I am in the thumb osteoarthritis group. I am in a small subset of very fit elders. Three years ago I could not put on heavy gloves or open a car door. By being more meticulous at carb control and I think now reduction in Linoleic acid. ( I was already off processed food and used mono saturates rather than polys for cooking etc). My thumbs now can work hard all day, there is no more crepitus or tendon subluxation. I am back doing weighted chin-ups in my exercise routine. I no longer wake in the night with pain. Hard to explain but I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I further limited Linoleic by reducing nuts and industrial chicken and pork fat exposure. Other interventions over that time were using more KCl as a salt substitute and more magnesium replacement. I don't think they were instrumental, but its complex.

Great information and easy to understand explanations. Fascinating that grip strength is factored so greatly by the pinkie and ring fingers - it is obvious when you isolate those two fingers vs the other 2. I was hoping to to hear at least mention of Dupuytrens - effects, causes and maybe what to do about it in its various stages.
