning into this trilogy because that’s their explanation for MM. And they’re working on making this mask some kind of special upgrade thing even though he clearly stole it from a department store and it only exists to hide his face in the original movie. You know - at least the Cult of Thorn was a way to tackle all the crazy stuff that Halloween 5 included and those were the days before retconning and starting over. Many didn’t like the direction, but at least they picked a lane and went all the way with it. There’s something respectable about that.

I mean in this movies defense it’s from every other characters perspective that night and it was also the 40th anniversary of the events so it would make sense that it’s all they are talking about.
