I kind of understand the chairmans point here, Wilder was moaning a lot and saying how bad his players were. It may be correct, yes. However, this same team got 9th last season, I don't think having a manager who says each week how bad they are helps. Even if he is being honest - if that makes sense

Also he wanted a director of football cause he rightly felt wilder signings were not right but wilder was against that. If he wants to go in a total different direction then wilder shouldn’t of been so petty as most clubs operate with directors of football.

Any manager who gets his owner to spend over £20 million on a player then doesn't play him has given up the right to moan about lack of investment. How many other players did Wilder want bought who he then would then have kept on the bench? It was obvious to everybody last season that Sheffield United didn't score enough goals and their on loan keeper was stopping them shipping loads of goals. As any fan in the Championship (outside of Sheffield) what Sheffield United's biggest problem would be and they would have told you they didn't have a Premier League striker. Wilder did nothing to address the problem and hoped that his defence would do the job again for him this season. Once he got the injuries he was in trouble. One of the jobs of any manager is to defend his players no matter how poor they perform but Wilder turned on them at the first sign of trouble. You don't slag your players off in public and say some of them aren't good enough particularly the year after those same players got you a very credible finish.

@David H Really? Just where are the Blunts now? I don't see a rush of other clubs trying to sign him from any division.

Wilder ran the recruitment his own way and to be fair it got him to where he is/was. However, at this level he's been found wanting and his signings have been abject, the recruitment approach has made United look like the Dog and Duck compared to their counterparts. Instead of being willing to change he's been stubborn which has made him look pretty small minded. The Prince has taken loads of deserved stick but his point here was that he didn't advocate for a Director of Football, but he wanted Wilder to give him a wider range of targets to work with. It seems pretty reasonable to me. Also, the owner is spot on when he says he'd be worried if Wilder wanted out after spending more money 'his way' in the future. How Wilder has behaved has done himself no favours, as if his managerial talents take him further up the footballing pyramid he will have to be more open to a different style of recruitment. If he went into another Prem club demanding his draconian backwards style of transfer handling he'd be laughed all the way back to Sheffield. Also, Alan Biggs has made a career out of vanilla articles and being over pally with football managers in Sheffield, you'd get more probing questions from Lorraine Kelly.
@matthewmatthew9485

Half way through the season some blades fans were wanting Wilder out on phone ins and when he finally was sacked was moaning disgrace. Wilder seemed stubborn and unwilling to change the style of play because clubs figured them out. He also wasted millions on strikers that he didn't even play. He was very negative in interviews and seemed unable to motivate. He couldn't say he wasn't backed mousset, mcburnie and brewster who he didn't even play 17 million on each. Everybody knows you need goals in the premiership. Would have been smarter move to get experienced players at end of career on loan then to put all your eggs in one basket on unproven players and championship level. I think he tried throwing one of the players under the bus when he didn't sign a contract. As a supporter of a different club just a observation from the outside. I liked Wilder last season was a breath of fresh air but this season he came across totally different defeatist and bigger ego. I wouldn't blame the owners for not giving him more money in recent windows because his judgement is obviously off.

The prince was right about having other options while going for a player. The ‘big’ clubs have as many as 8 options to a single player the deal doesn’t work out, but those usually have huge scouting networks. The ones that do agent-based business or can’t afford such scouting networks have about 4 on each target. No wonder Brighton play such beautiful football and are definitely headed for big big things.

Chris Wilder knew before christmas that he wasn't going to be in charge next season. And so did the players. Add to that second season syndrome.

Don’t agree with Simon, the chairman clearly contradicts himself by saying he left wilder to organise the transfers and wasn’t going to force a director of football, yet mention other transfers we missed out on.. clearly owner believes his money and he should have bigger say in transfers and from wilder point of view it’s his money.. he made the club over 200 mil on a shoestring budget with his players. The prince only owns the club from the money wilder made him...
@SunOfTheSun
@SunOfTheSun 3 года назад
Nonsense. Successful clubs are ran with DoF and scouts picking players and not managers. Wilder was stuck in the old way of doing things and that made them unsuccessful this season. Last season was the perfect season to kick on and that’s what the owner wanted to do
@0wls2k
@0wls2k 3 года назад
Wilder gave the Prince few options for players, and then when they couldn't land them said he didn't get what he wanted. What the Prince asked is that he had a wider scope of options for targets, that way you can negotiate much better and land one of them, completely reasonable. Wilder is a toddler.

@@SunOfTheSun totally agree instead wilder carried on signing championship players hence why bottom of the league. Small club mentality from top to bottom to be honest it’s fact that they’ve missed out on some players due to not paying higher wages blades need to wake up as a club and realises there not in league 1 anymore paying players 20k a week will only take you so far sorry but to move on and get better calibre of players wages do make a difference.

this is hilarious hearing Simon Jordan climbing onto his high horse to get his two pence worth in over Chris Wilder and this is coming from a man who hired that well known shrinking violet Neil Warnock to manage Crystal Palace who left the position after the two fell out (SJ has form with former Crystal Palace managers falling out with him)when the club entered administration and who was the chairman and owner of the club,Simon Jordan.This is what SJ said beginning of the new season "Chris Wilder is the perfect manager and we'll see if second season syndrome comes in. I don't think it will. He's a breath of fresh air. I love his attitude. But they've got a challenge because of the expectations, very rarely do you ever satisfy the expectations of media and fans. Once you don't, you're in a different dynamic that people become disappointed and disillusioned". SJ's opinions etc are what a greasy chip butty is to haute cuisine.I'm sure there's a lot of validity to what the Prince has said but what we don't know is Chris Wilder's side to the whole affair.After we hear from him then Mr Jordan have your say
