I don’t think Snake could have fulfilled The Boss’ Will without Otacon. Like you said, he just wanted to retire with his dogs in Alaska. It was Otacon who founded Philanthropy and gave Snake’s life purpose after the Shadow Moses Incident.
@@taylord5381 Even Meryl too, because of her admiration for Snake and Campbell (her dad) when they were in FoxHound back then, and due to the whole Gene Therapy Hoopla with the Government trying to influence their actions (Memes) and their Genetics (Genes) to create the (Scene) that would make ultimate (Sense) by the time MGS4 happened for the Patriots' own ends, and they knew that it would be their ultimate demise.
Maybe it's a play on Solid's namesake, the David in the bible. David was the only king who truly understood God's will. [Fyi: bible David was the youngest in the family and viewed upon as the weakest (perhaps attributed here as the recessive genes) His eldest brother was named Eli who was a soldier in the Hebrew army (Eli of course being Liquid's real name) but who cowered at the sight of Goliath. Speaking of which, Metal Gear(s) no doubt representing Goliath in all them games.]
@@Whatsdogpee Ominously enough, if you know the full Bible story, then you’ll recall that David became quite the monster later in life, seemingly going mad with power (such as when he intentionally got one of his soldiers killed just so he could fuck his wife). Snake’s rapid aging quite literally forced him to die a hero instead of living long enough to become a villain like his father.
Big boss knew though. Thats why he tells solid snake in mgs4 "if you were in my place back then, maybe you wouldnt have made the same mistakes I have." He knew his son actually followed what she wanted.
Boss: is extremely dedicated for her country and sacrifices her self for it. Big Boss: *builds mercenary group which doesn't ally with ANY country including the us*
@@estacion7386 it's all up for interpretation idk about this video it's very contrived in ways and interprets things in a very specific way that can't be fully determined as right and wrong only what you believe
It has a reason he is not possesed he uses psychological manipulation therapy on himself to become liquid snake doppelganger just so he can bypass the patriots AI as liquid and destroy the AI so big boss can be free
My headcannon is that he was still possessed in MGS2 and that's what gave him the idea to implant Liquid's personality in MGS4. As for "no reason" The Sorrow was a medium remember? Some residual ability was probably inherited.
You could argue that Otacon alongside Solid Snake was the one to realize The Boss' will, as Philanthropy was co-founded by them. Also Otacon has an even more direct tie to The Boss, having been conceived by Strangelove as the spiritual son of her and The Boss and raised on The Boss' ideals. In a way, Otacon was the only one of The Boss' "children" to actually understand her will.
listening through his codec calls in mgs4 and the novelisation it took him a bit but he was the closest to realising not only the Boss’ will but also adapting it beyond her understanding - the cold war, vs the new age of the proxy wars going against everything she could stand for. It’s a really underrated comparison
The MGS saga summarized for JoJo fans out there *Volgin, torturing Snake in a room after capturing him* "You're after the philosophers legacy, are you? Well, too bad, it's safe in my position, in Grozny Grad's underground vault!" *In that same room was.....* Ocelot (triple agent for the KGB, looking for the legacy) EVA (triple agent for China, looking for the legacy) The Boss (double agent for the US, looking for the legacy) Snake (didn't even know it existed)
@@beepees ...and then after Volgin's defeat, he goes chasing after someone who he thought was the same Snake from 9 years ago and only finds out after getting a really good look at the Snake he was chasing that he wasn't the same one that defeated him
Venom snake did. In a cut audio piece, venom says "I imagine a day where we wouldn't need the gun or the hand that pulls the trigger", even though venom was the phantom big boss, he understood it more than the real Big Boss.
@@John.McMillan I’d like to think of Zero and Big Boss as two extremes of what The Boss wanted; Zero exerting total control over society to ensure a united international utopia under strict and specific ideologies (which ultimately fails and causes greater division) and Big Boss giving soldiers the freedom to live as soldiers without nations or ideologies to tie them down while they fulfill their purpose on the battlefield (which ultimately leads to constant armies, battlefields and wars without purpose).
@@zachmercer1065 True, But I agree woth the orginal commenters take alot. Boss didnt want controlled utopia or a country for soldiers, she dreamed of making a world where soldiers weren't needed at all. Zero was closer on that aspect, makong a world under total control that didn't need war anymore, whereas Big Boss wanted a world where soldiers were always needed and never forgotten. Snake was the contrast to The Boss, which is something I always really liked on the games. Snake would also go on about "The Boss' will" when in reality The Boss would likely hate even the concept of MSF, Diamond Dogs or Outer Heaven. Kind of a Yin/Yang sort of thing, Boss wanted peace for all, Snake wanted war for the sake of peace of mind.
100% agree about Solid Snake and am really glad you came to that conclusion, because I think Solid Snake being the sort of "true" heir to the Boss' will is a nuance of the overall MGS storyline that seems to go unsaid or missed entirely. Compared to the other Les Enfantes Terrible children, David had the least exposure to the whole mess his genetic father was involved in in his formative years, his training under Miller being the closest he got (and as you went into in your video on Miller, he himself another victim of the Patriots' whole hidden war.), as well as CQC training from a standoffish Big Boss. Otherwise, David's personality was basically formed by the "outside", which in my mind effectively made him an outsider perspective on the insanity that the ideological war involving Big Boss, Zero, Ocelot, and the rest had brought to the world. That perspective, even if the years did take their own toll on Snake, ironically allowed him to see the Boss' will more clearly than anyone despite, like you said, never having met her before because he was coming from the perspective of the people, whereas everyone else involved in the Patriots' ideological war were all affected by their little internal universe a bit too much. Only Snake truly understood the world outside. Even when developing a bit of a jaded perspective himself, he never quite succumbed to the glorification of death that seemed to befall everyone else involved, choosing instead to believe in life despite it all. All the big players in the Metal Gear saga, in some way or another, generally having one thing in common; they don't understand people. The Metal Gear saga is the story of one big power play between powerful people trying to essentially rule the world in one way or another, either literally or by starting an ideological revolution; but in the end none of them really understood the people "outside" that their actions were affecting. Solid Snake on the other hand, through thick and thin and even his own doubts, never stopped believing in the individual. In people. And after having a critical role in brushing all of their mess aside and bringing the world back on course, Snake quietly living out his days "as a man" was probably the purest expression of the Boss' will. I think the fact David never even met the Boss, or was even aware of her existence for years, makes the whole thing bitterly ironic.
In universe Solid Snake must be familiar with part of The Boss legend: she was a war hero, mother of special forces and inventor of CQC, Big Boss is awarded his tittle by beating her. US propaganda labelled her a as a traitor so he probably didn´t think much of her as a FOXHOUND agent.
@@TaseradictIt's possible, but by all accounts the game seems to generally imply that the Boss' existence had been pretty much erased in order to ensure the ploy her sacrifice was used for. Big Boss was basically given almost complete credit for all of the above, like propaganda. It kind of seemed like Snake was finding out about the Boss for the first time from EVA in 4 when she summed a lot up, but its unclear. Details (albeit we don't know how filtered.) about Operation Snake Eater were apparently declassified by the time of 4 too so it's possible Snake knew at least a bit about the Boss. (especially if you believe the old fan theory that you're actually Solid Snake reliving the events of MGS3 via a VR simulation, whenever you play it). Whatever the case though, he didn't actually *know* her as in met her, and what knowledge he did have of her obviously wasn't personal.
@@Kiyosuki it's stated on peace walker's tapes, Boss' existence was indeed erased from history books. The story of how she went to space was amazingly interesting.
@@tfwthelsdkicksin6083 Uh... Not sure what you mean. The peace walker was a robot made from like, simulations based off of how the boss would think according to strangelove. After AL-AURELIA (The peace walker) walks towards the water and sinks off on the sea, the boss is just gone forever. There is no ghost in the machine anymore.
Also I believe Venom Snake realized The Boss vision but Solid Snake made it come true. I believe Venom mentions it in the cutscene after you collected all nukes.
That grave next to The Boss' was actually supposed to be Big Boss', considering that he was supposedly dead. The phrase "Flames of War" was specifically meant to signify that.
Funnily enough. The only people to truly embody the Boss's Ideals were those not trying to in the first Place. Solid Snake is the true embodiment of The Boss.
"To Let The World Be". The motto of Philanthropy. It took BB 50 years of warmongering to figure out what it meant, and he died immediately after doing so. Otacon got it right at the age of 25
solid snake was the one to fully achieve the boss' Will, he rejected the legacy pushed on him, became his own person similar the boss herself, she was a child of the philosophers, but rejected that calling for her own view of the world, solid snake made it his goal to secure a better future for everyone by passing on the right stuff and fight the good fight, same as the boss, who rejected the ideology of nations for her own. Both lived their lives the best they could under the circumstances. Therefore, Solid snake completed the Boss' Will. Although the biggest question to answer is: was the boss right herself?, that question is never answered properly, but that I assume is left to players interpretation, in a sense she is wrong for wanting the philosophers to form again to unite the world which kind of misuses the utopian aspect with control still implemented, however the boss tells Eva to tell big boss to just "Live" and as the video explains, that is the primary ideology. And so, her being right or wrong is irreverent in the circumstance that Solid Snake truly fulfilled her will.
@@Kazuhira2249 it's Jack, why do people always say it's John. He was literally trolling Ocelot when he said his name was John, as can be seen at the end of Mgs 3 when Snake grins when Ocelot calls him John.
I thought Venom snake might did understand the boss’s will since there’s a cutscene for the nuclear disarmament, he wasn’t putting child soldiers to fight, and there’s also dialogue where he specifically says the same thing big boss said at the end of mgs4
Raiden is the one in what can be considered "current" times in Metal Gear the one following the Boss's Will, working hard to prevent mad men from trying to reshape the world. And he shall pass the one to others such as his own son or Solid and Otacon's daughter.
@@timekeeper2538 It doesn't really matter if Rising is canon or not since it's 4 years even after the latest game. Also, there's nothing concrete as to whether it is canon or not. I'd say most of the community considers Rising canon.
Ocelot did in mgs 4 even though he's beaten liquid mentally he used the facade to create a situation that the patriot AI couldn't figure out and made it possible for David and co. to take out the patriots and free information and make everyone aware and create a free world all the boss wanted to do was make a world where soldiers and people aren't controlled for reasons they don't know
MGS3 changed my perspective on what a good game was, multiple times it had me speechless and with a knot in my chest. Simply astounding. My all time favourite game.
oh my god! I was like "oh no meti might have to branch out of Jojo in his content some day that would be scary" but BAM an mgs video! perfect! Good video meti!
There's more to Skull Face than simply the atrocities he did. Here's a youtube comment that explains it the best: "Thanks to Skullface, the early concept for FOXDIE was introduced to Cypher. Thanks to Skullface, microorganisms living in and supporting human bodies (cough cough nanomachines) was also introduced to Cypher. Thanks to Skullface, the earliest “mass production” Metal Gears and nukes started popping up. But even more than that, thanks to Skullface, Zero was put in a coma. If Zero wasn’t in a coma, perhaps he could’ve reconciled with Big Boss (which his tape seems to suggest he wanted to do), turned back the Patriots, and stopped his machine before it got started. The AI would have never taken over, and the War Economy would never appear. The Snakes could have lived normal lives. The world would be left as is. Every once of misery from Ground Zeroes onward is thanks to Skullface. And nobody knows it." So in a way, he failed the worst out of everyone.
Meti I want to tell you that in my eyes you are one of the smartest RU-vidrs I've ever watched. your ability to piece together parts of different plots from the view of multiple characters and even consider why they view the world in the way they do is almost baffleing. I appreciate your videos and the work you put into them thank you very much meti-sama.
I agree yeah. Venom definitly was more close to The Boss's will than Naked. He legit saw his men as his family, he didn't force children to become soldiers (Yeah i know the original idea was from Kaz, not him, but V was the commander of DD and the last word was from him, and he agreed to give the children an actual future instead of using them as soldiers) He also got rid of most nukes in the world as it was stated in both the nuclear disarmament ending and MG2 Solid Snake intro. He retreats the bandana from The Boss and in the previously mentioned diarmament ending, he express he wanted to put his gun down unlike Naked. He never met her just like Solid, but the big difference between V and S is the fact that Solid wasn't in the situation Venom was when he realised the truth about himself. Just like The Boss, Venom putted his duty as a soldier above anything else, wich Naked used to force V to do true barbaric stuff to the world in order to cover his tracks.
Thanks to you now I know how to explain Metal Gear Series to my friends! Loved this video! I couldn’t suscribe because I already am! You’re pretty good!
Haha, it was kind of fitting for the moment though. “The world is yours” sounds relevant to The Boss’s will. Apart from Solid, Nas was the only one to truly understand the Boss 😂
The JoJo reference is that following the will of the Boss, which was nothing more than her wishing that things could be different so that she and everyone else she cared about could stop suffering in the end, was *_MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDAAAA!!!_*
The gravestone snake salutes has written in it "a hero forever loyal to the flames of war, rests in outer heaven. 193X - 1999" grey fox couldn't have been born in the 30's. The boss' grave is besides big boss' and has in it "in memory of a patriot who saved the world. 192X - 1964". Snake didn't even know about the boss before meeting eva and could not know that that was her grave
I really enjoyed this it explained mostly everything I didn't know about the plot of metal gear and I wouldn't mind seeing more metal gear videos if you're interested
Big Boss never wanted to create Venom. Zero did. When Venom recover ALL his memorys he decide to follow big Boss plan. And ocelot help creating Venom to.
I feel like her will isn't about wanting to dominate the world and uniting it or just leaving the world as it is, but rather it was to let everyone go on their seperate ways and not make enemies.
And solid snake is the dominant clone liquid was the recessive clone. Liquid's misunderstanding of dominant and recessive is what made him think he was the inferior clone when in reality he was the superior one.
Honestly, the boss’s will is kinda flawed because the world wasn’t all cooperative before ww2. The conditions pre ww2 is what gave rise to Nazism. Not to mention that it was the era of European imperialism throughout the world where they had divided up countries that served as resource feeders for their governments. And over in the east, you had Japan embarking on imperialism trying to assert their dominion over the region. China and Japan weren’t friends lol
Came for mgs video. was very pleased. already seen shimoneta. hope theres a second season. sees jojo references in comments for parts that havent been animated bc i dont read nigga. spoilers avoided. pretty damn good day
Single-handedly the most emotional boss fight I ever had to go through in the entire time period of me playing video games. Yeah sure Roach, Ghost and Soap's deaths are hard to watch but this is the hardest of them all. She betrayed her country alright, because she had a reason. She didn't defect to the Soviet Union, nor was she a war criminal. She wanted to make the two nations that divided up the world into two factions realize that their senseless differences and useless rivalry was slowly consuming them and the world was slowly being broken up into pieces with their own indivdualist ideals, all bent on one thing, TOTAL ANNIHILATION. One nation was against the other, constant revenge, constant bloodthirst. The Boss wanted the world to put an end to all of it, she wanted the world to be whole again, not by armed military takeovers, revolutions or global control using digital information control or anything like that, but just plain peace. No hostilities, no wars, just plain peace. She betrayed America because America betrayed her, the sacrifices she made, the service she rendered was accepted wholeheartedly by the US government, instead they paid her back with treachery and sheer indignity just so they can get the upper hand against the Soviet Union. She never wanted to kill Snake, you can see she was clearly helping him throughout the story. She would never kill her own, she basically adopted Snake by training him and passing on what she learned to him. But Snake, still a government tool by this time was forced to kill her, for the sake of the mission. The Boss understood that, and she never flinched at the prospect of death, death at the hands of her own disciple, her own son. When she gave birth to her real child, Ocelot, he was taken from her by the very people she thought she trusted. Then, she had another child, one she raised and trained to be just like her in combat. But once again, her nightmare came back and her second child, Big Boss became a government tool, this time, to kill her. Yet, she refused to kill him, and accepted that the most honorable way to die was to be killed by her own. All she ever wanted, was the illusion we call, "peace..."
The Boss was told to pretend to defect, to gain info on the Russians and their nuclear intentions; she wouldn’t have had to die if DickShit Electroman didn’t shoot off a nuke at his own land Tensions grew and the US had no choice but to have Boss killed to prove they were innocent in the affair. Had the nuke never been fired, she and Snake would’ve still been together
