I make this with the potato boiled separately and then hamburger and onion cooked And drained I make a milk gravy, add the meat to it and then pour over potatoes. I call it Hamburger Gravy. It’s so good!

Here in the part of Indiana where I live we do something similar. The only additions are crisping bacon, reserve fat. Brown onions and mushrooms in half of bacon fat. Set aside. With remaining fat brown meat and potatoes , adding pepper & salt. Mix all ingredients together, then cook together for 10-15 minutes more. Top with Parmesan cheese. For Malissa - take out potatoes and add in cauliflower for the last 10-15 minutes of cook time.

Who doesn't like fried potatoes, hamburger and onions together. Concoction cooking at its best. I make this with beefy onion soup mix. I also make it and then pour cheesy sauce over it. A nephew of mine at it with the cheese and he said "this tastes just like hamburger helper". LOL!!! Wow, "gee thanks".

I had to laugh when you said you would have dividers on your plate. Would you have dividers in your stomach, too, which is where it all goes to? Do you eat one thing first before another? That's so funny.

Hi Joe and Melissa. Very interesting cooked dish, and certainly very tasty. In our latitudes (Bulgaria) we call this dish "moussaka". But after cooking, we traditionally put sour milk on top. Tomorrow I'll try your recipe too. Greetings and look forward to more recipes from As The Rooster Crows. :)

If you get frozen puff pastry .cut into square spoon on it, two to three of the hamburger concoction added with curry paste or powder then fold into triangle.seal the edge with water. Then egg wash the top.bake in pre heated oven for 19- 15 mins. That is then baked pastry if using original hamburger concoct. If added curry powder.. called curry puff..

If someone is preparing a Keto version of this dish, you can substitute radishes for the potatoes, and it will taste almost the same. The cooked radishes will lose their distinctive flavor and become neutral when cooked with the ground beef.

Hi Joe, I wanted to share and "idea" with you about the back of your range top. Eventually that brick will get cooking grease, so it would be a good idea to NOW put a large chrome, or copper plate to cover those white bricks...which will be a breeze to spray and wipe clean. Your hamburger concoction looks delicious. Will try it + mushrooms.

Joe, the cast iron skillet you used to make your concoction today, did Melissa bring that up there from Louisiana? Cast iron pots are sacred family heirlooms that pass from one favorite child to the next generation favorite child in Louisiana. It isn't unheard of for someone to be shunned by the family if they accidentally wash the baked on oil seasoning off Maw Maw's black pot! BTW, in Pennsylvania, they call ground meat. "hamburg meat".
