This cycling sensor attaches to Presta tire vales to monitor your bike tire/tube air pressure in real-time and transmit it to either your Garmin device or Wahoo ELEMNT/BOLT, plus a phone too. The data can then be recorded for later access.

I finally got a pair of these which I really wanted when I first saw this review. For MTB a 1 psi difference is 5% at 20psi whereas in a road bike a 1% psi difference at 100 is only a 1% difference. I like the quick glance to see if I need to adjust my tire pressure pre-ride. It is easy to dial in your exact pressure with what acts like an accurate digital gauge (I use the ShockWiz as a digital pressure gauge for my fork and shock).

When I first got into cycling I got a flat about 3 months in... at that point I could maintain about 15mph with no effort and all of a sudden I was huffin' and a puffin' going 9-10mph. I seriously thought I was having a heart attack or something. Pulled over to rest/die and then realized I had a flat. I will never forget that. Anyway, I agree these are cool and maybe even a good idea for general riding but overpriced. Yet I just got them on Amazon since the Karoo started supporting them a few weeks ago :)

What about wheel balance ? Have you tried to spin the wheel at high speed on a stand to see if the wheel makes the bike shaking ?

Ray, does Quark say anything about using them on tubeless with sealant? Seems like the diaphragm or what ever the sensor is used could be sensitive to getting gunked up. Regardless do they seem like they would get clogged up easily and either easy/hard to clean out?

Jason, I read Quarq's statement on this and they stated that it can be used with sealant and that it's not an issue at all.

I'd say it would affect the wheel balance too

Not all presta stems have removable cores (core, not the stem is what you remove). I've only got a few that do. And you are right the price point is too high, but it will come down. Less than $200 gets you 4 tire sensors and a display unit for car tires. For tubeless they could put the works inside the tire, which is how oem auto ones are and would be much cleaner, but might not work with sealant.

Inside a bicycle wheel may subject them to damage when the tire goes flat.

The size is hilarious!! Why do they use 2032 batteries instead of smaller format coin cells?

I'd say, for most people, these would be one of the last sensors you buy if you actually desire to have them.

What I would like it to do is have a function that would release all the air from the tire. For the times you are hanging on for dear life and need to take a break. Tap the data field and the device flats the tire. Presto, instant excuse / break.
@topspot4834
@topspot4834 2 года назад
Or you can just decide to take a break without causing an unnecessary flat.

Neat! Ultimately I think this is more for the serious people - and I'm sure the aero and weight weenies will be up in the "air" about how much it sticks out - would be awesome to have the data during an Ironman like you said, but it'll still always be a tough decision of adding rotational mass/drag. Maybe someday they can get this down enough to essentially have it just be a valve extender? After all those are often needed for aero wheels anyways - would be awesome if it could fit in there as a valve extender seamlessly. Perhaps that can be done on some wheels even with the current shape? Even for those who are that picky about weight/aero - having the data for testing rolling resistance effects during training could be pretty huge. Like REALLY huge, actually. Certainly that hardcore audience has spent more on less gains... I do agree with you on the price though - hopefully that'll come down over time too because this looks really neat to me as a data junkie.

It would work really well if wheel manufactures integrated this into the wheel, especially on some deep section wheels where you could hide it out of the wind.

Cool gizmo. Dono why I missed this video when it came out... Quick one. Why not remove the stem from the spare inner tube(s)?? That way you can just move the wizz to that, if you have a flat. You need to unscrew it anyway... 2 questions. How do they like the cold from a co2 pump??? And what about sealant, like Doc Blue? For tubeless or just protection.
@lazurm

Quarq states it's 100% okay with tire sealant.

Hey Ray, just a thought after watching this video. You made no mention of the Quarq Shockwiz that you can not only Buy, but many people will let you rent it to hello get your air suspension setup ok your Mountain Bike. I check Quarq's website and it says that it will make recommendations to tire pressure. Which makes a massive difference in mtbing, and write a significant one in road cycling as well. I wonder if this is not the actual focus of the product and the talk time telemetry a nice benefit? I wonder how good the recommendations are. Apparently the Shockwiz very good. Also wonder if it would help people going to road tubeless, or Road Plus tubeless even, from old school 23c clinchers and tubes find their new tire pressure much faster? That would make it a tuning tool and not just a convenient monitor, and maybe hello justify the price tag?

Neat feature. Really is...But for $199, even at $99 to add a cyclops thingy that takes away from a clean look on my sweet wheels not so good. Like most, before all my rides is felt with my hands tire hardness and added air when I needed it. Done. Prepare my saddle bag with CO2, spare tube and a single plastic tire lever and GTG. Some things in cycling just don’t need changing. Less is more. Smooth is fast. It’s about fitness over lighter bikes.

$200.... I think i'd rather just check and see if I have a flat. Cool tech but definitely not for most people.

I bought one and I get psi data after every ride. How do I use it to fine tune the optimal pressure? Sram advertises that over time it will recommend a pressure based on your personal data. I dont see this anywhere
@Anton-zb9dc
@Anton-zb9dc 6 лет назад
It could be inside deepsection wheel's rim, not neat enought. I'd use that on an mtb so that in case of a puncture I could easily open the valve to put an extra sealant.
@lazurm
@lazurm 2 года назад
Anton, but, if you get a flat the sensor can be easily damaged if it's on the inside of the tire, yes?

@Yosser70

Probably not for everyone but could imagine it being useful to pros maybe. If it had an alarm for when pressure drops below a certain point, they'd knownthey had a flat sooner so could get their arm up for a new wheel quicker and save some time. Also think this would be great for MTB riders as pressure plays a bigger part formthem than road riders.

Tire will be really unbalanced...... should put on and turn the wheel fast to see how bad the wobble/bound is.
@Dcrainmaker
@Dcrainmaker 6 лет назад
It's on the centerline, there's no left/right unbalanced aspect. And no unbalanced aspect that fore/aft, because your wheel is spinning fast enough it simply doesn't matter. Note that technically every wheel is unbalanced, as the valve is already heavier on one side than another.

If low pressure can leave you doubting, perhaps thinking your lower speed may account for it, it's ironic that being TIREd can do the same. Well...if you're in good health you can increase your cycling and solve some of this issue. Come to think of it, being reTIREd leaves you the extra time to increase your cycling. I know, TIREsome humor....

200 bucks? That's insane. This device doesn't make me faster, safer, cooler or anything. Might consider it for 20 bucks and if it were twice as small. But hey, I'm Dutch and cheap, so I'm probably not their focus group.

recently got 4 of these...for the new tires on my truck. will cost you $49 per sensor at the tire shop but i got mine off ebay at $49.95/4. that's bout 12.50/sensor, they are OEM and communicate automatically with my vehicle. can we say overpriced...just wait for another similar product at 29.99/wheel. great idea, bad marketing.

Whilst I love innovation... I genuinely can't see a practical purpose to this other than a slow leak. It seems similar to Garmin's running dynamics... It's nice stuff to know, but what do you do with it? If your tire pressure is slightly lower on a cold day... Is that bad? I don't see that this does much more than my pump, which tells me the sensor. If I get home, I can put it on again and see how much its dropped. And $200... No. Sorry. No.
