I have a brand new TRANE and I’m here to tell you, my next unit will not be. Customer service is horrible too, and I’m the least confrontational person you’ll ever meet!

I have two Tranes with TAM9 fan coil units that are 7 years old. One has had two coil replacements, the other one. Parts under warranty but $1000+ each time for labor. No more Tranes for me.

I had to replace the coil in a Tam9 unit TWICE! I was told it was an oven issue during the manufacturing process of the coil, also, TRANE tried to cut costs by using inferior parts! Supposedly the problem has been corrected!

Also has a drain trap. These units don't need them as it blows the water out of the trap due to coil is after the fan

Interesting - I have corrosion on the fins of the evaporator. Replacement coming Monday - got to pay for labor, though. Just after five years. Contamination in the line? Copper and aluminum don't go well together.

I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED IN TRANE QUALITY . I HAVE BEEN A TRANE DEALER FOR OVER 30 YEARS , BUT HAVE RECENTLY STOPPED INSTALLING TRANE DUE TO HIGH FAILURE RATES DUE TO LACK OF QUALITY IN MANUFACTURING.

A little more than a year ago my adult son decided to replace the 15 year old system in his home. Based on my prior experience with two long term Trane systems I encouraged him to pay the extra and go with Trane. I now regret giving him that advice. He has had constant problems with the Trane, leaking refrigerant, leaking water on the filter. The water catch tray leaked and was replaced after the one year warranty so he had to pay a large amount for the labor and pay for more refrigerant. He has had to pay almost one thousand dollars for refrigerant. Another technician says the leaking refrigerant and oil caused the plastic condensate tray to deteriorate and leak. They are now going to replace the condenser which will cost him several hundred dollars labor and more refrigerant. A less than two year old unit has cost almost two thousand dollars in labor and refrigerant not covered by Trane. I wish I had not intervened and he had bought the Daikin which had a 12 year parts and labor warranty. Shame that Trane quality had ended and they are now focused on advertising rather than taking care of customer.

Trane, always been having issues with leaking coils, carrier and Lennox. They all have those problems. From the all brands, ruud and rheem coils are better builds.

Question for the group, is there another non-Trane air handler or another coil that can be installed instead of the factory one? My AC contractor said when we run in heat pump mode it puts too much pressure on the Evap coils and kills the unit. I have stopped running heat pump mode and just run the heat strip. In Florida we mainly run AC only. Hope this helps and would be nice to have an alternate. Also was told the freon cracks the plastic. This will be the last plastic enclosure I get if I have a choice. What's the best system out there that lasts? TIA...

Had same happen to me TWICE! Ate it on one but got reimbursed on the other one. It's not a simple coil swap either....all the sensors have to be swapped, drain baffles have to be transferred over, and of course the EEV.... kinda of a pain in the ass and very disappointing esp after you've told the customer how great the product is...
@Jeff9202
@Jeff9202 3 года назад
Yes it is a simple coil swap. Changing everything adds maybe a few extra minutes to the job, total, but still simple. That said, never been a fan of the tam 9 personally, for the fact that I've had to change enough of those coils under warranty that it's so easy at this point lol :/
@ajlewis4562

Once 410 is gone hopefully leaking coils will stop. I'm convinced it's the high pressures of the refrigerant. Never seen so many leaking condensers, evaporators and Schrader valves in my life.

Are there any other air handlers like this that have the foam insulation inside?

I had a new trane package unit installed in Aug 2021 and in March 2022 it needed a new evap coil due to it leaking from the ends. It's now May 2023 and the same thing happened and guess what, it's out of warrantee and I might end up paying for this Manufacture defect.

Curious..Any opinions on the BOSCH 2.0 ids or the Daikin/Amana models? I presume American Standard is the same as Trane these days.

I've put the Bosch in. Pricey but they seem to be good units. Once again I don't think there are many brands that are just bad. It's all about the install.

Installation issue here….Return base looks to be roughly 10x16 which is good for 800 cfm, You need 400 cfm per ton, that air handler is a 4 ton which requires 1600 cfm. Undersized return equals higher pressure which would cause coil to prematurely rupture. I can guarantee heating pressure are through the roof. Installer error not equipment.

The quality of Trane systems is now poor. I just bought two systems for over $22K. They leak air. The installer said Trane makes them like this. I should have gone with another brand. The Trane went off the tracks long ago.

All coils leak specially aluminum . I’m disappointed in all the aluminum coils are you kidding me and half of the copper ones especially from Lennox . Are you serious look at that return the return boxes need to be twice that big for that unit I hope it’s not communicating XV unit that’s OK if you’re running it on the lower stages but if you get up to 80 to 100% definitely going to have high static on the supply and the return too. I want to know what the status is on 100% LOL that’ll cause refrigerant leak . Give you low superheat it’ll give you high wet bulb and high amperage is on the blower as well. All coils leak from every brand. You got a bet your sweet ass that every coil you put in it’s going to leak within five-ten years bet my life on it

Anyone that buys any home appliance these days is lucky to get 10 to 12 years out of it,yes I said any home appliance. Spending crazy money on the latest greatest is only buying you more cheap non American made electronics, sensors and crap to go wrong. And it will. Nobody wants to manufacture anything that lasts 30 years anymore,they may say they do,but they don't. It's all cheap electronics and garbage sensors.
