Exactly, I can excuse 30- A width and depth cup in XS H&M dress but custom designer dress that has cups half the width of client's bust is cringe, and so are tiny cups on above 0 sizes in clothes made and marketed towards more mature women. I personally don't know any woman who has breasts this narrow. These cups look more like...nipple hats?
@CKLee-rs4kl You'll have to go back to before the gilded age to ask that question. Imagine being pulled in all day by a steel and whale bone corset, with no circulation and forced to sit completely upright all day while being buttoned up to your neck. There was no "chillin out" in your sweats, kicked back with your feet on the furniture. I'm a guy, but I admit women go through PAIN to be beautiful. Then and now and I certainly do appreciate it.
@@CALLMESIR...actually, the common corsets back then weren’t meant to be restrictive. Working women wore them. What you are describing is called tight lacing but that wasn’t the norm either (they played with shoulder & skirt volume to make their waists look smaller and still stay comfortable). The whale boning was specifically used bc it was flexible. If you’re interested in learning more about Victorian & Edwardian era clothing I recommend searching for Bernadette Banner here on RU-vid, among other things she has several videos about common corset myths.
Man, the thought of Thom Browne’s Chanel is the most excitement I’ve felt from a sentence with the word “Chanel” in it… perhaps ever?!? Loving those Thom trompe l’œil looks also. Very Roberta di Camerino!
I personally feel like Balenciaga needs a new CD, so sick of seeing the same same, same but different gimmicks, yes boring is the word. Also the scandal... They need a brand new creative vision, petition to have Demna removed
just when i was sitting here wondering who these people were you gave a thumbnail about someone named griff. please do that with everyone. i am a 77 year old woman who watches because you are articulate and knowledgeable and i continue to learn things and see interesting clothing. does not make a huge difference . i wouldn't google anyone. not that interested. but i would like to know something basic like actor, singer, stage, writer, wealthy vapid jerk with money to burn. might explain their clothing choices. anyway.. i think you are wonderful and i really enjoy watching your thoughts. great job.
actually it has been chilly in Paris lately that's the reason why everybody is not in a summer look. I love the Griff/Chanel look, in the stairs of Opéra de Paris !
Still so amazed I met you at the airport a few weeks ago! Currently sick with COVID, so this video is a very nice break from an otherwise boring day of reading for class
Can Balenciaga just quarantine themselves for a while? Just give themselves some time to think, ya know? I, and I am sure others would appreciate it...
This is finally the video where I like a lot of the looks. If I had the means and body frame to wear these looks I would wear the heck out of a bunch of these even some of the ones you didn’t like. And there weren’t many I didn’t like! Which is rare.
I always felt like new haute couture has been missing something 1. Camera grain 2. Accessories unique accessories 3. Not letting the clothes wear you But I do love Kylie’s and Avril (though I don’t understand the sheet over the face on Kylie’s look).
Casper the mattress company came out with a comforter jacket that is gorgeous. Just think it’s funny that that was mentioned for Kylie’s outfit, definitely gave me that vibe as well
When the note is that you are not living, laughing, or loving I expect a LOT more shade... my favorite part of your show is your snarky but well-informed comments, give us more, please.
I mean the grey is more accurate to Amelia Earheart if that’s what they were going for so I don’t hate the brown/grey combo. I liked Cate’s look as well and I didnt hate JLo’s look. I think they were trying to add visual interest to an otherwise boring look. And Thom Browne is PERFECT for Chanel. I honestly think his aesthetic is the perfect POV for Chanel to take for the future. There is a lot of symbiosis between Chanel and Brown house codes.
Doja’s hat reminds me of the bucket type hats women wore in the 1930s. Very similar shape to many of those and a bit of a fusion with the modern baseball cap.
The belt for Jisoo's Dior dress is a definite nod to a midevil sword belt or a kilt belt. The tip off is the knot the belt is tied in at the side of the waist. Very appropriate for a "chain mail" dress.
I just could never get into Thom Brown because his proportions are so, so, so unflattering for women so often. Unless you have a perfect shape, he just makes you look so boxy and large
12:15 not sure if anyone else is seeing that strange creature face in the pattern on the upper bodice. At first glance the surrounding fabric worked like visual distraction for me but then I noticed that face pattern. It looks like some sort of mythological beast suddenly emerging out of fog. I think this dress plays around with attention of the onlooker quite nicely.
I do not care for many of the designer creations. I do not want my clothes to be see thru or look like they are falling off or look uncomfortably restrictive. I want beautiful clothes with beading, sequins, elaborate embroidery, colorful, great fabrics, well made. Where are those clothes? Why don't I see more of those clothes?
I agree; a lot of these outfits are only meant to be worn on the runway. I guess pert-a-porte would have more Beautiful clothes that actually enhance a woman's figure.
Kylie’s face mask seems like a last minute addition. She can’t control which pictures get published at events like this. Last year people noticed how different she looks in real life compared to how she looks in her usual heavily filtered pictures. Looks like they added a real life filter to this look. It would have been a good retort to the criticism if it had been done in a better way.
Let’s see: July in Paris - yet an abundance of blacks, browns, greys, tweeds, leathers, fur-like materials, boots, heavy gloves, layers, jackets, and coats. Really? But then, some super dark sunglasses even when not in direct sunlight. It mostly seemed artificial and a bit ridiculous.
The weather in Western Europe has been shite in the first half of July. I live in Belgium and wore a turtle neck last week. I really do wish we had a proper summer lol
That is the best I have seen Serena in ages. Her last dozen looks have looked very much like she was squeezing into them and were just not flattering. Loved the leather skirt Kerry wore, loved Doja, always stan Jodi. Cate is my queen and can do no wrong and I need that jumpsuit.
@@RubmaLioneI know. But it’s not like current Balenciaga is not problematic or Karl was not problematic. Besides, Luke does cover DG looks in red carpets and fashion roasts.
I'm truly sorry Luke, but on this occasion Tom Browne gave Serena the silhouette of a pop tart... she couldn't even sit comfortably while wearing that corset thing
This is what happens when you put to much emphasis on d list celebrities to make your brand bigger. I don't get influenced by anyone but my own taste and money. If I want a Chanel or Versace piece I save for it don't care if it was last years. To many so called celebrities are actually doing the more harm to the brand.
@hautelemode could you make a video about how/when Emma chamberlain when from "relatable, sweatpants, messy bun" to fashion girly? I truly don't get it.. seems like so out of her wheelhouse/off brand
Love your reviews! I give Serena an A; I give Katy Perry a D (because she forgot to put her clothes on) and that last outfit -- made that beautiful woman look like an imitation Botero painting which earns the designer a D.
I loved Rosamund Pike's look. It was edgy and feminine, I loved the juxtaposition. I especially liked the sock/pump combo. Kiera Knightly, not good. Katy Perry, WTF?
Katy Perry seems to be going for a rebrand and reboot that no one was asking for. Between this new look, and her video for "Women's World", she just seems a little desperate at this point.
To be completely honest I feel that Kyle's schiapparelli look head piece was a Suttle and small way to say what she was very much criticized lately and the fact that she commented on that over the kardashian show and yet again being criticized for it
Not everyone has the same ideas about fashion and haute couture. But Viktor and Rolf might also be something for people who value extravagance. For some people, the craftsmanship and the further development of fashion, the correspondence with people's current lives, are not that important. Then you find this fashion boring. I find the collections mentioned excellent, innovative and of course anything but boring.
