Hello John, a neat little meter for the price. Good for beginners or just to throw into a tool bag for "quick and dirty" testing. Hope you are all keeping well my friend, we are living in crazy times. All is good here, but winter is creeping up on us. Take care and all the best, Dave

Hiya Dave.. Yes not a bad little meter, some downsides but I guess everything has those. Certainly are crazy & weird times we're now living in. Here in the UK we're going into full lockdown again on Thursday, for at least a month, but there's chatter circulating that it could be for much longer :( I just feel really sorry for those who's businesses etc are collapsing due to all this, and for those who are struggling mentally. I must admit, even folk I thought wouldn't be affected by this are becoming mentally weary & downhearted now. It's not nice. Anyway.. Make sure you and yours stay safe Dave 👍️ Regards John

Thanks for a nice review! A couple of things that would have been nice to know is its battery current draw, both active and standby. Also, lowest operating voltage. If it still works at 3V it would be a good fit for 3 NiMH cells as it would then be able to use all of the available capacity. Cheers!

Thanks buddy.. I'll try and remember to include these for the next video 👍️ I just measured your requested items just to see.. Ok so.. Switch-On max current draw 3.3mA. Switched On 1.61mA Switched Off 3.69uA Minimum operating voltage 3.778v Cheers John

@@OrbiterElectronics Thank you very much for these measurements! So it will not work very good at all with NiMH cells, as those deliver around 1.2V for most of the discharge curve. Thanks again!

@@mcg6762 You're welcome mate. If I remember I'll put a set of Eneloops in it tomorrow just to try them, however I'd be surprised if they even powered the meter up.

Well it seems accurate enough for none critical measurements, you know the Go - No go check when checking power supplys/resistances in a device. Car battery/alternator check and similar. Stops people setting it on ohms then connecting it to the mains, some people just don't look. I would call it an auto M-830B, it will do the job :-D

Hi Harv, hope your keeping ok mate. It really is just an 'OK' kinda meter, as always though. Better than no meter :D Cheers John

John would you recommend one of there cheaper scopes ? Hantek DSO5102P only 100Mhz 2 channel, It's to surprise a friend for Xmas. He has a crappy hand held. BTW I seen you in the TheCod3r live! stream chat, I'm very surprised they missed your message, a Legend such as your self, should never!! be ignored IMO. 🖖👍

Hi Mate.. A legend you say, well thank you :) 👍️ Yea I regularly pop onto TheCod3r channel to see what he's up to. But I don't normally hang about very long, he's interesting to watch though. I can't say I've tested or reviewed one of the Hantek scopes but yes, I would certainly recommend one over the likes of a cheapo handheld scope. It'll have far better specs by comparison. Hantek are a known brand too so they're not just a brand that's sprung up yesterday. Cheers John

John that's awesome! news thank you! he's been my best friend since we where kids, many, many moons ago (old moons) haha! so yes i agree it'll make his hand held look like a kids toy, I just wanted a honest opinion from a Legend source here in the cold wet UK. Seeing you review the meter & me spotting a scope on a auction site i thought that'd make an ideal present. Oh I know Hantek are not newbies in the branded hardware department, I just wanted a good honest 2nd opinion before i went ahead with the sale. Thanks again mate, you real! Legend you, all the best, stay safe all. Steven 🖖👍

@Ratchet effect I have owned a Hantek DSO5102P for a couple of years and can vouch that it's a perfectly capable scope. It even has a FFT function (poor mans alternative to a spectrum analysis). I would think that if your friend currently only has a cheap hand held, he will be delighted with the Hantek.

Hi, I have bought this Hanmatek S1 multimeter just a week ago in a local store, have been busy in other things and today was the time to use it, everything is OK except the NFC detection, it doesn't work. One thing I noticed is when I check AC 110 volts outlets with the test leads and with the NFC button pulsed it detects the current but not through the sensor itself but by the leads. Any idea on thid

I think the manual is confusing on this.. To detect AC using NFC feature, I just use the NFC button with the meter close to where I suspect AC may be (no leads fitted.) If you REALLY need to test the mains voltage (be careful !!) I tend just to use the leads to measure it. I have done this with my Hanmatek meter this morning just to check it, and it works as expected.

@@OrbiterElectronics Actually the NVC wasn't working, yesterday I decided to open the multimeter and in the place where the NVC sensor should be was empty, for a moment I thought it was a fault from the quality check but then I saw this little long piece of metal hanging at one side of the circuit board and I realized it was the "sensor", I thought this sensor was bigger and not just a simple piece of conducting metal, I saw the place in the upper part of the board, got my welder and attached the piece in the place, closed the unit and tried it again and voila, that was the problem, I'm sure it was a cold solder and those things happen. I made some AC testing and the readings were OK, next I made a frequency test and it returned 59.9 Hz which is right, so I am satisfied now with this little multimeter.

@@thorhedderich Ah ok, glad to hear you sorted it out anyway 👍
