I'm no psychologist but his mum died, followed by drastic life changes with his aunt. The one consistent thing he had from the time his mum was alive was Arsenal. Arsenal became his life; which is why his entire life revolves around Arsenal. His job and even his missus is nicknamed after an Arsenal player. Sounds like young specs transferred his love and comfort into Arsenal. It's sad that Specs had to go through this but he's a positive impact on the world and has come through the trauma well.
