Having a DEVIL of a time getting out all 8-tiny screws (both sides, 4-screws apiece). Rust + tight spot! Tried loosening grill, what a mess-- didn't want to break the tabs. Your solution is genius. (I'm removing both headlamps because I'm converting the halogens to LED. Came in here to see how to remove the #$&* headlights!)

I was offered a 60$ job! Then I looked it up and found you. Took may be 10 minutes to put new headlight in my 1992 Toyota truck! Wow so relieved. Thank you bunches.

just inherited a 1990 Toyota pickup from my wife's grandfather who passed away about 25 years ago and it's been sitting in a garage so we've been slowly working on it had everything working except the headlights were just so dim I needed them upgraded and replaced and did not want to take off the grill and everything like the manual said. So glad I found your video it's worked great. Only thing I did was add a little bulb grease to it and replaced the socket at the same time and other than that fantastic! Thanks!
This worked great when I was putting in my new led headlights on my 91 Toyota. Me and my grandpa tried getting the grill off but couldn’t get the bottom clips out and I found this video and it helped a lot!!

The Shade Tree Fix-it Man I did it!!! I bought two headlights online, arrived two days ago, this morning I replaced both lights, had a little trouble adjusting both lights to point at the same level, but all and all only took me less than 1 hour. Thank you soooo much! If is not because of this video, I would have missed out on a great experience. Yey, girl power😊

Good job, George. I can't use that trick on the Mercedes. Sealed beams are not allowed in Germany and Mercedes builds their headlights under the premise that they never burn out...but they do. The dealership told me it was impossible for me to change the bulb myself ("You have to have the car on a lift and take out the gizmocranky from the bottom, etc.") and then charged me $50 to do it. The next time I bought a bulb, got out some lights and mirrors so I could see what needed to be done and after about 20 minutes and bloody fingers I had successfully changed one. In the meantime I can do it in 10 minutes and not bleed in the process, but it is really difficult. I wonder what the designers think of when they do things to us like that. Thanks for sharing the shortcut, nonetheless.
Engineers are more about making things go together quickly on the assembly line, not about doing the repairs after the fact. This old truck is much simpler than many other newer vehicles, for which I am thankful. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
This is a good way of doing this. Use a skinny #1 screwdriver and Liquid wrench to loosen up the threads . My passenger side was a little harder but totally legit. Thanks.
Yup you are right on. I was out in the garage today working on a snowblower, and it is around zero with snow falling. No heat in the garage at the moment either. I got it running but not finished with the fix. Thanks for stopping by.
I tried to install one of those headlights and it was pain to remove bottom clips. It was getting dark and cold. Therefore I stopped the installation. Now I will try this method and see if it works
Oh yeah. V6 and a glass pac muffler, 5 speed, a/c, power steering, brakes, etc tinted windows. Crank up windows however, which is fine by me on a work truck. Hope to do some body work on it come Spring.
These are sealed beam lights, not like the newer vehicles with just a bulb inside the reflector. You have to replace the whole headlight, just as you saw me do it. Thanks for stopping by and hope this was helpful.
Easily done! Cold weather can affect headlight assemblies so better check them from time to time. What kind of headlight did you get and how's it so far?
I used a halogen bulb. This was my favorite truck of recent years. I owned it for over 9 years, but sadly I had to sell it. It was getting difficult for my wife (& I) to climb up into it. That was about 5 years and 2 trucks ago now... Thanks for stopping by

DIEZEL BOY Not if you don't have to. The idea is to do as little as possible and still accomplish your goal. If that splash pan is crumpled all ready, perhaps a little straightening with a hammer would help to gain access to the headlight. Hope this was helpful. Thanks for stopping by.
However you prefer the look. I had mine off for a while because it got mangled, but straightened it out some and put it back on. Sadly my Toyota is gone now. It was getting too high for my wife and I to climb into, being a 4x4. I had this pickup longer than any other vehicle I have owned.
HAD a 1989 Toyota pickup. I miss it, but had to sell it as both my wife and I were having trouble "climbing" into it anymore. It was still relatively low mileage at 175K for a Toyota when I sold it. It was my favorite pickup of all the ones I have owned. Thanks for stopping by.
The Shade Tree Fix-it Man I ended up having to take the grill off. Broke or lost most of the clamps. Tomorrow, I have to see if my body shop guy has them. Otherwise, I may try to put silicone in the holes to hold the grill in place. It is also held in place by the turn signal panels, and I didn't lose any of those screws. The chrome on the old lights was largely corroded out, so I didn't get much night visibility, even though the lights were working.
Steve Funk Sorry it didn't work out for you. Unfortunately, my faithful old truck is gone now and replaced with a 93 Chevy S10. The Toyota was getting to be too high for my wife and I to climb into, especially my wife who is only 5' tall.
