That six pack is awesome. Not everyone wants to spend hundreds to get a vintage yackface. You can also resell the other five toys if you don't want them. They sell pretty well. I think it's good they altered the package, so that way people don't try to pass them off as the original.

@@GQJedi I totally agree, there are a lot of things wrong with that figure, in my eyes. They wasted an opportunity to make a POTF Wedge style figure instead with removable helmet. That's just me, though.

Turned Wicket into Princess Kneesa, Ackbar into a generic tan suited Mon Calamari communications officer, my second Gamoren and my third Royal Guard, and of course added Mon Mothma to the Rebel Base display and finally have a Yak Face! 4 wins, 2 ties, and no losses. Pretty good set for less than a repro Yak Face.

I did buy this box set pretty much just for the Mon Mothma. I do half-heartedly collect the Retro line though, meaning I'll pick them up if I see them cheap enough or in a clearance bin. It is a scam to make folks buy the whole box set though just to get one or two figures. At least a couple of them can be used as army builders, and the Yak Face is kind of cool since the original one is so rare. Now I can keep my original Yak safely with my primes and still have one to use in a diorama. I agree she should have come with a Madine staff and not a gun, but I kept the gun with mine just to keep it complete. I bet the geniuses at Hasbro saw Retroblasting's Star Wars Follies episode about the ROTJ figures mostly coming with sticks and so few guns and decided to "compensate" with a gun where a stick should be. I have a spare Madine staff I can give my MM if need be.

Yeah, I'm also a mainly vintage collector myself but I can see why you got this one. There's still those handful of figures that we didn't get back in the day. So what about the re-issue of the Escape From the Death Star board game that comes with Grand Moff Tarkin? I bought one myself. I just had to add a vintage style Tarkin to go along with the rest of my vintage figures.

I agree with you on the Retro line. I'm not interested in the Retro collection, but there are very few that I actually want. So far, the only Retro figures I have are Jedi Luke and the "Kenobi" Darth Vader. I was actually excited when I saw the Mon Mothma figure was coming out, but I'm definitely not going to pay $70-90+ on the whole set just for her. I also agree with you on the repro issue, but I'm the type of guy who is not anti-repro yet I don't welcome it. The ONLY figures I have fake weapons for is Endor Leia and Jedi Luke (from the Retro Jedi Luke). She looks great in your collection. :) Thanks for the video

Kind of wild when Mon Mothma is the highlight of a figure set, even over Yak Face. The true epitome of collecting as an adult 🤣. That said, Mon Mothma was certainly the figure I had my eye on from this release. Unfortunately I wasn't keen on having to buy a 6-pk box to get it, but did anyway. I would have loved to pick up a 2nd for my loose collection, but a loose (from the boxed set) Mon Mothma on the secondary market costs as much as the original price of the whole pack these days. Oof! I am happy that your friend ended up sending this to you. I do think this is an amazing offering. One I think either of us would have picked up from Stan Solo/Custom market if it was offered too. Hasbro did a good job both selecting this character as well as making one that truly fits into any vintage Kenner collection. I love it, just wish it was easier to come by. I know maybe blasphemous, but I'm hoping that Hasbro will continue with the retro line, and that will get some more great figures that we never had back in the '80s - especially offerings like Tarkin and Mon Mothma.

It's crazy how difficult she is to come by. I didn't realize she was like spice from Kessel. LOL. I'm glad that we both have one though. She does fit in and that's why I'm keeping her. Who knows that Hasblo will do in the future?! They aren't too bright and I wouldn't expect much from them, my man.

I just bought a retro Han for a friend of mine. Mint on Card. Ive given him some of my vintage figures over the years. He confessed recently that he had the Falcon when he was a kid, but never Han Solo?! I was like awnh! I even had Han growing up! They havnt retro-ed the Bespin Han?! So i went with the original. Fingernailed off that stupid, stupid sticker. I hope he likes it.

I guess that would be a 0 back card. I do like this line though. I sold all my figures back in 84 and regret it always. I do like the ANH and ESB retro to rekindle the old memories for about 25 bucks a pop in the secondary market.

I'm in the same situation as you buddy, I hate hasbro trash and putting this figure in a box set to make people pay 90 dollars for it is a cruel but predictable move. The box sets are sold out by sculpers and that figure now goes for $70+ on the secondary market so I guess I'll never own one. If they bought it out for like 12 dollars on its own, I'd buy one. Just one, but they won't. Great video, thank you.

I kind of think of the Mon Mothma in the same vein as Stan Solo. I do think the retro sticker and weathering are a bit much and show a disconnect with the vintage collecting community. The back of the card is a total miss for sure. They already include the legalese that modern regulations require with the insert under the figure’s feet. I do like these, especially the unreleased figures and rare reproductions, but I’d love them if they left off the retro sticker and weathering and included cross sale figure photos on the back.

I have one Retro figure in my collection. It was a droid from Obi wan show that I liked and knew they’d never do in modern vintage collection (it’s weird to say that lol). I agree so much on the packaging. I don’t get it at all. Figure is just ok but have no desire for any more. This and tarkin are tempting to add to my vintage SW but not worth the board game or the 6-pack imo.

It is funny, I bought one of the earlier Hasbro 6 packs with C-3PO and R2 and my original thought was I would use the Hasbro weapons from some of the other figs in the box to replace the Jawa and Sandperson Kenner weapons I had lost from my childhood collection. After seeing them in hand, I changed my mind and I decided to go after original Kenner weapons from the 80s. Nothing but true Kenner can scratch that itch!

GQJ I ababsolutely agree with you on the newer cardbacks....they are horrible. Thank you for sharing another great video and opinions on these new cardbacks and figures. Another figure I wished we got back in the day but unfortunately Kenner stopped producing Star Wars figures after Return Of The Jedi and that was definitely one of the most disappointing things I went through when I was a kid. Went to child world toy store one day and the shelves were filled with Kenner Star Wars figures,ships and playsets and literally the next day the shelves were empty. If you don't want the gun put it in an envelope and send it my way. I collect vintage and modern. I also love all the Star Wars shows. In 2021 I watched everything Star Wars in sequence to that point. It took me a few months. I am hoping to do it again next year or the year after. My view point on reproduction accessories is as long as you clarify in the display it is a repo it is OK. I liked your video even though you were a bit harsh on the weapon. Also your collection is RAD! Thank you!

The Retro sticker is overkill. Wasn't necessary. It's so incredibly obvious that the cards for the Retro Collection are not from the 70's or 80's. So many clues. I have a few Retro Collection figures that my wife has gotten me, and I do display them as they are the only on card figures I have, but I never look at the back of the cards. Very ugly card backs. I like them because mint on card figures from the old days are insanely expensive now. This Mon Mothma is very cool. They did at least make her look like figures from back then. Yeah, I doubt that the carded figures in the Retro Collection will ever be worth big bucks MOC. This figure looks very good. She really fits in with The Emperor and the Dignitaries that they did back then. She does look somehow both like the figures from back in the day and like Caroline Blackiston who played her in ROTJ. Good sculpt there. The Retro Collection accessories are different enough that anyone who cares about avoiding repros ought to be able to tell. I really don't mind repro or custom one bit as long as the seller doesn't charge big bucks for it. I'm glad that they are putting the modern COOs on these Retro figures so that people will never mistake them for figures made in the 70's or 80's. Most of the modern figures I've gotten have most of their markings on the bottom of the feet. I think that's a great idea so that it doesn't mark up the legs. You can send the repro accessories to me. :) I don't mind them. I would probably give this blaster to my 70's Princess Leia so that I don't have to spend big bucks to get an original 'Palace Blaster' for her.

Always preferred the STAR WARS five POA style to the figures that had the elbows and knees joints. As a child, my SW figures lasted longer than the BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY figures did - more durable. Only had to worry about the heads coming off - unless they were certain SW figures (Jawa, Stormtroopers, Chewbacca ... etc). @@GQJedi

Lot of background characters got a figure. Aliens are cool. Makes sense. Weird how some characters made the cut and others did not.

The international text is unfortunately for the look of the packaging, something that is mandated by law. I'm glad I found just her at a local comic book store for $15.00.

@@GQJedi I would prefer if the backs looked like the old backs as well. I have a couple of these in my case, but only the ones that are more expensive to get complete like Yoda and Fett. The rest of them are either OG or Stan Solo for ones like Yack Face, Lightsaber R2, and a few others. .

what law would that be? lol. there are certain marks you have to put on products, e.g. the CE mark for europe. EU marks have to be appropriate and in compliance with the new world order's over-regulations, but all that crap they put on the back just saves ha$blo money with individual packaging.

All laws aside, the card backs of the Indiana Jones line had pictures yet the SW Retro line is still generic and pathetic. They could’ve changed it but they don’t.

Still. I agree that it is ugly and miss the days when they had the lineup on the back. Even the Vintage Collection figures have the pictures of that wave on the back.

Being in Australia, I had to eBay this from a seller in the US as tbe Retro multi-packs aren't released here. She cost me more than a pretty penny! 😐 Glad to have her, but sheez, Hasbro make it hard for some to actually buy their products.

They do look nice when the sticker is removed & in a star case. The back of the card is ridiculous still. But they are coming unpunched now and thicker card stock. The actual figures themselves have improved. So it is what it is.

Anything past 1985 is technically modern. 100%. I assumed that was obvious and didn't need to state it. I've used the lighter fluid method more times than I can count. But I hate the idea of what Hasbro has done with these cardbacks in general. You are right though - "So it is what it is."

I broke down and ordered the set just to get the Mon Mothma. The Yak Face is really cool also although I have an original vintage. The only “modern” that makes its way in my display case is The Retro Tarkin, Mon Mothma and Stan Solo! Great video GQ.

Yep, Retro collection blows EXCEPT the characters we didn't get back in the day. The cards could've been exciting to have but most of us hate the sticker, the rubs on the edges, and no pix on the back. At least it's "unpunched". I agree we all have our niches and just, "Collect or Collect Not, there is no try".

Does it bother you that the Dollar Tree can produce a line of articulated action figures similar and even superior in quality to the 80's GI Joe and sell them for $1.25, but Hasbro is unable to create barely articulated inaction figures with substandard paint applications for prices which do not require loans and financing? The toy industry in general has become the Empire and the poor, like Luke who would have shopped at the Dollar Tree if there had been one on Tatooine, bear the brunt of their boots.

The packaging is pretty ugly, I agree. I can see why Hasbro wanted to do something to make retro look different from vintage, so that even if you weren't an expert you could easily tell them apart. Imagine if they were better copies of the vintage cards, the protests that would follow about confusing the market, circulating counterfeits etc. And expert collectors like you would know the difference, sure, but loads of people starting out, or who are casual collectors, could be duped, so Hasbro seem to be trying to be responsible, even if their solution isn't the prettiest - although why they need to stick that sticker on the front and ruin the aesthetic... yeah, I dunno about that one either. Especially on a figure that ever even existed back in the day. But complaining about the ID stamps on the bottom - come on, you have to give them a break about that. I know nothing about toy production, but clearly they're batch numbers of some sort which are part of the modern production process. They were never an aesthetic decision. They wouldn't be there if they weren't necessary, so I don't think we can complain about a 2024 toy being made to 2024 standards.

Hasbro is losing so much money right now. They simply don’t know what they’re doing with Star Wars. In a panic, they started the “cheaper” 4-inch Epic Hero Series. These basic-articulated figures are doomed to failure and will end up at Ollie’s again. For the last three months of 2023, Hasbro lost $1.06 billion. I’m not buying any of this crap. I suspect that they’re going to lose the license, because they won’t be able to afford it.

Bahhaha! That's actually funny because I heard there are 2 different face/head sculpts on Mon. I'm just glad I got one with a face that has matching eye placement. I have heard that sometimes Hasbro releases figures that have mismatched eye levels with their paint apps. Quality control went right out the window. So I'm relieved I didn't get "Heyyyyy you, Guys!!" - Sloth Mothma.

@@GQJedi 🤣 exactly! I was able to track down the two variants and the eyes aren’t wonky 🤣 IMHO I think you got the best of the two variants. The other one (production 31…) the face is more pointy and the hair/head looks a bit different. Still if I were you, I’d try to find one… it might be more hard to find as time goes by. As for the card and the included weapon for Mon, Hasbro sucks. Big time.

I don't understand the (constant) complaints in your video. The type of package and presentation you are looking for (with the Kenner logo on it) is called "The Vintage Collection". The fact you prefer to buy "Retro" instead is on YOU only. You're clearly not the customer base (a collector one) and you just destroyed the package anyway, so hearing all this negativity is just a disservice for the true fanbase. Seems that based on your comment that you are new to the channel. That's obvious. Regardless, I stated at the onset of this video that I only collect vintage. I'm not LOOKING for anything nor did I actually BUY Retro. I didn't buy anything here. So there is no preference. This figure was gifted to me. But you clearly didn't pay attention to the video and instead are trying to talk down to me like some elitist collector. Don't try to tell me what what kind of collector I am or what fan base I belong to. You are incredibly short sighted and way too self entitled.

I am free to use my channel as I see fit as does any content creator. However, I reviewed the entire moc and figure fairly. Not sure why you feel like you can tell me what I can and cant talk about.
