Josh Lawson (Kano) unfortunetly couldnt make the premiere screening of MK2021. Apparently he suffered a severe shoulder injury due to carrying the entire movie.
The dumbest thing the marketing did was spoil the outcome of nearly every major fight in the final trailer, the main reason most people would be seeing the film. Then the directors lied to the fans when they said the trailers were just a small part of the fights in the film, which was total BS.
What's more the fights (and music) are not even this film's selling point! That's insane, a fighting game based film has forgettable fight scenes!? First thing that comes into your head when the 1995 film is mentioned are fights and music then everything else! When MK 2021 is mentioned, you think - oh yeah Kano! You think about fight scenes and music in this film only when asking yourself what's missing from it.
For me, the biggest issue was making the main character Cole, I thought Cole was a very boring character and he has one of the dumbest powers I've ever seen in mortal kombat. It would have benefited from having Johnny Cage cause he's at least a fun character.
They gave the guy literal plot armor. The tattoos being a source of their powers was stupid. A MMA fighter with a losing record is the hero? Kole Young was to Mortal Kombat what Alice was to Resident Evil. Making him the hero was a Bad call. They should have killed him off introduced Johnny Cage and kept Kung Lao. I would have just followed the plot of one of the games. Raco was really bad. He look mentality retarded. Jax manifesting robot arms was just wrong. Sonia should have been crushed by the statue that collapsed on her. This movie was a huge waste of potential. Kano was awesome. He saved the film. Without him it would have been unwatchable. I could go on, but it was entertaining enough to give me hope that the next time they make a Mortal Kombat movie it will be good. I think they need Ed Boon to direct and use writers from the games.
@@jasonvoorhees1316 I absolutely agree with the last bit, cause even the story of everyone's least favorite Mortal kombat game is still pretty good, I'm really hoping they learn from their mistakes cause the pieces are there, they're just not in the right places
They didn't want johnny cage because they hate white men. Literally. They said they didn't want a white male good guy in the film because white people are disgusting and racist, so they made up Cole to replace him. They added the scene at the end hinting at cage for a sequel because test audiences where like "wtf, wheres johnny??""
Comparing Raid to Mortal Kombat is a bit unfair. The Raid films were made by a filmmaker who wanted to make a movie. The Mortal Kombat films were made by studio execs who want money.
@@EndoScorpion Yes, the first Suicide Squad was fucked up in similar way. David Ayer had his vision, then execs said " put more humor here" and the result was movie which was not good in anything.
@@Endru85x It happened to all Zack Snyder's stuff too. They made him do Superman with a smiliar tone to the Nolan Batman movies. Then they forced him to introduce Batman, rather than doing a MoS2, because they thought Batman would sell better. And then just look at what they did with Josstice League.
The first 15 was an actual movie like "wow they about to flip the whole video game adaptions outlook then...rest of the script said in big bold letters "Fan Service"
I still have no idea the relationship of the main dude and the ladies. Is it his sister or daughter is the other lady his wife or mom? The age between them all seemed weird and there was zero chemistry
You made a joke about James Wan directing MK, but I legit agree. The insane police station and jail cell sequence in Malignant were better than 80% of the fights in MK.
@@klaatunecktie7906 What is sad about Mk 2021 they hired talented people...and yet they failed. Mk 1995 was directed by guy with no experience in action cinema, he had rather small budget...and he gave us a memorable film with great soundtrack, scenography and actors who defined Raiden, Shang Tsung, Liu Kang for me :)
Speaking of The Raid. . . for the cost of Mortal Kombat, you could make The Raid, 1 and 2, 25 times, and still have money left over for a massive cocaine yacht party.
Anyone talking shit about budget should know that Mk 95 was made with small budget and director had no experience in martial arts cinema. MCU movies, with all their moneys still give us a lot of awful CGI, boring final fights, with shaky editing etc. Fortunately,Shang Chi is better than this so its, not just about the money but who used them in creative way.
@@Endru85x "It's not just about the money but who used them in creative way." I assure you that was my sentiment, and I was talking about the 2021 Mortal Kombat. MK 95 indeed used it's budget better than this new one, and was worlds ahead in the creativity department for sure. Cheers.
@@SewerTapes that was my intent too, maybe did not put it well enough in words. MK 2021 wasted every opportunity to be great. Mk 95 did as much as it was possible for people making it. It holds nicely, MK 2021 will be forgotten quickly, maybe with exception of all reviews and rants explaining why it sucked.
This movie was such a big nothing. As a big MK fan I felt nothing but boredom and like I was wasting my time. Like you said, that 1995 film is cheesy and should be somewhat more violent but that film is such a good time I forget it’s PG-13 and just have a wonderful time. The games have this storytelling Trouble recently too. Gets things right but gets way more wrong. Scorpions revenge was a fun watch, moved kinda fast but I enjoyed it. Battle of the Relms moved way to fast for me though. Good to see you once again. Always nice to hear your thoughts.
I actually enjoyed it(I think the nostalgia got me in my feelings)☺I've been playing MK for a while myself and I cried the first time I played with my kid. I cried when he invited me to the midnight release to get MK X. I was able to hold back the tears when we pre ordered MK 11, but that didn't last long🤣🤣I still have my VHS copies of the movies and remember watching them constantly. This movie felt like a little wink at the old heads, but it seemed exciting enough for someone not familiar with the game, too.
Odd since the 95 movie Shang Tsung and Raiden were the best characters in the movie. Lambert and Tagawa were both amazing in the original MK movie. The two in the 21 movie were so bland and forgettable.
It's amazing, LITERALLY AMAZING, that this film had its fans and hopefuls. You'd think no video game movie ever sucked. I called it though and I was right.
I remember Sub Zero and Scorpion being huge characters in my childhood... It's a shame to see they were only promotion material... Great video Cordery! Think I might binge on some Mortal Kombat lore now that you've brought this up
Well, in the story of the games they’re just background characters and promotional material, probably because they’re mascots, hell scorpion barely appears in scorpion’s revenge
They may not be the focus of the games, but their arcs are still fun to follow. Especially in the original timeline. What these adaptions (including the animated ones) have done to these two characters is just outright appaulling.
It’s funny that the only good parts of the movie are the beginning and the end, the costumes, Josh Lawson’s Kano, Hiroyuki Sanada’s Scorpion, and Joe Taslim’s Sub-Zero. Everything else is forgettable, even the main character, who’s a block of wood.
Goro was terrible in this one. Many of my family asked me why a WoW orc was in Mortal Kombat. It wasn't just him being CGI, the face was entirely wrong.
Greatly summed it up. Something was off with his face and could not find a word. Old Goro was waaay better, just like original Thing was more scary than CGI bullshit we got in this 2011 prequel or whatever it was.
@@Endru85x have you seen the behind the scenes footage released by the practical fx team, for the 2011 Thing? It's a shame the studio forced the garbage cgi. The practical effects looked amazing.
Last year's animated film made good use of the R rating with all the cheesy gore the games are known for and 3 F-bombs. I enjoyed Scorpion's Revenge but it is hard to make a tournament-style game into a good linear narrative for a movie. I'm American BTW.
It seems that you hadn't watched Battle of the Realms, the Scorpion Revenge sequel, is a very good sequels, is everything that this movie is not, and actually close the arc of Scorpion, ending the cycle of revenge.
@@pip5528 You should watch Battle of the Realms, is like the original movie with a mix of "buddy cop" between Scorpion and the brother of Subzero, at first they really not get along, Subzero want to kill Scorpion for killing his brother, but in the end they end working together, even that they effort are futile when they fight against a literal god, thankfully the Elder Gods granted that power to Liu Kang for being the victor of the tournament, the ending is similar to Annihilation but way more brutal and less stupid.
the problem with mortal kombat as a film is not that it is a tournament fighter. the problem is that the story is an afterthought, ed boon just came up with some characters by ripping off big trouble in little china, bruce lee and jean claude van damme. some of them have a backstory, but it originally didn't have much to do with the other characters. when they take all of this and put it all together, only garbage comes out. it won't matter how many times you make jax and sonia hunt down kano. it's always going to be stupid. they are early 90s bad movie tropes. all thrown in a blender.
likewise it won't matter how many times raiden chooses a clueless movie star as defender of the realm, it will always be stupid. the whole concept of 1vs1 fighting to decide the fate of a universe. is dumb. the fact that shao kahn can be defeated by a baseline human, when he is an interdimensional superhuman, is dumb. it doesn't matter how many times you see the other realms, it will still be dumb that quan chi or shinnok are in charge instead of cheering up children in their clown makeup. it's all remarkably stupid. the real mortal kombat movie is called big trouble in little china.
I feel like a lot of ppl would disagree with me on this but one minor detail which bugged me when watching this was how Sub Zero’s mask piece just looked too big for his face. I get that it was probably made that way so that the actor could be more comfortable/breathe better, but the size and loose fitting just made his face look fat the entire time. I reckon that if they shrunk it a bit and allowed it to hug his face more, his jaw would look more defined and it would be a much better fit.
I've been lobbying for a James Wan Power Rangers film ever since I saw the fight scenes in Aquaman that basically went full rubber suit tokusatsu whenever it wasn't giant cgi battles. But yeah. I guess he could make a kick ass Mortal Kombat as well.
The main actor was so bland that I felt like I was watching a Tommy Wiseau if he was on anti-depressants and took up an addiction to mood blocking pills
@@viscountrainbows6452 for real man has no personality what so ever I've seen better emotion being shown from p(0)rn actors and that's not a cap that's the actual truth at least for me it is
Mortal Kombat didn't even show Mortal Kombat. The whole film and all the fights were pre-tournament. It was so annoying that the film never actually went to Mortal Kombat.
The most hearbreaking thing was not seeing anyone fall into the pit from a overcharged uppercut and it was tragic seeing that Jax was right there with his strong arms, the perfect candidate and he didn't do it.
when i saw this in theaters, there were kids with grandparents, lots of singles etc, right after the goro scene half the people walked out, one guy was like fuck this movie......even the employees when the movie was over was like hey that movie sucked didn't it
I agree with all your thoughts. It had alot of Good, but then alot of head-scratching choices as well... "Horror" SubZero was absolutely awesome. Would love to see him come back in a sequel as Noob Saibot.
You gotta be one of the funniest RU-vid "reaction" guys I've seen/herd, love your perspective and your humour, probably biased also since I'm a 90's kid but man.
I'll say this till the end of time: GARETH EVANS (Director of THE RAID movies) should have written and directed MORTAL KOMBAT (2021)... Such a wasted opportunity.
Ok I had to stop in the middle of this video to comment... You just got a new subscriber as soon as I saw the Orgasmo scene.... I still yell KYOOOOO to this day. Thank you for making my week.
Yeah, the Raid movies are very well done, and the fight scenes are brutal, and never seen such brutal fight scenes since the Ip Man movies, but at difference from them, this movie not shy away from blood, at lot, a lot of blood. It made remember the movie from Jet Lee, The Dragon Kiss, with similar choreography, that is a french movie that come out in the 90'.
Kabal is literally just if Mandalorian talked like Deadpool. Also for Annihilation, Cryax had the most epic 90s back flip ever when Jax chucks the table at him.
Our thoughts on this stuff are basically twins 😆. Especially wanting more better stuff for Mortal Kombat and Power Rangers movies. They easily have potential comparable to the MCU and DCEU.
There is this trend that has been established the past decades of trying to take a franchise that was meant to have children or teenagers as an audience and try to make it serious and grounded to reality. And it simply cannot be done. Thats why the 1st MK movie was successful. It didnt pretend to be anything more than what its supposed to be. Also quite interesting, even though the story of MK is silly and superficial, the production of the first MK was really serious when it came to casting the right actors (with perhaps the exception of Christoph Lampert who they got just to include a famous actor in the movie). So not pretentious but made with love is what I am getting at.
Sure, the bloody fatalities were clearly for children, were so brutal that Nintendo changed the colour of the blood from red to green, and the games only become more brutal since then, and even mocked the censure with Babylaties and the Friendshiplities.
@@TheKeyser94 The fatalities were exagurated and that made them funny, but out of the whole MK package the fatalities are perhaps the only aspect that COULD actually be grounded and made more realistic in a movie. What I meant, was you have a ridiculous premice of wizards and ninjas, cyborgs and hollywood actors that compete in a martial arts tournament to save the "earth realm"! That cannot be made into a serious movie. The best attempt I ve see so far is MK11. I was surpised by both the acting level and the script it had.
The movie should’ve been about The Great Kung laos defeat to Goro and the decendant taking revenge for his ancestor. The beginning of the film could’ve been like the mountain vs oberyn with Raiden witnessing The Great Kung laos brutal death, could’ve been the perfect setup for Mortal Kombat.
Cole was my biggest problem. Lewis Tan seems like a cool guy and can bring the martial arts but it should have been Liu Kang or even Johnny Cage as the lead. I have heard Cole will nor be as big of a presence in the sequel.
Casting Lewis Tan as a character that replaces Johnny is pointless anyways since Lewis is half-British. i.e. Cole could've just been Johnny Cage but half-Asian.
@@genericweeb7300 I thought that too, but I don't think Lewis would be a good Johnny Cage. Never know though of course. They supposedly didn't use him because they didn't want a white guy as the lead. Which shows how dense they are since Liu Kang is Chinese and the franchise poster boy.
I have no idea how anybody saw this film and genuinely enjoyed it. Pacing issues, long periods of absolutely nothing happening, and it went the completely wrong way with introducing a new character. The only person I knew who "liked" would have said he did even if it was just scorpion turning around and letting out a long wet fart for 90 mins.
I am terrified by amount of people defending this crap. They say something about nostalgia etc. and i reply - hey i grew up with both games and movies and i did not feel nothing watching Mk 2021. Absolute snoozefest with awful fights, characters, scenography. Only the beggining was promising, then it quickly went down the toilet.

@@Endru85x I think it's a lot of newbies who weren't even born when Mortal Kombat first came out and think it's all about fighting and gore. A lot of people have very low standards when it comes to videogame based movies and when it comes to Mortal Kombat, which would be insulting to me if I was the creator of the franchise.
Dude, I kept waiting for that old soundtrack to kick in and it never did.. It would have been a nostalgic blowout if the old music kicked in. The new music was like if someone who just got a keyboard tried to mimic the old soundtrack..lol
I feel like when it comes to these movies, they feel like they have to put as many characters as they can into them. I feel like if they'd treat them similarly to the Marvel movies, where different characters get their own films building up to a bigger film it'd work better. Have A 8 movie set up. They'd have to make sure they got a set of writers who knew where the ending was going and how to get to that point. If we had something to build these characters for us, so when the one's we are rooting for die it has a real impact. I feel like making a one or two off only works because we know the games. It needs to assume we know absolutely nothing.
Honestly a high budget HBO series would’ve been such a better idea. Introduce characters in each episode follow their story for an hour each and the finale be the fights or something along those lines. 10 episodes of build up would be awesome. Sad how little energy and effort Hollywood puts into their product these days.
The point u made about this film soundtrack is exactly how i feel about the scores from their last 3 games. This basic ass superhero movie vibe and i haaaate it cuz they’ve done so much better.
Hey, love your videos, man, and I hope you keep pumping out more content regularly again. Just wanted to say that and also was wondering just wondering if you or anyone reading this could help me figure out what the name of the music is playing in the background during the runtime 20:07 - 23:00 of this video? Sorry for the random question. Just wouldn't mind adding that music to my playlist for work. 😅
This movie was such a big letdown. When I first saw the trailer, and was like " who the hell is cole?" I saw that during interviews the actor was saying stuff like "He's important to the MK World, and has a connection with another character" as soon as I saw that, I was like "Oh, he's a descendent of Scorpion... just what we need, an OC, instead of the MANY MK characters that could fit that role". IMO, They should have ditched Cole, and the whole Arcana crap. Made Johnny Cage as the audience stand-in. A washed-up actor, who is now doing pitty cage fights, Like Cole is. No connection to Scorpion, but Sub-Zero thinks he is connected to him, thus hunts him down, gets saved by Liu Kang. They go to pick up Sonya, who has Kano, Rest of the movie plays like it did, just with Jax getting arm enhancements, Kano getting a laser eye implanted when he swaps teams, and Sonya's Sonic Ring thing is just Tech she invented while training with the other warriors to put her self on the same level as the others with Fireballs, and Lasers and the like.
Johnny Cage is a parody of Jean Claude Van Damme, that why he is a wash up actor to arrogant and narcissist, but fight with literally outer beings, making humble.
All I remember about Funny People is Eric Bana geeking out over an Essendon Bombers match while Adam Sandler and Seth Rogan stare in confusion. Great film. Also the fact that they cast Chin Han as Shang Tsung and not Bi Han/Sub Zero peeved me like having a random spider web stuck to your face that you can't wipe off.
What sucks is that the 2017 MMPR movie made an okay profit, but sold a metric fuck-ton of merchandise that netted it another several million dollars. The sequel got the green-light and theeeeeeen... Nothing. And I absolutely loved that movie because they actually took time to build the world and the characters in a very well-done way for a movie based on a 90s kids show. I really hope MK gets a sequel. The word-of-mouth was decent, it made a decent profit in theaters and apparently did crazy big numbers via HBO Max. Give them another $20M, do the tournament, more fight scenes, and then set-up the outworld invasion for MK3 and MK4, with Khan getting bested in MK4.

Cole Young really ruined this movie for me, other than Scorpion appearing for two minutes, I have no problem with OC characters, when they are done right, but Young was a troupe, not a character, his power was literally power armour. It was so hard to keep the original characters and not add not bullshit boring OC character? Maybe that why they release Battle of the Realms, to fix the cluster fuck of the release of this movie.

Cole's character should've been Johnny Cage, played by a different actor and without wife and kid bs
In an early version of the script, the prologue depicted the spine fatality but it involved two gladiators in the Coliseum. It also had one character saying: "Toasty!"
I still like the 90s version better. I’ve since watched it a couple times and the 90s version holds up better. Sub zeros portrait wasn’t enough to hold a whole movie of lame acting. Scrap this and make a sub zero movie. Then you have something
So far I watched this, Terminator, and your Freddy video… I think you’re my long lost Aussie twin. The points you make are my thoughts personified on each property. However, I was really disappointed with this MK because of how much they hyped it up to be like the web series. With Power rangers though, I knew going in they were going to mess it up. They drastically changed the suits for no good reason. If something is already great; enhance it, don’t fucking change it! Your Freddy list is also something I agree with so much that it’s scary (haha). They need to sit down with people like me and you before they try to remake MK,PR, etc. Hell, we should shadow the director during filming to give real time feedback. Looking forward to watching your other videos, keep up the great work!

The worst The Suicide Squad had was King Shark ripping the soldier in half, which was in the trailer. Mortal Kombat had someone getting sawed in half, a heart getting ripped out, intestines spilling out, a head getting crushed with bare hands, and a hole in the chest showing a spinal cord. But The Suicide Squad was more gory?
"goddmn Pinocchio that's who" It took me 3 seconds to register, then I laughed really hard, at the joke, then at me saying internally "wait what?" To the joke.
Hey Cordery, I noticed you didn't say much about the quality of the writing in either MK film. Is your channel focused more on the effects and designs rather than writing in films?
I enjoyed this incredibly flawed film but the things it got right were great and the things it got wrong was bad. I like the fight scenes for the most part and the actors did a good job considering the material was fine but incredibly flawed. I would love to see sequels to this reboot series because this was a decent start for the most part. It’s funny how you mentioned James Wan because he was a producer on the film but I am glad he choose to make Malignant because that film was amazing.
I get that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if you liked it, thats great but people saying they like this movie, shows that people will LITERALLY ACCEPT ANYTHING as long as it has "MK" in the title and to me that is so sad because we will never get a good MK movie *IMHO* , because that's giving studios the sign they can do whatever they want and fans will bow down to it. 73% drop-off at the box office during its 2nd week would be a huge disagreement saying the material was fine. It wasn't. And when *ED BOON* doesn't even like the movie, you KNOW thats a problem and I wish I saw THIS interview that I'm linking next because had I seen this, I would have immediately knew not to waste my time and money on this rubbish. I didn't even know the movie was coming out till the trailer dropped and I'm a die-hard MK fan.... 2019 interview with Ed Boon and 4:45 of the video is what you're looking for. The script is HORRIBLE. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H2QJ7BdRdd4.html It was literally like a four year old wrote the movie and a commercial director directed it. Greg Russo is that four year old, and Simon Mcquoid is the commercial director. I literally was thinking "why TF did it feel like I just got done watching a 2 hr commercial?" And a couple days later after watching reviews of people absolutely thrashing this movie, I did some research that I wish I would have done before going, because it turned out that this movie WAS in fact done by a commercial director. It was so ironic, I thought the world was done because I couldn't even make this up. The movie was basically a commercial for Cole Young and not Mortal Kombat. When a studio (WB) hires the Wonder Woman 1984 writer (Greg Russo) and a commercial director to direct MK *as his 1st movie* , along with MANDATING they do a Resident Evil (making Alice aka Cole Young the main character over EVERYONE'S lifelong established fan favorites) in front of the arcs of OG characters, thats a sign the studio does not give a F about the source material nor the fans, and it 100% showed in the "final product" that was this travesty of an excuse for a Mortal Kombat movie. They should have titled it "Mortal Combat" and I probably would have liked it better knowing I was only getting a spoof of the real MK.
Movie damn sucked. It opened up making us think that Sub Zero and Scorpian were gonna be the primary focus but they barely had any screen time at all. The story felt like it went nowhere and just a setup for Johnney Cage in the sequel teaser at the end, but they should have just had him in the flick the whole time!!! Plus couldn't they get someone else to play Sheng Tsung?? I mean this actor looks like such a nice guy! The original was that same dude from Showdown in Little Tokyo. That guy just LOOKS super evil! And Lu Kang?? He was like a sweet little college boy! Dear Lord!
I honestly can not understand how they managed to make such a mediocre movie when the MK franchise has proven that it can deliver! The last video game of the franchise was a much more well made production than this movie, which felt as if hollywood funded an amateur group of MK fans. Casting was terrible for Liu Kang, Shang Chung, Reiko and ESPECIALLY Raiden! Outworld was literally a mining site with a giant Goro statue, Raiden's "temple" was another mining site, fights were taking places in completely boring sites including a parking garage building, outside a barn and (my personal favourite), in a kitchen and a bathroom !!???? The actor that played Kano was spot on, but god damn, did he talk too much! The MK quotes felt forced and it had too many 90's references and cringy humour... And somehow even though they showed gruesome fatalities, I didn't feel the fatalities added anything to the film... Honestly I feel the MK 11 game's plot, settings, character's facial likeness to the original games(with the exception of Raiden, Scorpion and Sheeva) and even the actor's performances, are far superior to this movie!
@CorderyFX thanks for this video on MK. I agree with you on many points. I bought the 4k UHD just for the first fight scene in flashback and the last fight scene between subzero and scorpion. I look forward to the following movie. It wasn't a bad movie and enjoyed it.
Sadly I have to say that the MK 2021 film is terrible. While there are cool effects and two good fights (scorpion/subzero) the writing in the film is absolute trash. Too many plot holes, some of which completely break the film. Sadly, even the animated MK movies suffer from the same problems, so I can't reccommend them unless you can turn off every brain cell in your body and clap at the pretty colors and blood/gore.
The Web series absolutely demolishes this. Liu Kang is channelling Captain Kirk. Lewis Tan looks too young, I thought that was his younger sister and he was kissing his Mom for a minute! The Arcana is a terrible waste of time and the Mileena vs Sonya fight was a slow God awful atrocity.
"Your ears painted on mate?" That cracked me up. Also I don't believe the original could ever be replaced. I remember skipping school sports with my mates to see it at the cinema and we loved it. It has that nostalgia factor. And it was released when MK was fresh and still unique. Plus as a 90s action movie it still holds up. I don't believe it could be replaced on the podium. Only share it.
I not know, the animated movies works, maybe because they added some layers to the characters but not changed the formula much, is still Mortal Kombat and non of the characters present is some new OC without personality, sure, they play into the nostalgia, but no much.
After watching this I'm donating my copy watched 1 time to the library down the road. Sad could have been sooo much better. Still got the original one on bluray.
Yeah, that's why I stated a special mention NOT for his portrayal of Kano, but for being an natural Aussie. I still think Trevor Goddard's Kano is superior portrayal, but I just had so much fun watching Josh Lawson being so many people I know.
I feel like here in Australia Kano's language isn't as much of a problem since we tend to throw around that kind of thing in casual conversation. It's insane that it got an R18+.
I have seen the raid and raid 2. A long time ago actually, great fight movies. You mentioned "get to the top of the building trope" in movies, don't forget the dredd remake, which was fucking awesome!
They should have left the outworld stuff off screen, keep us in the dark like the heroes. I doubt any of them apart from Raiden ever been there... Keep it & Tsung a mystery... Maybe expand on the journey to Raiden's temple. Maybe have them spied on & followed from distance by Kabal or someone, Mileena? Reiko? So there a reason for Tsung to know where they gone & a way to show off character without the cut aways. Also builds on the cat & mouse iniated by Subzero earlier in the film. (Apart from split second psychic flashes it not like we see Scorpion trudging through the Neather Realm) save the other dimensions for sequel when have more budget & less to establish.... Heck use the time to build up some of the weaker character's.
