“You know how expensive this gear is son?” I always thought about that line in terms of the monetary cost. I’m beginning to understand the greater cost, the cost in lives.
And that makes Master Chief's comment on telling that to the Covenant a bit more sharp. "Tell the bastards that burned Reach how many lives were spent on my armor. Tell them how they get their revenge through me."
Tell that to the Covenant. These words have so many sense right now, is not about the money, is about all the lifes and hopes and all the lifes the Covenant destroyed.
I love that these stories really show that, while the MasterChief is the stories main focus, humanity has collectively worked together despite all the odds against the covenant.
Dude, imagine a Halo-based game but it’s basically an action-horror. I’d love to be a Marine,, stuck behind enemy line with a few jumpscares here and there only to be rescued by the Chief in the end.
True, there even is a fan theory that Grunt dialogues seem so hilarious only when we're playing through chief's pov, and sound terrifying like in Reach to anybody else.
The closest we've actually gotten in terms of how most of the Human-Covenant War actually went was the opening cutscene in Halo Wars, the audiologs in ODST, and the atmosphere surrounding Halo: Reach. The OG Trilogy is actually an exception, not the rule, for what Halo's universe is actually like. Hell, there are even some Halo Machinimas out there that show just how poorly humanity was doing during the war.
It's mostly done by 215 McCann, same company that did the 'Become' trailer from last year, part of Halo 5's marketing, and Halo 3's 'Believe' ad campaign. There's a good interview with them and an Xbox marketing manager published by Adweek, and they're referenced a few times on Halopedia. Thought it was really neat that the same marketing company has stood with Halo all these years.
@@chadraptor2351 only a few bits and pieces. The guy testing the armour for the first time still got viscerally crushed in a disgusting manner. Just thinking about a movement made that component move, and we have thousands of thoughts a day. Poor bastard.
@@Mr.KittensAndGibberish It was specifically that after the initial movement and hurting himself he reactively flinched and move in response which caused more amplified and painful movements.
I love the idea with these. Master chief and his armor are almost considered the same, and with these videos were seeing that the armor,in a way, is like the conglomeration of humainitys hope in the darkest days.
i love the idea that the 'luck' of the human victory in the human covenant war was so dependent on these insane one in a million circumstances like the miners sacrificing themselves successfully or the use of cortana's installation 4 index on the ark. I also love that even despite there being so many AI and aliens, Halo still is all about the triumph of the human spirit
That and well, the elites leaving the Covenant and the Flood invading High Charity were also crucial in winning the war. Granted, the Chief was a major cause for those events so there's that...
@@loyalcynic772 Also the first UNSC archives was about a jackal shield gantlet that would lead to the development of the Master chiefs and other Spartans energy shields.
@Caleb OKAY i actually disagree, Halo has a pretty negative attitude towards religion. It suggests that sacrifice and perseverance is why huamnity keeps going.
They all died with hope in their hearts, that's what Chief is. Even though this entire mining operation is going towards one single human, Chief has proven time and time again that he is the savior of humanity, and their sacrifice is very much worth giving Chief the edge he needs.
@@jayebuss5562 the fact that they only mention Chief in all these videos annoys me for that reason. The UNSC isn't spending the resources it is on MJOLNIR just for one guy, not matter how famous or effective he is.
@@JACCO20082012 yeah that's why I'm not a fan of these little stories they're bringing out, pulling on the heart strings when really it's Chief/ others dealing death to Aliens.
"An offering unrecognized" "Never became what he already was the darkness that brings on the light." Powerful stuff! I hope we get one every week until December 9th.
It feels weird having, almost a decade later, now realising that if the Master Chief was to ever fail, or at worst, die. It wouldn't simply be him losing the fight and giving the covenant major footing or another talented Spartan MIA. It'd be hundreds, if not thousands of humanities most talented, hardworking minds all collapsing and scattering to the dust with him.
@@kelleyhaldorson209 Gravemind was always the worst for me. Die like 20 times every time before my reticle could even load in after the cutscene. Always have to fight tooth and nail for that one.

Knowing how Master Chief's armor and equipment are made somehow makes him more bigger than he already is. It's hard to describe but it's almost as if he does not just bring hope in the bleakest of war, he is hope, he fights with the strength of those that want to see this conflict reach its end. It's almost kind of mythical.
It always amazes me just how much sacrifice went into “passing the baton” to the next runner like these guys did just to get that extra edge to Chief. The entire Human-Covenant war had so many “final efforts” and it makes for a truly epic story. Even if it isn’t communicated fully in the games, these bits of marketing and lore videos do an incredible job of showing the universe from a different perspective than through playing as Master Chief. I think 343 has done a great job with this series!
As others have stated.... "You know how expensive this gear is son?" -- The Chief is Humanity. Humanity put everything they had into the Chief and the other Spartans, but the Chief, the Master Chief, is the symbol of what Humanity itself is able to accomplish. He helped set into motion the series of events that stopped the war and enabled the entire race to survive. But it wasn't done alone. All of these unsung heroes had their chips in play. Every soldier, Marine, every pilot and sailor, even civilians, put their all into the war. These unsung heroes -- these volunteers that went into the mine despite the threat, knew the price that had to be paid. They gave their lives, that Master Chief Petty Officer, Spartan John 117, (and the other Spartans, but John specifically,) would have the tools he would need to fight for humanity. Buried in the heart of an ancient moon, we now remember these heroes. Their song has been sung.
This is making Installation00 Very happy. There is so much here that my detailed focused brain is absolutely in awe about. So much potential for an awesome MJOLNIR GEN3 Most Detailed Breakdown. Who else is pumped by the Ad Campaign and Infinite as a whole?
@c0ya1 I want a live action version of The Fall of Reach. The whole original trilogy. Start the show off with Blue team on the cliffs, move to engaging the Grunts, in to diving off the cliff. Roll opening credits. Fade in to prowler cryo bay. Cut to Keyes eyes opening. Continue on like book. Show various kids being obsereved, then taken. End ep 1. Ep 2 starts with John fighting for his coin. Moves to Halsey and Mendez on platform addressing all 75 kids. Ep 2 ends with John falling on bed passing iut fom exhaustion. Ep 3, more training, ending with John exiting pelican for winter lake mission. Ep 4 starts with Sam on the ground with his leg looking busted up and a soldier walking up on him. Cuts back to all kids deciding on how to approach pelican. Back to Sam. Episode playes out to Chief asking Halsey how he survives the next "mission". Next ep starts on Atlas. Episode plays out just like the book, with various scenes added, ending with blue team in armory preparing for Watts mission. Next ep is the Watts mission and ends with John being shot (cliffhanger). Next ep begins with blue team on Pelican with Watts in container, showing flashbacks to his capture and Kelly or, I guess it doesnt matter, one of the other Spartans, giving treatment to John, while John calms Sam down about John being shot. Back on board, team talks, John gives the "we won speach" with close up of his armor damaged. Sam looks at John, flash back to various clips of friendship making missions with John, Sam, Linda, Kelly, and Fred. Episode ends with Blue team arriving with Watts. The next few episodes would expand Kurts story, followed by a few episodes showcasing various other Spartans, like Jorge, Jerome, grey team, and others. 2 more episodes would showcase the Spartans that survived augmentations but washed out. Next episode shows those who become Spartan Black but ends kinda shady like. The last episode of the 1st season would end with the Spartans and Hasley exiting the elevator on Chi Ceti with a far away shot of Mjolnir. Season 2 would start with an episode that showcases Keyes and Hasley early on in Spartan program. Moves on to Mendez early career. Then an episode introducing Admiral Stanforth, Hood, then an episode about Colonel Ackerson that ties in somehow with the s1 episode dealing with Soartan Black, showing him unlocking Halseys files, with bits of info about the mines under Castle Base, setting up future episodes. After these few episodes, we get our first real good look at the armor and it being designed, created, trials and errors, the soldier it killed, then a fade out, and fade in to John standing in the armor and the helmet sliding down on. End episode. I could keep going. Got some interesting ideas for a show. Unfortunately, it will never happen. But, damn it would be good.
I love how these display how Chief isn’t just a one-man effort for all the fights humanity had to face, but rather a collection of every day people’s work together. Every piece essential to the hope.
Honestly I love these little bits of lore we get about how Master Chief came about, it honestly makes us feel special as we play as Master Chief and looking back at the sacrifices that we’re made for the hero we know today

10 year game Let's be real, one of the last things in this game will be chiefs death. We might get a story or two afterwards, maybe like an odst or something add on like Halo 3 and Wars 2, but the final main line story content will have chiefs death.
@@CadillacDeVilledElegance yeah I kinda want this as well, hopefully it's going to be done incredibly well, the Chief needs rest. Emotionally I'm not prepared for this ngl lol.
Who ever is producing or directing these Halo Infinite shorts needs to be playing a big role in the Halo show coming out. For only being 1-4 minutes long they are absolutely amazing.
These videos are really trying to show how MasterChief is Humanity's last hope, and every human from all sorts of profession are trying everything they have to help him.
@@slipper342 That can't be the case though. Plenty of these ads make mention to the Human Covenant War, where we know for certain Chief had Gen 1 armor, as did every other Spartan 2. Naomi wouldn't even count in this case. And because you'll mention it: Gen 2 is post war, and Gen 3 was being tested around the time Gen 2 was made standard. Gen 3 is still extremely new, all things considered

343, you're doing everything right. THIS is what your real audience wants. Don't mind the people criticizing Halo Infinite for not having a battle royal, it never needed one. Halo, for me, was always about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. It's about what Humanity is at it's best, and what we can be. It's about what we choose to do even in the darkest times. In the same way Star Wars captivated and inspired a generation, that's what Halo is now. Keep doing what you're doing. Halo is Infinite
At this point, I dont think the people who asked for Halo Battle Royale are even the actual Halo veterans that have been with the franchise from the start. They're just streamers who are too scared to branch out from their core content.
@@CptSourcebird even me who didnt own an xbox or even halo ( only own halo ce and halo 2 back in the day...now own halo mcc on pc) know BR is nothing good about it
"An offering unrecognized." Yes, as the project is top secret they probably got covered in black ink no one knew about what they did. Also just now I get to learn how humanity sacrificed so much just to bring the Mjolnir to life. Back then I always get to hear that one suit is the cost of a destroyer, Now I wouldn't be surprised if later on we get to find out that a destroyer or a battlegroup and it's crew gets to sacrifice itself to deliver or protect the suit.
I wouldn’t be surprised if even the miners didn’t know what exactly they were doing considering the secrecy of the project. Makes their sacrifice more tragic
lol did no one else get Lord of the Rings: Return of the King vibes? When pippin is singing to Denethor (the king) as Faramir (the son of the king) rides back to retake Osgiliath (the city in front of Minas Tirith)?? This felt awfully like it. None the less, it’s awesome! We need the Halo showtime show yesterday!
I think ROTK was alot more darker because the sing was about the end of the world. Not to mention, Pippin sung it to Denethor after he sent his own son on a suicide mission knowing very well that he will not return.
@@Astralkiller47 The starting clip shows a diagram of his armour with words talking about the specific section of that armour. It's in every single one of these shorts at the start. This short is about his powered exo-skeleton and how they got the materials for it.
"For us, the storm has passed... the war is over. But let us never forget those who journeyed into the howling dark and did not return. For their decision required courage beyond measure; sacrifice, and unshakable conviction that their fight... our fight, was elsewhere. As we start to rebuild, this hillside will remain barren, a memorial to heroes fallen. They ennobled all of us, and they shall not be forgotten."
These just keep getting better! This gives me the exact same vibes as when Pippin is singing as Faramir leads his troops to death in Osgiliath in the Return of the King, I absolutely love it!
This song perfectly describes Noble 6 and how he watched his team fall one by one and how while they died they let Cortana be brought to the Pillar of Autumn and that in turn led to winning the battle. Saying that he never became what he already was brings up that he was a lone wolf yet at the end of it all he teamed up with 13 other Spartans shown by the body’s in the Lone Wolf mission, he also worked on stealth missions that tended to be at night. When he died ONI even hid his existence as a result making his sacrifice unrecognized. And wolf’s do tend to howl at the moon after all.
While Halo is fun, the expanded universe is something special. Roughly 550 years in the future and it feels awfully realistic for how our existing technology today could evolve. The books really expand on just how dire the situation was. We went from the middle of the second age of exploration amongst the stars to the greatest war humanity has ever seen in it's history up to that point in time that nearly extinguished our light for good.
Thanks for listening to the community. I see hope in gaming industry now. Back in the day when games actually play for fun and really enjoyable. Tired of those grinding and FOMO. Thank you, 343.
@@Feshman117 yeah it’s a shame it’s the the main thing I don’t like about infinite if they simply ported reachs progression system to infinite and polished it, would be perfect bc to this day it’s the best progression system I’ve ever experienced
these videos remind me of just how huge the Halo Universe truly is. it’s really easy to sit back and see chief as the true hero, but without these people there is no Master Chief 343 has done a fantastic job
Everytime I see chief in Infinite I'll be reminded about where each part of his armor came from, what people did to create it. It's imbued with their spirits. This is the Halo I know.

[EDIT- The new Mobile update makes it so the default is always 360p or whatever for me. Misread the date. It's 2552.03.09, which is firmly either BEFORE or AFTER the Fall of Reach depending on whether it's YYYY/DD/MM or YYYY/MM/DD.] 2552.03.08 was the date, it looks like. Depending on date formats? It could be during the Fall of Reach.
Timeline is close, but wouldnt quite match up. The date tagged at the beginning is March 9, 2552. If I remember right, the Covenant first struck Reach in late July. The possibility of this being a titanium mine the Covenant hit just before they knocked out Viszgrad relay is very much a possibility though. Though Im not sure Titaninum was used in the reactive exoskeleton itself.
This is a song for those who fought, suffered, and died for what they believed in, yet were left forgotten in the sands of time, unrecognized for their sacrifice.
That just got me in the feels. God do I love being a halo fan for this kinda stuff and lore, like this is truly an art right here to make all of this like if you don’t watch this and don’t catch any feels you’re truly missing out on this stuff man. God I love Halo
The amount of lives and sacrifices that was put into mc is absolutely insane. Not only the sacrifices for the construction and upgrades of the armor but getting Cortana to him on Reach, finding him from when he crashed from orbit and spending resources to retrieve him in Halo 5 (if you wanna count that game). ALL the chips were bet on him and him alone
Here is my theory in Halo Infinite, we're gonna hear this audio log of the song somewhere near the mountains and the Weapon is probably gonna talk to Chief about it. What will they say? I dunno, but I bet it'll be awesome! I loved these Archives and I don't want them to end!
Something that upsets me alot is that people always tend to forget how mythical Halo used to be, it was one of the many quirks that made halo unqiue this video is a return to form, and breath of fresh air from all that hard sci-finess
Dang these archive videos are beautiful, they emphasize humanity’s will to survive and do whatever we must to keep going. Makes you want to obliterate the covenant and keep the banished from becoming as powerful as our old genocidal foe.
It goes to show that if we are to face the threats that may be waiting above that we must first learn to work together down here. Humanity needs to grow up and stop fighting for resources.
What really struck me here is that humanity has chosen, over and over again, despite looking into the face of death and worse, genocide... we push forward. At first, they are lost, depressed, about to die. By the end, they are none of those things. Oh they ARE about to die... but that's not what's on their minds or in their hearts. They know why they are here and how important the mission is. They don't feel small and insignificant but like an essential piece of the great shield that will protect all of human kind.
I've watched this about 50 or so times now, and every time I get teary; not out of sadness, but a swelling of the emotion of trailer: hope, that they're sacrifice was worth it. . .
Correction: the unsc went to hell, but almost no one came back, many lives stayed there just to bring to the ones that could return the ores and tools to make the hope of humanity, a hope in the shape of the MJOLNIR armor
*All it takes is one strong and true voice to inspire others to rise out of the darkness and into the light together, and sometimes, that voice can lead to them being found when they feel very much lost and trapped.*

This is haunting and beautiful. I got goosebumps everywhere from the first note and I loved it. Halo is so story-rich and I am proud to say that i've been a fan since the beginning. I can't wait to see how they conclude Halo Infinite. Counting the days impatiently.
Damn man, these are really good. Just showing like all the sacrifices that everyone made just to have a chance to survive. Chief gets a lot of attention for being the hero but at the end of the days all these people were real heroes not just the Spartans.
I love how these videos are highlighting just how much collective effort goes into elevating the Chief to the position he has. The Master Chief is more than a sci-fi badass in a green suit, he is the sum total of humanities effort to survive distilled into a single point, a sword swung by thousands.
This heart is why Halo is gonna blow the lid off gaming this year, it’s given some of the strongest nostalgia in the last 20 years, my little cousin is literally flying out to start his first post as a marine on Monday and my older cousin who got me started on Halo just became a father, and me I felt the miners peril, confined to their work zone which was now their resting place and still not going quietly into the goodnight, like wtf is life and how did we arrive at zeta already, idk but I’ll see you all there
@Giovanni Marrero I’m Christianity Christians are supposed to shine the light of Jesus. So light bringers can go more than one way and mean more than one thing.
@Giovanni Marrero Funnily enough both Jesus and Satan went by the name Morning Star, in the latter case I believe it both referenced his past and his using of sacred things to mock the righteous. I could imagine the same case with Light Bringer, as it can mean both holy wisdom and as a more general illumination of knowledge and sciences which were sometimes tied to the demonic. That said John 117 has always been kind of a biblically framed figure, literally sacrificing his normal life for the sake of humanity, so I'd imagine it's likely the positive meaning.
Can you imagine being a spartan, going into your suit, knowing the sacrifices that were made as you go to make your own.. these have been making my eyes swell a lot. If the TV series is anything like this, we're in for some treats let alone the new game coming out.
I love how these videos just shows the sacrifices that everyday men and women made to ensure humanity’s survival and ensure Master Chief completes his mission. Just amazing videos.
