Here’s a fun fact: In this movie, the Chief is two years younger than the cadets he was saving.

John 117 achieved the rank of Master Chief petty officer at 18 years old about 9-10 months before the events shown, all of the students he is saving are 21-22y/o officer candidates. So while they may be older than him John is in charge at this point in time. But later on in life, even though they outrank Master Chief they never forgot what he did, as shown by how Commander Laskey treats MC in the events of Halo 4.

I really like the moment with the ODSTs dropping in and the cadets panicking because of it. ODSTs are deployed by drops behind enemy lines, so that tells a lot about what the situation around them is. ODSTs are also known as Helljumpers, for jumping feet first into Hell. If you see them dropping in your area, it means you are already in hell.

yep. And to know that there likely wasnt any active covenant on the ground yet, you know that the improper use of the ODSTs is a bad sign. Whatever ship they came from knew it was about to blow and sent as many troops to be used on the ground as possible, to give them and the cadets a bit more of a chance. to know it wasnt enough, and to know that the entire UNSC force there was basically in a trap the entire time just raises that level of fear.

yep. The best part of the film in my opinion is that 5 minute stretch with the buildup waiting for the elevator, the elevator getting shot down, and everyone falling to their deaths. One of the ways i most fear dying is falling from such a great height that i have several seconds to realize what is happening. That is what that is. That strikes a nerve. and remember how catastrophic the falling of the elevator would be. in Halo 3, you see segments of New Mombasa's space elevator for miles and miles. that shit just gets so much more brutal when yuou think about it, and it is one of the first things that come to mind when i think of how terrifying it would be to witness the covenant war.

The director knew where to spend the limited money they was given...they could not save the script of the movie so they decided to make is feel like halo as much as they could and they did a fantastic job

its a shame. The first bit of the movie is great. I love the questions posed throughout the first half of the movie, but in the end of the day they dont really have a chance to be answered or resolved because they need that Halo action for the third act. They do answer the "theres a soldier in you" question, but I wish they further explored the idea of whether their training to fight against people is worth it; whether the death caused on both ends is worth it, especially knowing it was weakening them while the covenant was closing in. Maybe if he had decided that the medical leave was his way out of a war he saw as a waste and wanted no part of, pissing off the other lady who was far more devoted after trying to convince her he was right, and then had to stay because of the attack, and then changed his mind on rising up in the military after he knew there was a new more important war to fight, then the most compelling part of the film could have been resolved.

What's funny is that at that point, when he asked "how old are you?" At the end... Them being freshmen would make them 14-15ish... Chief and the other spartans were only 14... Also, yes they built Chief's suit for the movie and they got a 7" tall actor to do the bodywork and moving around.

despite how young the actors seem, the canonical age of the cadets is around 20. Think of the military camp as a college, not a high school.

the reason they don’t know who MC is, is because the Spartan-IIs were kept a secret from everyone except oni and high ranking officials, so marines and especially cadets wouldn’t know them, now why they asked “why are odsts dropping” is because they didn’t know about a more special forces type group so to them the odsts ARE the pinnacle of the UNSC

With regards to the matter of the Sangheili fighting with "honour," Locke's dialogue in the Terminal states: "In an unexpected display of what appears to be honour, 'Vadamee allowed the 3rd to finish gearing up before engaging them in combat. While we have had multiple reports of a strict system of honour and ritual behavior followed by Elites within the Covenant, this is the first recorded example of such honour being shown to human opponents." It's part of their culture and society, for sure, but not everybody is going to follow that as zealously as others - much like a lot of our own qualities we think of as "universal." And there's no honour to be had in committing genocide, which this depicts for exactly what it is.

I think given that in human history there are instances of "honor" and instances of total dishonor, it'd be fair to say that the Sangheili would have its own history of grappling with the concept of honorable deaths and whatnot.

absolutely. While Elites had a sense of honor, they often did not apply that standard to humans because they believed them to be far too lesser than them or the other races of the covenant. Beyond that, the Prophets had worn down the Elites' original code of honor to better fit their own needs, over many generations. While some like the Arbiter were very honorable, he was an outlier, and that combined with his unique position and circumstances lead to him becoming an Arbiter in the first place, and mind you Arbiters were always meant to be looked down upon.

The reason why Cortana looks like she's is having a mental breakdown/personality disorders is because the lifespan of an A.I. in the Halo Universe is 7 years. To quote from the wiki "If a "smart" human A.I. exists for over seven years, it usually enters a stage of rampancy similar to the human state of insanity". That's the reason why Serena wasn't around anymore in Halo Wars 2 because she deactivated herself due to rampancy protocols.

3 years late but I think you misunderstood a key point. This was an academy for the children of the upper echelon of the UNSC. They were HERE because great things were expected of them. The entire reason they were at this academy, was because their parents were the elite of the elite in the military. (Or you know, worked for Oni). So their hyper focus on their lineage and expectations derived from that is understandable.

I genuinely never understood the hate for this, even before all the action I thought this movie was awesome. The covenant were genuinely terrifying and it showed how much of a threat they really were. This is in my top 10 fave movies

Originally when I saw this for the first time I had a couple issues. 1. They didn't use Steve Downes for Master Chief. ( Not dissing the voice actor they used but it just aint Steve ) 2. Master Chief has a pretty deep voice considering he's supposed to be only 15 in this show/movie. But I've grown to like and appreciate these changes. It makes sense that chief would sound different as he's younger but it also makes sense that his voice would be deeper than that of a normal 15 year. His body has been flushed with so many chemicals that one can only assume that he started puberty far before the normal age. It can also be assumed that the growth hormone used in the chemical cocktail given to spartan 2's is responsible for not only his height and weight but also his voice and other physical features. This show aged like fine wine and even though it's not perfect it's still much, much better than the Halo Tv Show.

You're half right about the Sangheli fighting with Honor. The only high ranking Sangheli that showed the UNSC Honor and mercy is Thel Vadaam (Halo 2 era Arbiter). All the other Sangheli divisions and groups including the ones under Rtas Vaduum just followed orders to wipe out any Human installation without mercy.

ah yes, this is how you work with a legendary character as master chief, you introduce him as a baddas and it stays like that, something almost spectral as it didnt happened, spartans are suppose to be almost demigods, they are beyond human emotion, i dont know why they destroyed master chief in the new series but this is how you use master chief, you focus on characters we can get with emotions we also evoque , and you leave master chief untainted by this we can be him in the games we know whats hes about, show us what mere mortals would feel watching him in action, from complete hopelessness to "we can make it" just because he shows up, god THIS is what the series should have been

hi morgan, the (2) SPARTANS in the PELICAN are JOHN-117's closest squadmates, and you both saw them in HALO LEGENDS THE PACKAGE, they are KELLY-087 and FREDERIC-104.. you should play HALO 4 cuz this movie is a prequel event..

About if this is lore related, it is! I think you forgot that the halo 2* terminals showed that the elites abandoned most of their old ways just to follow the prophets and their journey. Yes, humanity didn’t have a clue about spartan 2 program, or even the covenant, this movie showed us the early days of the human-covenant war. And one thing I hated of this is the art design of the elites, they kinda mixed elites with brutes, many halo fans didn’t like the art design of halo 4 and 5, btw are you gonna play halo 5?

Not all elite's held the honor code. Most if not all of them belong to different clans, so I guess they had different beliefs. I'm willing to bet there are many elites that hold it while there are just as many that don't. Elite's that take the word of the prophets to heart are the ones that despise humanity even until the end of the war. While those of the swords of sanghelios actually know how to hold honor and respect

That's one of the things I hate about them, fortunately as of every mass extinction level event there would've been species that survivored, but millions did go extinct on each planet, dontvknow why the creators portrayed them doing it in the first place, there was no benefit to it
