Also you can see the contemplation that Clara goes into before deciding to say that to shut the Doctor up (a very regrettable choice). I've always felt like Clara and Danny's love was very forced. And then they started to not know what was lies and what was truth, so she started believing in her own lies. Which was that the Doctor was her best friend and she loves Danny Pink. But no, because Clara loves the Doctor.

Nicole Song But that's the whole point of it, really. It was always *supposed* to be/feel forced. Clara is nearing 30 and as such probably under that typical pressure to settle down and act reasonably (we already see in "Time of the Doctor" how she brings along a pretend boyfriend to satisfy her nagging relatives..)... and unlike say, Amy or Rose, she's the type of person for whom it's not easy to follow her heart, she has her "perfectionist/control freak tendencies and we have seen lots of times how her stoicism can be a streght, but Danny is kind of there to show how it can also be a weakness & make Clara look at her life from a different perspective. I mean the whole relationship would have blown up at the first Date if Clara hadn't felt sorry for him after hearing that he was an orphan. It's possible for two people to be just incompatible even though Danny is not a bad person. But they just have very different priorities in life, he wants peace & quiet after his experiences in the war and she's someone with adrenaline junkiee tendencies. Her true feelings for the Doctor should be obvious since "Last Christmas" - She basically said she considers him husband material. Very great performance from all three actors, certainly.

Kendrix Havlik 100 % agree. Also, it's not easy to fall in love with an irrascible old man who won't settle down when you're 30 and want to have kids. And Clara's said she wanted kids before. So it's not easy for her to let herself fall in love with the Doctor... Which I think makes it all even more beauriful :)

@@JohnSmith-mi9qi I don't know if he loved her, but you can tell throughout Capaldi's run that he goes from expecting that flirty romantic atmosphere that he has had with his companions as 10 and 11, to realizing its not there due to his older appearance, to accepting it and realizing that he really is too old for these young companions anyway, being a 1000+ yearn old alien.

@@nickmishigan187 having been around elderly people in 70s and 80s and 90s, let me inform you they still see themselves as their younger self. My late gramma said “who is that old lady in the mirror?” She was 90. She told me she saw herself as 17, so it would make her upset she no longer was like other girls who are 17. The old men I worked with asked how to get younger people in bars to want them, and I sadly told them truthfully they will not. Their faces are sad. Aging is due to body breakdown over time, but you are not inside seeing yourself as older than others. When you get there, you will empathize more with this doctor character. In fact when he said they both looked the same age, that pretty much summed it up for me.

PandaLord13, I have to disagree with you on this. In the first full episode with Peter (the dinosaur in the Thames, and the Paternoster Gang), Clara yells at Vastra that she is the least likely person to have her head turned by a 'pretty face', and how she had a crush on Marcus Aurelius. Her problem was trying to see "her" doctor - who was young(ish) and funny and her best friend and the man she had a crush on in the grumpy old Scot who seemed to be a stranger. The phone call at the end from Matt Smith's doctor to Clara was a great touch, as it helped to the recognize "her" doctor inside of his new 'casing'. The Doctor does love Clara, and I think he is in love with her, but he knows that it can never happen. I think in later episodes, when she falls for Danny, it is because she sees that she can't have a romantic future with the Doctor, since he is immortal, and she's 'just a girl'. She always loves him, but she sees that it is something that can't happen. Then when Danny dies, that is when she becomes reckless, taking risks and 'acting' like the Doctor (reckless, and taking risks!). Then, in Face the Raven, it comes full circle - when she is giving her farewell speech, and hugs him at the end, he starts to say something, and she tells him not to, that she already knows everything that he wants to say, and "we've always had bad timing"

He changed personalities too, not just faces

The Doctor always has his memories from the moment he was little. The only exception was during the 8th Doctor's early run, War Doctor saving Gallifrey/being good prior to the Day of the Doctor, and etc.

And the incredulous look he gave Clara when she said "because ... He's an alien." Just an alien?? The Doctor is so hurt because she said that. All of those lines.

Sixth Jayhawk Look no further than his very obviously flattered reaction when he thought Clara was dating a lookalike of his previous incarnation, or "beat that for a date!" Although it's also a bit more complex than just that - from the Doctor's PoV he hasn't seen Clara in a long time (since he was stuck on Trenzalore) and now that he's back and wants to continue his adventuring with her, they can't connect as effortlessly he'd liked to and the regeneration didn't make it easier... and then this happens. He thought Clara was on his side with this, in s7 they both went "geez the military!" in unison (See "Cold War"), and then he kind of perceives this as her being embarassed of her nerdy best friend and her own nerdy side because she scored with one of the jocks or something like that, and going for this person with traditionally good looks & social skills. Of course Danny doesn't really have a "brainless jock" personality but that was his first impression. Clara on the other hand is trying to keep things compartamentalized, and paint herself as normal in front of Danny (That's also why she says "He's an alien", instead of "He's my weirdo friend that I, also a weirdo, like to do weirdo things together, we are so weird that we had to look to the opposite side of the milky way to find a similarly weird person" ) These three episodes in mid s8 are ind of about Clara coming to terms with the "weirdness" in herself and that she's a thrillseeker who hangs out with other thrill-seekers.

So the Whoniverse sang to our (then former) Doctor that it was ok for him to rest now from his burden. AND Then began to sing to the replacement to have her wake up and accept the cloak of life (the role of being the Doctor) for the new Whoniverse that was born on June 26th 2010... Its have been hidden in plain sight this entire time. Clara became the new Doctor and Ashildur is her (still to come) granddaughter = Rassilon (female) used to be the original wife of our Doctor in the classic Whoniverse that ended (had its Doomsday) on June 26th 2010 (in episode Doomsday (hidden) and Big Bang (visable)). Anyways...Clara plays the biggest part here trying to hide her 2 lives to the most important men in her life, she succeeds for the first part but we all knew that it couldn't last long, i really hope this problem will come back in series 9(maybe as a way to re-entroduce Susan to the show)as i feel that Danny could either become an enemy of the Doctor or a new companion

Dennis Fang I can ALMOST guarantee it. Remember Orson Pink, the descendant of Danny Pink who they met at the end of time in "Listen"? Knowing Moffatt, this was a clue that the Doctor WILL find a way to bring Danny back. This whole next series will likely build up to The Doctor finding a way to re-power the Galifreyan hard drive in St. Paul's so he can bring Danny out. After all a Hard Drive doesn't stop storing just because you turn the power off......

Yes finally someone likened Danny to Ian! Or hell, even Harry! Just because Danny is Black doesn't mean he is like Mickey. They're very different lol. Same with Martha and Bill. I find Bill to be a simpleton but she is a CURIOUS and open-minded simpleton. Whereas Martha is like a high achieving, scientifically intelligent woman. Two very different characters. People can't get through Danny's Blackness...... Tbh though I never liked Mickey. And I hated him even more when the show made him a soldier (but then again, they were trying to make a point about the Doctor being an influence on Mickey being a soldier).... With Danny, he is like the "regret" side of being a soldier, and so much the opposite of Mickey's "growth".

Andrew Mcilveen He's not the 14th regeneration, he's the 13th one. If you count the number of regenerations, that's how many times the Doctor has regenerated, not how many lives he had. Proof? In "The Five Doctors" the 1st Doctor asks 5th the number of his regenerations. He replied "4" to which 1st said "Ah, so there are 5 of me!" Also, it has been stated many time that Time Lords have 12 regenerations meaning 13 lives. Just wanted to point this things out..... But you're right. Peter is 12th. His number in the show doesn't really matter, in real life he's the 12th to play the role (as a normal Doctor) so he's the 12th Doctor.Which is confirmed in "The Time Of The Doctor" "11th's our is over now the clock is striking 12th's".

Andrew Mcilveen Yeah, it's complicated. But he's not the 14th incarnation, he's the 14th live (he's the 13th incarnation). It's very complicated cause now regeneration,incarnation and life are each their own thing. He's the 13th because 10th regenerated twice but he was the same incarnation (but different regeneration and life). I hope I'm not giving you headaches, because I am giving myself some. So yeah, 12th Doctor,13 incarnation,14th life.......Moffat made it WAY to complicated.

Clara got rewritten between Smith and Capaldi, into a totally different and pretty unpleasant person. Its not just her attitude to the doctor that changed, her whole personality became suddenly angry and pompous and snarly whenever she was crossed. She forgot all about the kids she looked after and never mentioned them again, and suddenly she had a career as a teacher out of nowhere. i dont know what moffat thought he was doing with her, but it made the show almowst unwatchable for me.

Accidental238 Except he Wilfred never actually fought/killed (and Ten complimented him for that), and with both Jack & the Brigardier, he initially distrusted them alot and only became friends after he got to know them better. Especially with the Brigardier he had *many* disagreements early on. (Just remember the Silurian episodes....) The Doctor *never* liked the military. Also, sometimes people just don't get along. Just because he's the protagonst, it doesn't mean that he has to get along with everyone. Danny is straightlaced & serious, the Doctor cracks jokes in in the face of death. The Doctor is a bit of a thrillseeker & an adventurer, Danny likes peace and quiet. Danny wants to protect Clara while the Doctor makes use of/ trusts in her skills even if it means putting her in danger. They both fought, but while Danny fought as part of an unit and ended up with a complex/ major beef against his superiors, the Doctor values his independencalways did his own thing & never followed orders from the Time Lord government (granted, they were nuts) - He's also tried very hard to erase & forget his involvement with the time war, while Danny made having been a soldier a big part of his identity. He hardly has any character traits NOT related to it, appart from having been an orphan. They're very different people who just don't get along, or think very much of each other's lifestyles.

Scsigs But Rory and the Eleventh Doctor are great together, they are good friends.

Yet throughout series 5, Rory is basically Mickey Smith in that they're dating the main female of the show & aren't even that integral to the show. He gets better as it goes, but the showrunners really have something about the male companions.

Scsigs Rory fought for his wife, and won, married her and it is the Centurion. Mickey was a loser, and married the remains "Martha Jones."It is an insult to compare him.

To each their own, but I am still going to laugh. LOL!

Episodes with Clara and Danny turns the episode into fifty shades of Clara, and besides the two had no chemistry
