It took me around a year of consistent practice to be able to do a good handstand. It’s way faster for others, but damn it was hard for me. Figuring out how to position my legs and actively tightening my butt and core were the tips that finally unlocked it. Don’t underestimate the importance of squeezing that booty

I was glad to see you added "hanging" as conditioning, about 9-10 months into comprehensive handstand training I started Aerial Hoop. I had some crossover skills from yoga but I lacked "pull" strength whereas handstanding and yoga is "push". As I improved hanging to pull ups and other aerial conditioning I was surprised how much of a positive impact on my balance, flexibility and grip strength.

I practiced for a year against the wall and was quite comfortable, but when I tried without the wall as backstop, I couldn’t find the proper posture and balance point. Finally solved it by abandoning the wall and methodically practicing kick up. Also, cartwheeling into a handstand helped me learn better balance and control. I no longer fear falling because I can always get back to my feet safely.

I avoid handstanding chest against wall because it causes me pain in the in the spine at the lowest part of the back. I manged to strengthen my core and back with stabilization and strengthening drills for long time. I will give this a go carefully with pushing hard the floor and squeezing everything.

I've tried all my life, just like the example at the beginning! Could always do headstands w/ no problem but not hands - and my twin (not identical) could always stand on her hands, even walk! Coupla years, a yoga teacher explained it had to do with strength, and suggested I work up to it by doing pushups and other exercisss to build shoulder and wrist strength before moving to the wall. That was the first I heard that it had to do with strength & not just balance! I didn't work on it - too much chaos in my life - but I'm still interested. Maybe your advice will be helpful too. I always had good balance, but upper body strength is another story, as well as slender (weak) wrists and ankles, which I want to build up. Maybe some people might need more prep b4 they go to the wall?

Hi...I'm quite motivated to this 💪 today I tried first time with wall. Didn't last long though 😁 I have two questions : is it normal to feel quite some pressure and pulsating around ears? And how long time I have to do it? I mean, per day, ? Thanks
@sogood3966
@sogood3966 3 года назад
I'm not expert,but been learning handstand for a while.1)Pressure when you upside down is very normal,as you keep praticing your body will get used to it.2)In training skill,you have to focus on your form,when you're feel like you're breaking it then just stop and rest.With that said,the intensity is low,4-5 times per/week once per/day is enough.If you usually go to the gym,make sure your muscle is recovered(espeacially,shoulders and triceps).Wish you luck

Chest to wall is great, but not necessarily the best for beginners, using more wall variations helps practitioners to improve their alignments and strength faster.

@@Strengthside well it was too difficult for me to go upside down. I have the strength but I guess it is mostly my fear of falling down even against the wall, that doesn't let me do it. It takes time and practice and someday it will be easy for me to do! Thank you for asking 🙏🏻🙏🏻

@somerandomboi8239 3 года назад
@@gaia_arttt learn to break your fall first. That will help you overcome your fear. Search up "judo ukemi", it's designed for hard surfaces. It is possible to fall and not feel anything at all, trust me. And it's really easier to learn than handstand bcs it is nothing about strength, only technique. And it looks badass when you do it.💪 Good luck.

Great vid but why does NOBODY on the internet talk about HOW TO FALL? The #1 problem I have is not having a safe way to come down from chest to wall. If you get too close you can fall onto your hips/back and really injure yourself. If you hold it too long you are so fatigued that walking your hands away from the wall to come down is almost impossible. I have started my kickup journey to back-to-wall and it is terrifying but I know that I either hit a wall or come down to my feet. Any thoughts or tips ?

You need to learn how to bail first. Start with wall walk, then lift one hand up and rotate your body to fall down to the side. At first do this farther from the wall and progressively move closer as you get more confident.
