🤣 wow this comment got some likes 🤣 I didn’t want to burn up the esc using it “improperly” for the review video. Don’t worry I’m working on this next video as fast as possible 🤣🤣
@@DerbyCityRC you should make a video comparing this 2996 on 3S against your brushless 2995! Something tells me the 2995 is faster because of your setup. I'm just really hoping this 2996 has better diffs, not that the originals are that bad. They're great, but I want a brushless 3s-4s setup with 1/10 crawler wheels and stronger diffs that can handle it.
Yes I do this comparison on this next video and….well…. I’m a bit shocked! Lol I personally have yet to have a single failure out of any of these diffs. And you’ve seen what I’ve done in my past 2995 vids 🤣. These things are amazing!
Great review! I believe the ESC is 35 amps. I got excited when I heard HBX came out with a 1/10 scale thinking it might actually be a standard 1/10 size. Looks like a great durable truck though. I do wish it had a bigger battery tray and higher amp esc.
It’s funny because they call the 2995 a 1/12 scale. But I guess the bigger wheels crossed the 1/10 scale line lol. Yes it would have been nice if they did something for the battery tray. Surely they’ve heard that complaint on several occasions. And making it 3s capable should have been a no brainer lol we’ll Find out if it can take it lol!
How am I supposed to sleep at night knowing that green terror is on the loose! Seriously, though, you keep outdoing yourself! Genius. Max's response was priceless. And god damn, if this truck isn't awesome. Potential is sky high, can't wait to see where you take it.
Haha! I know man! It was in my own back yard! Had me cornered in my own shop! Good thing he bonked his head on the bug zapper and ran off…for now. Ya the truck is great and can’t wait to get this next phase of it out!!
Ya they make a heck of an RC! It could use a bit more top speed but it’s on par with its class for sure. Has much better durability and handling than most though!
I was looking at all these buggies people were raving about but then i realised they are all 1/16 or 1/14 scale. Just found a brushless one of these for $120 new. Nice
Another great job Evan, Its hard to beat the 2995. I did a complete upgrade to mine and it is simply awesome .I spent the extra and did a Spectrum 85a upgrade package, total Beast. Those 2995 vids got me hooked. Thanks again for your time with this review
Awesome man. Ya I bet the Spektrum kit is even crazier than the Hobbywing. Nice thing about the Hobbywing kit is the esc fits in the original space and I don’t believe the Spektrum does, but I’m having a hard time finding the Hobbywing sets anymore. Glad you like the vids man!!!
Do you think the tires from the rival mt10 would be too heavy for the 2996a? I have some 110mm short course truck tires on it right now and they do really well all around. But I think those mt10 tires would look really good on it
Has anybody found an upgraded servo that fits in without a whole lot of modification? I got a 2996a recently and the only thing I don't really love is the quite weak/slow steering, but having trouble finding an alternative servo so far.
Thanks. I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think they’re different. Been too long since I’ve run my 2995, but definitely seems similarly geared to the FC.
this channel got me hooked man. i love your chokes hehe :D . please do everything with the 2996a what comes up to your mind. i have to go bashing know. thanks for your videos man!
Hi, first of all, your videos are great. I bought the HBX 2996a 2 months ago. A great car that is a lot of fun. Since a few days I have the problem that the car becomes uncontrollable. It reverses without using the remote control. I think you have described a similar problem. Do you have a solution to this problem? Many thanks in advance for your feedback.
Well it doesn’t compare to a granite lol. Obviously this one is about half the price, but The granite is an animal of massive proportions, but wait until you see my hbx 2995 with my Hobbywing kit in it for the next video (unless you’ve seen it before in my older videos). It actually is somewhat comparable to the granite lol
@@DerbyCityRC I can't wait to see your next clip! And thanks for doing them I'm just getting into the hobby I recently got a traxxis stampede and the bronco t4m there both alot of fun especially after upgrades.. Just looking to add to the fleet.
Hello, just need a quick tip. When i accel the front wheels tend to spin more cause i can see they balloon more than the rear. I have a feeling its more FWD over all. When i free spin the rear wheel by hand they spin for almost 10 sec. Does that mean the rear diff is too loose and i need thicker diff oil to avoid FWD¿??¿
damb it your vid just cost me $265 AUD LOL. I just went camping with one of my kids we took the HBX 16899A PRO and had a ball with it, my first electric rc car. I used to have nitros as a kid these things are nuts in comparison they just go! Thanks for the vid!
Hey friend!!! I was wondering if you know if any of the differentials front or back of 2996a is the same with 901a .? I ordered a 901a but couldn't send for some reason and then i ordered the 2996a and it came but in the meantime i ordered differential for 901a and it's late to cancel them. Also fir 2996a how many amps esc you suggest for 3s lipo?? Any help would be great!!! Awesome videos you make love to see them from Greece!!!! Have a nice day!!!!
Hello! I do think the 901 diffs will fit, but really just need to try it to be sure. I’d say a decent esc with atleast 60 amos would be best! This one here should work well: amzn.to/4c0SSff. Not sure if it will fit in the exact same spot as the original.
@@DerbyCityRC thank you for your reply!!! Your videos are awesome!!! I have a little boy 17 months year old and i prepare to play with him just like you with your sons when he gets older!! When i find some time i will check if the difs are matching and i let you know!!! Thank you again my friend!!!!
@@daveeltringham8695 yes it will. My current setup is 80 amp esc 3660 brushless 4650 kv with 5mm shaft. Absolute size limit 17t mod .6 pinion gear 15mm wheel spacer. Dumbo control and reserve combo.
This channel has been absolutely unreal for learning and transparency when it comes to reviewing so many different rc’s! My question regarding the 2995/2996/2996a trucks, if the plan is to upgrade electronics, motor and suspension (even on the 2996a), are they all identical otherwise? Would there be any reason to go with the 2996a? Or would spending more and moving to the 2997 make sense? Thanks!
Thanks man I appreciate this!! 😊 So if your plan is to upgrade, the best bet would be the 2995 here: amzn.to/3IOEHgH In my opinion, it’s the best looking, the cheaper option since you’re gonna scrap the electronics anyway, and it’s almost exactly the same. Difference being the tie rods are plastic and not adjustable like on the 2997a. The 2997a electronics are decent and so far seems to take 3s no problem but I did get a faulty motor out of the box on my last one, but of course that could happen to any car. Also the 2995 tires are garbage and would want to be upgraded quickly. But the 2997a tires aren’t extravagant either lol.
Thanks for the quick response and awesome info, I forgot to say the tires would be swapped no matter what! I know you have a hobbywing combo in your 2995 but I can't recall seeing if you've posted a speed test on 3s in that truck, unless you did in the RTR vs upgrade comparison with the 2996a?? If you have, that's my bad lol One additional question, the summers get pretty hot where I am, would there be any merit to replacing the motor and ESC to be 4s capable with a mid 2000kv motor to run even more efficient and cooler? There are just so many great deals on motor and esc setups these days and that center diff has me locked on this chassis! @@DerbyCityRC
This one is more fun in my opinion. Its bigger, faster, has better handling, and similarly durable, but it is day the 16889a pro is slightly more durable only because it’s lighter.
Great video, buddy! It's a cool truck, but a bit of quality control might have been in place... I received my FC610 just a while ago, it had one shock completely with the cap tilted and another shock had leaked all the oil... Oh well, they are cheap and I was going to change those shocks anyway... Looking forward to get started on it, so obviously I won't need this one... I got the 14th scale ordered... Pretty excited about that one...
Good to know. Just opened the center diff on my original 2995 and dry as a bone! Gears are in perfect shape though so added some 100k fluid! Brand new F &R diffs had grease in them. Lol
@@DerbyCityRC i had the brushed tornado and put a 3s and lost it on a turn and the cvd broke in the joint.. that's why i was wondering for the thickness of the new one.. Thanks mate!i would like to see if it can handle 3s..
That’s surprising as I’ve abused the crap out of my 2995 lol. Definitely seems like the exact same axles as the fc610 and this new one. Hopefully just a bad metal casting for that one!
You have a new subscriber and my 2996a is on the way, thanks for your discount coupon 😉 I'm going to buy the Injora wheels and spacers that you recommend, in m4 and 15mm correct? What thickness oil do you use in the 2996a shocks? 2996a can it work with 90mm between holes? I think the upgraded shocks that you use on flyhal, 2995, and 2996a are 80mm between holes. I ask this because the Injora brand also has 80mm and 90mm shock absorbers between holes (they seem good and are reasonably priced) so I have doubts about the best configuration: 80front 80rear 80f 90r 90f 90r I suppose that in general, longer shock absorbers are better for landing on jumps, longer rear shocks favor stability under acceleration, but it is also possible that longer shocks make the center gravity higher and the car rolls over more easily in turns... What do you think?
Awesome! Glad to have you with us! I’m sure you’ll love your new RC! So the 90mm shocks should work fine. And yes the longer travel, in theory, will help with landings and likely make it too easier. I guess you saw the video I made after this one? I show the shocks I use and they come with a good weight oil in them already. The stock ones I never changed, but also really recommend 100,000 wt fluid on the center diff!
Thanks!! I address the vehicle scale size in like the first 10 seconds of the video lol And I tried it on 3s in the very next video where I compare this to my upgraded 2995.
Haha! It’s all good, but ya it’s basically a 1/12 scale with slightly larger wheels. If they came out with a true 1/10 of this car, that would be amazing!
Is the center differential so important. That I should get that truck over something like a granite 3s, horizon hobby has 50 bucks off the vortex and the granite 3S right now
If you can swing it i wouldn’t choose this over the granite. I may be getting a vorteks soon but I definitely love my granite. Center diff is a big deal for me but the granite is a beast!
Hey Derby, do you know where I can find a top mount that will fit a normal sized 20kg servo upgrade? Currently, I am only able to use 2 screws and it is going to break eventually. I recently purchased a 3d printer and I was actually able to take a picture of it using SelfCAD and print a copy of it, but modifying it so its a bit bigger, I am having trouble with. I am way to new to 3d printing software currently.
Yes this is an excellent choice. And yes it can be upgraded amazingly! My next video will be comparing it to two of the same cars that I have upgraded at different price points.
Hi. Could it be that the 901 and 903 have the same parts as the 2996a? Because I can't find any spare parts. Not even on the official website. The 2996a is also not on the Haiboxing website.
No those are totally different than the 2996a. You can click the contact button on the official site haiboxing-hobby.com and send them an email with the part you need. It shares most parts with the hbx 2995
Dumb question....I been in to rcs for a while now and have a huge collection but when it comes to dif fluid I never really paid attention and just went with what came in my rigs. What does stiffer and lighter fluid do in the cars?
Not a dumb question! It basically adds resistance inside the diff to make it not transfer power to individual wheels too easily. So depending on the thickness you put in it, it can drastically change the handling. I think I have a pretty good explanation somewhere in this video as there is too much to type lol. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GW2njyBjIjU.html I plan on making a short video on the subject soon too. 👍
Front: Thinner: Increases steering into corners (off-power) If oil is too thin the steering may become inconsistent, especially it can lose forward traction (and steering) during acceleration out of corners Thicker: Increases stability into corners during braking Increases steering on-power at corner exit Center Thinner: Front wheels unload more during acceleration Easier to drive on rough tracks If a high-power motor is used you could waste too much power and sometime “cook” the oil in the center differential because it “overloads” More off-power steering Thicker: Better acceleration Increases on-power steering (reduces understeer) Better suited on high-bite, smooth tracks Too thick oil gives more over steer Rear Thinner: Increases cornering traction Increases steering into corner Thicker: Decreases rear traction while cornering Reduces wheelspin
I like this one more. The 16889a pro probably has it beat on durability due to the fact it’s smaller, lighter weight and slightly slower, but both are awesome. Have you seen my video comparing this 2996a to my upgraded 2995? I put bigger tires on it and thicken the center diff fluid and it’s just awesome!
Hey bud i just came from running the 2996 with my kids and it broke. I see the driveshaft spins fine but the wheels dont spin. Sounds like something is loose when i press the throttle. Any idea what to look for? I bought the upgraded wheels you recommended with the 15mm spacers too. I love the truck and wheels. Sorry you are the first person i thought to ask since you are the man!!! Thanks
@@DerbyCityRC i just did a light inspection. I press the gas and front and rear axles spin with the truck off the ground. Once i put the wheels on the ground the axles stop spinning but the driveshaft still spins it looks like. All while making a not normal noise. Just fyi this happened after a nasty hit. Do you have any videos on how to take the 2996 apart? I never taken an rc apart before.
I think an inspection is in order. I’d be sooo surprised if both diffs blew out at the same time. I barely ever break diffs on these. Watch this video. It’s been almost 3 years since I made it but I think I show a chassis replacement here which should help. Let me know what you come up with. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tr1wNOoHsFI.htmlsi=mtwKiTokg1YlXXyX
@@DerbyCityRC i started taking apart the wheels and noticed the front passenger axle cup pin broke and is missing. So the front passenger wheel spins freely but the axles do not move. I ordered the front axles. But i am thinking more parts broke from the collision. If one axle cup pin broke would that make all the wheels stop spinning when on the ground? Thanks!
Would it be possible to change just esc for more capable one? And place it in the midle of a car (like in wltoys 144001)to accommodate larger battery? I want to get it but it seems bit slow to me😅
Yes I’ve for a new one I’ll be putting in it soon. Didn’t I get 28-29 mph with this? That’s higher than the average, HOWEVER!!!!, I’ve got a video coming out in about 20 minutes that’s same scale and faster!
It will slightly strengthen the connection between front and rear wheels. And I’ll use 100k fluid. The video I made after this one with this car comparing to a similar car that I upgraded shows the difference
i have been looking at this new version but I'm still happy with my brushless upgraded FC610 that runs and handles better then my blx granite... the 2996a they should of made a larger battery tray and come with a 3s capable esc. i cant not find the same body type for a FC610.... mine is destroyed. I'm using my old deerc 9200e body for now. any suggestion to find this body shell ?
Ya it likely won’t be as good as my I prefer versions but we’ll see. They are amazing handling. Did you put any diff fluids in? I haven’t found the shell yet, but you may be able to send an email to Haiboxing-hobby.com and ask about it.
I just ran it with 100k in the center and it seemed perfect. It was originally dry as a bone! Front and rear had grease so I just left them alone for now. I used this: amzn.to/3Pc4Dar
I don’t have that model so hard to say for sure. I usually just try to find the measurements on the Amazon or whatever site listing and measure my battery tray.
Bought this off the back of this video, but after a little light use just testing it, the rear drive shaft has rounded. It only fits inside the gear by 1mm! Not sure how to resolve? Any ideas?
Man that’s weird! I’ve had a couple other people say this same thing happened to them. I’ve now had 5 cars on this exact platform, I beat them to pieces, and I’ve never had that driveshaft fail. I would reach out to hbx first. They tend to have decent customer service. I wonder if maybe on some of them they accidentally use the wrong pinion that’s not as long. Have you taken both diffs out? Curious if the diff pinion gears for front and rear are the same ones or if one is shorter.
@@DerbyCityRC Thanks, and yes very strange as I see how hard you've driven yours! In the manual and online T2026 umbrella pinion looks identical front and rear, but will have a look for real. It does look like the rear center drive shaft on T2302 is about 5mm too short. A longer drive shaft or longer pinion would sort it i'm sure. I've reached out to HBX, waiting on a reply. Fingers crossed.
Interesting I haven’t seen a 3s version. Could be Bezgar as they just slap their name and a different body on all the other companies cars lol. Sometimes they through their own motor at it but it’s probably the same one and just say you can use 3s lol
@@DerbyCityRC I think that you are right. And it's smaller than the RC here. I think it's the one that comes with like 3s lipo that looks like a brick?
@aitorgonzalez5663 honestly this car is pretty unbeatable. My suggestion is get this and just upgrade the esc. That’s what I’ll be doing as the motor shouldn’t have an issue on 3s (probably).
Bought today with your link and coupon code! Thank You!🙏 can I ask you the measure in millimeters of the maximum battery size I can fit in?(bangood is notoriously slow in shipping I can search and buy the battery in this time) I have found a INTELLECT PT2 5000MAH 120C 7,6V that seems the best I can get on small size! it's 95.2mm long, 46.5 wide and 25mm high, 7.6V instead of 7.4 ... I don't think this matters right? Thank You Again!!
Thanks I appreciate that! 😊 I’ll double check but if I remember right, 95mm is too long. 7.6v should be fine, but I’ll get you a link that fits if that one doesn’t.
@@DerbyCityRC Thank You! so at this point I think the only solution will be 2 Zeee S2 2200mAh n parallel... they have exactly this size, thank you again for the measures! ❤️
My 6yr old can drive this one very well. He’s been practicing for almost 3 years though. I bet an 11 year old could catch on pretty quick, and this is one of my top favorite cars. Check this one out too, it’s the same basic car but has a few upgrades and is available on Amazon for $50 off right now making it about the same price: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9mef2vZL-eY.htmlsi=nlZ4V27N55Nz9qtL amzn.to/47UW8H3
@mrwoct30 thanks bro! Just today I posted a new video on upgrading this car (it’s the 2997a, but it all works exactly the same). If doing that’s ever in your future.
Hello bro, I don't know if you could do a review of the new MJX 14210, it is a car that I would like to buy but there are few people who have it, there is no review of the car, thanks!
It’s not on the docket just yet, but hopefully soon!!! I’m definitely interested. Though I do have the hbx 2105a coming which is probably the car the 14210 is based off of!
@@DerbyCityRC nooo the 2105a is basically a longer and lower hbx 1/16. The Mjx 1/14 is a completely different chassis with metal base. It has proper 3S electronics too Oranges and apples 😊
Yo Im having issues with stripping spur gears and diffs. I up graded ESC 120 3600 kv motor, when I put 3s battery it takes about a day and diff or spur is stripped. I run mostly on pavement and grass, think thats to much power, and I went to one of tour recommended sites for the metal spur and I guess it wasn’t working right but purchase wouldn’t go thru.
That may be too much power. Lol. Thats a lot and these gears are very good quality. I don’t remember posting about any gear upgrades for the HBXs besides a pinion gear for the motor. The electronics I have in my upgraded 2995 is a 60 amp esc and a 3300kv motor (Hobbywing Max10). It easily hits 45-50 mph on 3s and is plenty for this car lol
@@DerbyCityRC thanks. Yeah thats what I thought, so I use 3S batteries and use the controller to turn it down like 65% and 2s on 100%. Its so fun having that much power on tap,Lol
My favorite would be the new 2997a. I have a video on that from a few weeks ago. It’s this same chassis with a different body, shocks, and tires. Can take 3s.
Just making an FPV offroader, so really maybe the FC610 would be the best choice but I'm not sure of it's got as good of a rear/front diff. as the others. I'm not sure if I'll run out of range of my controller first, or video transmiter ranger first (at 1.3ghz VTX). Do you use stock controllers for all you vehicles? or do you have a programable or expensive controller that works for multiple cars? Thanks for replying, I didn't expect ya to. @@DerbyCityRC
Well donnd very responsible Video my friends! 😝Awesome truck, and tougher the fake nails! This thing rocks😝! I do agree with you Evan on the body style. Wish they would of come up with something different instead copying the 610 . Maybe offer something different and original. Any way , this was a very well done review brother. Hello to the family!👋🏻✌🏻😎😝
@@DerbyCityRC Hello, I was looking at your page but they do not specify spare parts for this model. nor for 1/10 scale. Is it possible that they are the spare parts of the 2995 model?
Yes most of the 2995 parts are the same. You can also send them an email via the contact us button and ask about certain part numbers. That’s always worked for me but it’s been a while since I’ve needed to do that.
Looks to be ok, i would not call that a 1/10, its a 1/12 for sure, even my pro 1/10 race truggy is bigger than that thing, but consider what you pay for it, i think its great value. Nice video, keep them coming. (Just had to add this, they claim 45kmh, and you got 44kmh, so they are not lying to us, for once ) ;-)
Bro you go hard I wonder if you buy these cars full price cause if so you have no chill an just send it I like it though sucks that its not really 1/10
