Your outlook on diets is so helpful! Its really helped me in my relationship with food. I'm very black or white good or bad and yo yo diet and am very obese. I actually haven't started losing weight again yet but I can tell my relationship with food is just better. Healthier happier. And my choices are slowly changing.

Dani, this is a great video. Lately I have been battling with information overload and not knowing which way to go. Low carb, hi carb, intermittent fasting, keto, vegan, whole 30, nutritarian, wfpb etc etc. Thank you for calming me down. I will always remember your words "the system will never be smarter than your body" ❤️

Thank you for sharing your wisdom on how to approach and see your food as something that nourishes you, as opposed to having an internal conflict with the food. Remembering to slow down and show internal gratitude for the food you are about to eat. I really needed to hear this.

You said some really important things here. I especially like that you talk about our relationship to food and listening to our bodies, as well as doing things that are sustainable. I do not believe in most dieting approaches as they typically are extreme in some way. My mantra is: Do more of what works and less of what doesn’t work. I also appreciate that you encourage people to be kind and gentle with themselves-so important! Thanks for sharing your thoughts about these important questions!

Thank you for not jumping on the Keto “is the cure for everything” diet. My daughter is a nutritionist and we just had this conversation about disordered eating. What used to be anorexia or bulemia eating disorder is now paleo, keto, vegan, gluten free, or count my carbs app, dieting disorder. It's all restrictive eating that eliminates certain food groups and has an overemphasis on foods that you can or cannot eat. It is a very unhealthy way to approach food. Unless you have a genuine medical issue like diabetes or celiac disease, all these diets are nothing but the latest fad making money for promoters of their accompanying products, cook books, and supplements and are not sustainable long term. I like your healthy approach, eat a variety of whole unprocessed foods and enjoy your life. Good job with this video Dani!

Dani! What a clear and powerful word on IF. Dr. Valter Longo says studies show that fasting 15-16 hours or more of fasting everyday will shorten your life. He suggests that as YOU do, a 3x a day eating is good, learning to choose the right food as YOU teach us! BRAVO!

Thank you so much for the great advice! I am especially grateful to your mindful comments about the different types of diets. Not completely shunning any of them, but reasonable understanding for each of them. (I especially get annoyed at people glorifying or bashing Keto and your comment about it was the most reasonable that I've seen around) I do IF in my own style (after reading and learning a lot about it from Dr. Jason Fung) and I find it very easy to incorporate into my daily life. Having the space to eat the foods that you enjoy occasionally and concentrating on whole foods while not snacking all the time but still taking part in social life normally is a key (at least for me). Thanks again for the insightful video and May God bless you and guide you to the best ❤️

I don't do Keto: Way too restrictive. I cannot keep carbs that low. I do CICO/Flexible dieting. I do IF: I've never been a breakfast person. If I get enough sleep, I don't get hungry until later in the afternoon anyway. I also like having all my calories in one big meal post workout. I also take Yohimbine HCL which requires you to be in a fasted state in order for it to work.

Hi Dani, I too am half italian and half German. I also grew up in a house hold with lots of family pasta recipes and homemade oven baked bread everything homemade from scratch. As I've gotten older my diet caught up with me. I've tried every diet under the sun, every time I try to eat whole foods. I do well for a bit and then I get to a point where I really crave a bowl of family recipe pasta or lasanage or crusty homemade bread with chilli and anchovies. Then I end up giving into thei craving and it is all down hill from there. Its like a roller coaster of carbs. Im just really struggling to cut those things out of my life. Sugar is not so hard for me to cut its the delicious family recipes that I find it hard to give up. They also bring me so much joy as I used to cook these things with my nonna in the kitchen growing up, some special memories. so its also an emotional happiness for me lol. How on earth do I over come this food obstacle in my diet.

This was a such a great, fun and informative video! I have been overweight/obese and 25 years ago (I am now 55 years old), I felt I had no choice but to have a weight loss surgery. Food choices and portion sizes are facts of Life that many of us grew up with and are still learning how to change them. I, as a toddler was put into foster care, - and although I was by the same family that later adopted me, I also had emotional issues that were not dealt with and food was a solace and often a way for my adoptive parents to get me to listen to them on simple things. So food was not only for nutrition, but a type of bribery, panacea, treat etc. I know that the way others were brought up with food is also a similar situation. Thankfully, over the years, I have learned to like more groups of foods aside from junk food. I now enjoy many veggies; I crave the light green zucchini and when their price is good, I buy them in large amounts - like now they are readily available. Strangely, I like most of my veggies cooked simple -by themselves - not in a sauce. Admittedly, I use my microwave a lot. I do not cook/bake that much. It is easier nowadays for me to say this as it is common for so many people to use their microwave. However - for me - over the years, and living alone since I got divorced many years ago - and my daughter lives in another city, married with two daughters - it is just more convenient to me to eat in a different way than I used to. I also am living a life with health issues - fibromyalgia is one of the most difficult diseases in that is invisible to the outside world. For me, although I now like healthier foods, it is harder for me to cut/chop my produce. I am blessed in that I have a few close friends we go have large families and their small amount of leftovers from their meals, are great food for me. They save the food in baggies or containers on their freezer and give me every few weeks. So, I may not be eating as healthy as your vlogs - but I love u and your family! I really love Q&A videos. Blessings, love, and prayers from Israel.

Words of wisdom, all of it! Restrictive diets are not the key to sustainable weight loss, and unless you've got an illness that requires them, you should avoid them at all cost. Trying to avoid (or at least reduce) refined sugar, eating whole foods, quality ingredients, simple but nourrishing meals, not all the time but most of the time, and not obsessing over food are what has worked for me for the last 30 years. I can still socialize and enjoy myself, I just feel less hungry after 2 glasses of wine and olives or a beer and peanuts, and I suppose I adjust the amount of food I eat next. I don't really think about it. Studies have shown that diets make you lose the notion of quantity, you can eat huge amounts without feeling satiated. Our hectic life styles make us eat in a rush foods that have been over-processed while doing something else and not paying attention to our hunger, and that really isn't good. Besides, health should be our focus, not weight. And no one should feel guilty about being overweight, most processed foods contain sugar that just makes you yearn for more. Taking the time to cook their own meals as often as possible and eating them slowly while really tasting them are certainly the best things anyone can do to lose weight over time. Dani gives very good advice, I think she should do these videos more often!

Keto / LC was extremely helpfull for me. This eating stye in combination with fasting eliminated all of my health issues, but for me it was never intended to be a livestyle. And I did loose weight, but honestly even I'm overweight, that was never my main goal with this - that was a bonus on top. I stopped dieting to loose weight a long time ago, because I was sick of it and it neve worked for long. And thanks to dieting I've gone from 75kg (about 150pounds) to 120kg (240pounds) - thanks a lot Weight Watchers and Co! Now I want to learn intuitiv eating, I want to make peace with my body and gain peace of mind. With that approach in mind I realized how often there is a voice in my had "don't do that, that's bad" "do you think that's a good Idea" and so on and on....

Well-educated answers, lady. :-) Making me even more of a fan of this channel! I always say that total restriction of entire food groups or even multiple food groups is not sustainable nor helpful, either to long term weight loss or nutrition/health, for most people who don't have serious conditions which require extreme restrictions. Science is on the side of "everything in moderation." For instance, there are so many wonderful grains out there that offer amazing health and nutrition benefits to our bodies and help with a myriad of issues from fatigue to depression to even weight loss! It's when we fail to moderate our intake of certain foods (like breads, pastries, and pastas), and especially when we fail to get adequate exercise, that we can run into certain issues with our bodies and our health. I say we stop torturing ourselves and just... Moderate, and exercise. Walk 20 minutes a day if that's all you can do. I also believe we would all be better off if we cut way down on red meat (and processed meats)... As science has also shown that although there are some benefits to be had from it, the negatives can outweigh the positives. My husband's family has a high incidence of prostate cancer in the men, we can clean eat all day but if I'm feeding him local, farm-raised, grass-fed, "hormone-free", "GMO-free" steak 3 nights out of the week, I am still doing him a grave disservice there. We now do red meat only once per week if even then, and we're going meatless 3 nights per week. Compromise with your spouse is also important, for the marital bliss. :-) P.S. I loved your chia pudding and chia oatmeal recipes.

I have been on keto for 2 years and find it very sustainable...not only did it eliminate cravings I feel energized and younger if that’s possible!!!...I even handle stress better and I never feel deprived...so I will say that this way of eating is more of a lifestyle now rather than a diet... have you tried it?

I have tried it and it's not for me BUT it sounds like it's really working for you! That's the beauty of food and dietary approaches... different things work for different people.

I have been doing IF or TRE ( time restricted eating ) for about 18 months and have gradually reversed my Type 2 diabetes. I have a 6 hour eating window and am careful about carbs. Occasionally I throw in a couple of 800 calorie days a week, following Dr Michael Mosley’s blood sugar diet. My GP considers me to not even be pre-diabetic now and is very supportive of my eating regime. I find it really easy to sustain.

This was a fun video and i agree with you for the most part. I am not overweight so i have not tried the KETO diet but my sister did and as you noted it was hard for her to stick to. I guess the perfect diet for a human would be a small portion of fatty meat and green leafy vegetables of some sort twice a day every day. Don't see that in my future. I have been trying a version of food combining where I eat a keto breakfast, a carbohydrate lunch and then either a traditional dinner or sometimes a keto dinner. When I say a carbohydrate lunch i mean just that, very low fat, and very low protein. My theory is that if I eat carbs they will create an insulin response but since i am not consuming fat at the same time there logically should be no fat for the insulin to store. I would think that our ancestors ate carbs and fats but generally not at the same time. When I say carbs of course I am talking about the so called good carbs, no processed junk or bread. The most important thing about good nutrition is like everything else in life, you must have a plan; if you don't have a plan, you are planning to fail. Keep up the good work!

Fantastic answer to the intermittent fasting question! I know so many swear by it, but I found having to wait until noon to eat made me nauseous. As someone who enjoys breakfast and tries to avoid large meals that it went against my beliefs on balanced eating. Running on a empty tank just doesn't work for me.

If you can't control your food, you can control your portions. Just eat more of the vegetable sides or eat a little bit of the food so you're not being rude and then eat healthy food you've made for yourself or some veggies.

I’m a personal cook and when I don’t meal prep for us on the weekends, my week is terrible. After cooking for 6-7 hours for my clients I don’t feel like spending long hours in my kitchen during the week.

So agree with you on the Keto diet! Isn’t moderation always the key as they say! FYI I was raised like you Italian and lots of pasta. I do love my pasta but trying other versions... lentil Love the q&a and more quick meals. I hope you show more crockpot ideas. Thanks you👍😘

I did intermittent fasting last summer without realizing it. Just ate my usual vegetarian meals but within 10 hr period. Lost 25 lbs effortlessly! This summer I am so busy at work, coming home hours late and struggling with intuitive eating as a result, forget fasting. Not gaining but still frustrated. I resent my job and wish I could go back to Europe where people put life first and employers respect that.

Thank you so much for the information in this video. Your channel, as well as a few other RU-vid channels, have been such a game changer for me. I make a few of your recipes every week - whether it's for meal prep or for dinner, so I want you to know how grateful I am for this content. Two things I've always heard differing opinions on - food combining and cooking oils. For food combining, what types of foods are best combined and what foods are hard to digest when they are eaten together? I guess that comes down to listening to your body and its needs, but I'm curious as to what your thoughts are. Also, I've heard some theories that all cooking oils are bad, other theories that some are good, but others are bad, so that is something I'd like clarification on as well.
