Hauling a Dirty old TrackHoe 

Cleaning the mud off the road after you pull out.....As a motorcyclist in your neck of the woods I thank you, not too many guys would take the time to do that. We appreciate it 👍

Years ago my uncle was moving a D9 at about 4 am it started raining the it turned to ice. On a lonely stretch of highway he slid off the road on to the median the trailer went sideways hit a small banking and the dozer slid off. Didn't hurt the trailer or the dozer but dug up the median pretty badly. So my uncle graded it back as best he could with the D9 and was loading it back on the trailer when the state trooper showed up. My thought OK now I'm screwed. Cop says you should really have a detail hear when your doing this. My uncle thinking fast says yeah I thought you where my detail they where supposed to hear an hour ago I'm done now and just loading up. So the cop stays while he loads it up then stops traffic so he can pull out. Sometimes your lucky and sometimes your very very lucky (I should point out that there was a lot of work going on on that whole road for 2 years)

Thank you for pointing out to people the reason for travel time on the bill. I get tired of explaining why I charge them for hauling me and my gear 15 miles to their job site and being told that I'm ripping them off when I charge for fuel-miles.

I'm so impressed with what you have done in your young age. Doing everything yourself. Its no small thing. I'm in my 30's and have done a lot of the same things you have Running a business, Owning / fixing equipment.....Yet you take it to the next level. I can see you doing great things.

When you unloaded the excavator of the trailer back at the farm, I thought you were driving "backwards" because the little blade you use for backfilling that you talked about in a previous video was behind you, the funny thing was at the end of the video you turned the cab around and drove "forwards" with the backfill blade in front where it should be, what I find amazing because of the 360 degree turn radius you have with the machine, you work in any direction you want, very cool Matt.

Before I retired, I used to tell customers that it costs me money just to get the truck, trailer and equipment to and from the job, they never complained when I explained the costs of the equipment, maintenance, insurance and depreciation before we even started the job. Great video's, Thanks

I like how you cleaned up the street in front of the church, I know it's your church and you don't want to piss off the neighbors, But I see lots of trucks drive off a construction site and put mud all over the road and drive away!

I used to haul heavy equipment nation wide with a RGN trailer, your tie down was EXACTLY how I hauled tracked machines! Never a problem with DOT. 😁

It is abundantly clear that Mr. Diesel Creek is a very good operator and he demonstrates than he is a worker too. I meant no disrespect but only kudos to Mr. Camarata. Being around heavy equipment operators will expose you to the fact that many can pick up an robins egg with a large excavator but will not leave the seat or help do anything

I am subscribed to a Canadian trucker channel here on this website, he hauls internationally including Mexico, and he uses that type of chain tensioner on his chains all the time. He hasn't had problems with any fines in any country .There are ratchet design chain tensioners on the market now for all weight categories that can be tightened using only a battery powered drill.

All while a rack of rolling rock in the seat! Yep that’s construction!!! Love it!

You do everything I used to do. Clean the tracks, clean off the trailer, chain it down, and clean up the road. I just never got to run the machine

Thank you Matt, I was taught that lesson of cleaning machinery at the gate 42 years ago when I was living on a mates farm, we used to insist that any visiting contractors, ie harvesting equipment etc that came on the property be washed down at the gate, at least you would like to hope you cut down on some, weed, pest and disease problems. I have been at my 94 years old mum for decades now when the lawn mower man comes to cut her lawn to wash his gear out the front but no... She can't understand why she has so many weeds in the lawn! I suppose it keeps the L. M. M in business as he is the one who sprays for weeds as well! Tony from Western Australia 🇦🇺

Others have covered most of what I had planned to comment.😁 One thing I did like though was that wee scene at the end of the video. Rolling up to the camera in the machine, talking to camera, then rumbling off again, very neatly done. 👍👌😁 I watch a fair bit of YT and I notice when folks make that extra effort - it looks good.

At 18:30 it dawned on my why I could never be a RU-vid videographer. I would set up the camera on the tripod to capture driving away and then keep driving. A few miles down the road I would remember and return to find the camera/tripod gone.

Chaining to the tracks is perfectly legal. You did a proper job! I haul equipment for a rental company. i have 12 binders on the side of my trailer and some loads i use every one. There's still people that throw one chain on a machine and say "that aint goin anywhere!"

@ 9:43, I was expecting to see you use that big pry bar to flip the ramps over! Oh yea, back when I had to work for a living, my least favorite job was loading and binding down all the equipment needed to take to a job, knowing I would have to do it all again to get back to the shop, was something I tried not to think about ☺

My excavator has that exact thumb, I added 2 more fingers which put a finger between each tooth on my 2’ bucket and a finger on each tooth of my 18” bucket. I must say, of all the modifications I’ve ever done that was by far the best. Enjoyed the video,stay safe and have fun!

The real secret to making sure your load is properly secured to the trailer or truck bed is to remember one thing: you will never get a ticket for using more load securement than you need. Five or ten minutes to throw an extra strap or chain is always worth it.

OK, a behind the scenes or OTW idea; Driving the 10ton, or, how a 2spd axle works and how to shift/drive it. Most 'Honda Civic' drivers have no idea.

Haven't watched the channel in a minute so catching up today and it took me longer than I'd like to admit to realize you were putting pressure on the bucket on the ground to give the tracks a little lift for turning so they wouldn't tear up the yard.

I haul a machine of similar size and chain it down the same way. 3 chains with each tie down pulling from the center point. Dirt perfect did a good video on securing loads too. Love the little komatsu.

I've never secured equipment by the track plates. Mind you,, the only thing we have here with tracks is the bulldozer, and for a long time we didn't have a trailer that could take the weight of it, so it got walked everywhere. And then left wherever it was last used (or close by). No point walking it back to the house when it's next job was likely to be somewhere a long way away.

I like when you tighten the binders, you are pulling them tight. Too many truckers get hurt by pushing the binders. Same thing with ratchet straps..

I work pipeline for 18 years I am a Teamster the rule of thumb is have enough riggin to pick that load off the trailer but you might need an extra one a chain every 10 feet but you have to balance your load on your trailer with your truck better

I’ll never understand why equipment like this doesn’t come with dedicated tie down points. They know it will all end up on a trailer at some point, probably hundreds of times. Why not define safe points to tie down!

Here in Kansas lots of backhoes in the oil fields , those guys bolt a small steel plate to trailer floor where bucket linkage rests, makes floor board in that area last a lot longer.

Channing to the tracks it’s fine at least four points of securement piece of machinery depending on the weight your chain size and your ratchet binder ratings

I have always chained to the tracks. Never had an issue with D.O.T or the machine. Even going across multiple states.

personally,I almost never handle my ramps by hand. I put them down with the bobcat mini x on the trailer before unloading,put them up with mini ex after unloading,put them back down with mini ex to reload,and then pick them back up for towing with the mini ex. I feel like this is the plus of an excavator and I didn't spend 38,000 dollars on it to break my back and not use the hydraulic power that I paid for. just my $.02,it works for me!

Never hauled heavy equipment but used to pull a ton of office trailers with my dad. And that has that same kind of things that many don’t think of. Pulling the trailer was only part of the job. There was also parking it where the customer wants it (at times you really had to ask where the customer thinks a 1 ton dually pulling 40+ foot trailers can go lol) and then block and level the trailer, set up and level the steps, and so on. And of course you had the occasional times where they don’t tell you everything you need to know, such as putting the trailer on a dirt pad that you come to find out after the fact that it was fresh sod covered fill less than a week old that turns into quicksand and you literally end up with the frame of the truck sitting on the ground... that one was a real mess, and one hell of a long day, but ended up being one hell of a story as well lol Fun job and got to see places all over Pa, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland (and a few others but not commonly) Got to see some really cool places too. All kinds of construction sites, a prison, nearly every power plant in western Pa, steel mills, and so on. But those times dwindled as they ended up going to company trucks and hourly drivers instead of owner operators like we were. There are times I miss that adventure, but some I’m sure I’m looking back on with rose colored glasses haha Anyways, great video! I will have to check out the videos of your truck. Has a surprisingly nice turbo sound for what I’d guess is a DT466. (Also, being that you don’t say I won’t mention names, but I’m pretty sure I’ve been down in that area a few times as some places looked familiar lol)

Matt, I'll have you know that my little (1989) Honda Civic rarely waits for a pump nozzle and she still gets me 33mpg year round average. We've been to the moon (250,000 miles-ish) and eventually we'll return to Earth. (510,000 ish.) Screw Pennsylvania and salty roads... I'm getting tired of welding the poor girl....

Well you are correct on how your chaining it as long as you have slack on the middle of the chain your good to go.

ALL trailer jack feet are broken!!! All trailers like yours include an 8”x8” block of wood with purchase just for that reason! Lol

A big truck? You are joking of course! A suggestion for loading your equipment on the trailer, if it is the trailer you always, or usually use, put a paint mark (neatly of course :-)) on the floor of the machine and a mark corresponding to the one on the machine on the edge of the trailer (maybe a different colour for each machine) so as you drive on to the trailer all you have to do is align the two marks and you're done - a bit like they have on the tarmac at the air bridge at the airport - a mark for each model of 'plane so the air bridge and the aircraft doors align. The reason some say not to chain to tracks is because of the stress put on the closest track pin which isn't designed to take the weight or stresses of the full dynamic loads imposed when transporting the machine. If your pins are in good condition it possibly doesn't matter, but, the manufacturer will say that they put tie down points on a machine for a reason, although yours are not noticeable if they're there.

You can't go wrong crossing the chains. I learned loading M109a2 Howitzers and M548a1's on railcars it Germany. Never lost one thankfully. (8th Infantry Div. 29th Field Arty)

LOL - the "proper way" is so that the load does not escape if you hit someone or someone hits you. However that works. Apart from that - load stays on during travel and that is usually much easier than the "not escape" requirement.

Yeah ur right you're aloud to hook to the tracks on an excavator or dozer. An if you ever get the chance to get or use a speed binder they are nice.

Hi neighbor. Last weekend I heard Arlo Guthrie's song Alice's Restaurant and immediately thought of your church project. Alice had to live in the bell tower because of all the stuff and garbage that was being stored in the church hall.

I think it’s a good idea to explain how you know where your trailer is compared to the pintle of the truck and what your looking for when backing up to the trailer. I when I would back to a trailer, I always had a picture of the trailer in the mirror that I knew where it was.
