This song is, has been so special to me. My wife went to the doctor one day and was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. Three days later she passed. On the way home this song came on the radio in my car I just remember pulling over to the side of the road and listening to Anne Wilson's voice and the feeling and the power behind this song I remember crying my eyes out. It touched me like nothing else. From time to time I listen to it and I don't know why but it wraps me in warmth. I grew up in Seattle and have been a fan of Heart from day one . My wife dedicated " Crazy On You" to me in Junior High but Mistral Wind Stays with me and always will . Today I was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer for the second time I think I'll beat the hell out of it. But it made me think of this song Thank you Heart ❤
This proves why Ann Wilson deserves to be recognized as one of rocks most phenomenal singers of all time. Think about it. Their longevity speaks volumes as a testament of their incredible talent. Music from the ❤...
Most people only know Heart for the ballads in the 1980's,so imagine the shock when they here this and omg don't they ROCK the Wilson sisters can't put a foot wrong with this powerhouse PERFORMANCE, Ann's vocals are as stunning as Nancy's drop dead gorgeous looks.
yep just like Chicago they know the eighties syrupy ballads given to them by David Foster.. and are blown away by the 1969 through 1975 Terry Kath heavy years..and especially the first album Chicago Transit authority never knowing that they could Rock like that.. it's the same with heart I know
Always has been and will be their most powerful song. Just stunning in its raw emotion and power - a truly glorious rock song in the style of Led Zeppelin.
So true but why didn’t the drummer follow the original drum parts from Michael using his Gong like the live versions. I do agree this is really a bad-ass version of this.
The studio musicians did an awesome job. They were totally focused on their sheet music at all times. But at 4:50 Ann begins her build up of an unbelievable "Mistral". Pay attention to the first violinist at 5:04 as she breaks her attention to look up at Ann, giving the slightest smile. I think what she just heard might have blown her away a little bit. Ann's voice can do that to people.👏👏👏
Each Heart album holds great musical sustenance. Each on its own is a masterpiece that the artists instill their very soul. My favorite album of all "Dog and Butterfly" will remain a breath of fresh air every time it hits my ear.
When I was in 6th grade, our music teacher was so obsessed with this album, she had sheet music and the lyrics copied for us, made us learn and sing most of the songs on this album.
I saw Heart in 1976 open for the fucking Beach Boys in support of “Dreamboat Annie”. I was 13 years old, and it was the first concert I had ever been to, and I had no concept of an opening band. I was a tad confused, since they were NOT The Beach Boys, but they absolutely blew me away. I bought “Dreamboat Annie” the next day, and I’ve been a huge fan ever since.
Heart fans know that intro. These songs are what made Heart the most unique rock band on the planet. No one sounded like them. They took their lead from Zeppelin, but they didn't try to sound like Zeppelin. Influenced, but not copying.
I Love This So Much!!! My favorite heart song. I got to see them in concert recently, and DAMN, they were so awesome. And, they knocked this out the ball park !!!
Sooo goid! I still have the guitar books and albums. Looove playing this song. Love playing along to their first few albums.. 4 decades later. God I need to hook up with another singer/guitarist who loves them as much as I do. Better late than never!
Saw this live in Hearts early days in L.A. The song started just as the sun was going down and an evening breeze was coming through. The Universe game together for those brilliant few minutes!
One of my favorite album closing tracks, ever. I remember like it was yesterday, 35+ years ago, hearing this song for the first time and just thinking, wow, what a voice.
robert owen first time I'm gonna use this expresión "YOU NAIL IT" Man !!! all over. I've to totally agreed, t's simply truth, though I had a laugh first, 'cause it rhymes that to me sounds cool and funny too..
I agree this is okay but the original version is by far the best. Also I think the temple is slower than the original. Also I had the great opportunity of seeing them i at SPAC in Saratoga Springs, New York. They played the song and again the temple was slower than I expected. It's still probably one of my most favorite songs and captures the essence of Heart ❤️
When they played Mistral Wind at Alpine Valley on the Dog and Butterfly tour in the late 70s, she exhaled hard after that high note when she sang"Mistralllll" and a long stream of mist came out of her mouth! True story.
The Dog and Butterfly album was the last one made with the original members, and while their previous work was wonderful, this album demonstrated how powerful and talented they are. The first "side", labeled "Dog", was more electric and rock, while the second side "Butterfly", my favorite, was much softer and acoustic. I love love love "Nada One". Playing that side of that album, to this day, never ceases to tranquilize me. I'll usually find myself succumbing to the sound and end up laying prone to fully absorb the experience...and by the time "Mistral Wind" slowly fades and ends, I'll be asleep.
If you watch three different live performances of this song, it's really like watching three different songs. Each year's version had its own life to it.
Hey Heart fans--would you hardcore fans say that this song is Heart's most popular non-single song (album cut). It's my favorite and it seems a lot of people feel the same way.
"Mistral Wind" No wind when I took the watch My ship was still and waitin' I lay on that mirrored sky A restless sail or waitin' I closed my eyes said the Words of will for the gentle Breathin' that moves the seas Make my sails fill Whisper waves cloud the glass Awake at last like a lover It rushed around the talkin' sweet Roll over, roll over, roll over And in my ear he blew his name It sound so strange but I heard it plain Mistral Mistral wind I have always held the wheel but I let the wind steal my power Spin me 'round lose my course Nights run be like hours Well, it would show me the way To the deepest mountains Too high and beautiful to be Mistral, mistral wind All the hours on the watch I wait for that breeze to move me And blow me back to that place Magic space all through me And I sigh your name Across the empty water You made a crazy dreamer out of me Mistral, mistral, mistral, mistral, Mistral, mistral
All the hours on the watch I wait for that breeze to move me And blow me back to that place Magic space all through me And I sigh your name Across the empty water You made a crazy dreamer out of me
This is Lady Raynes. All of my favorite songs are from the very beginning of their career. I had the fortunate opportunity to see them live, at " Rock Superbowl 10." In Orlando Florida. They were on stage for 2 hours.
The mistral is a strong, cold, and dry wind that blows from the north or northwest in southern France and into the Gulf of Lion in the Mediterranean Sea
Okay Heart fans, let's call it what it is...Zeppelin-esque for sure, but in reality, the birth of what would one day become Grunge out of Seattle...Chris Cornell couldn't say enough about how he was influenced by this song and it is no wonder that the Black Hole Sun recording has a tribute feel to it....That is, Stone Temple Pilot's at their Seattle grunge finest. So, Heart, in my opinion, although truly a Zeppelin off shoot, have actually withstood the test of time and are in their own-rights a style all of their own. They can be measured against just like Zeppelin, only they are HEART, a true and individual powerhouse all by themselves.
@@Don-Jack As a guitarist who grew up with this music and then survived the desert of the 80's and made it to Grunge, I can totally see the path...As a city, Seattle had borne to us the great Jimi Hendrix and that laid the foundation for others to follow, like Heart and then the whole Nirvana slew of local acts from there...Black Hole Sun was forged from the crucible that Heart set on fire with those first three albums...
I've listened to half-dozen live versions of "Mistral Wind" on You Tube. This is my favorite! I'd like to know more about the performance and if more songs from it are available.
This was from a concert in 2007 celebrating the 30th anniversary of their debut album "Dreamboat Annie" (which was actually released in 1975/1976). They played the whole album live, and some additional songs from their catalogue (like Mistral Wind) and a couple of covers at the end. There are more videos on youtube but not the whole show. I'll try to post the whole concert someday.
To me ! it's not only rock and roll... it's Ann and HEART without a doubt one of those on first level, none on top just different.. there are quite a few that play what I like to call "ART ROCK"
BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT.YES IT GETS MY APPROVAL ...NO DOUBT ITS OBVIOUS,My god can't Anne Wilson sing and sister Nancy not just a stunner but a highly competent guitarist but it's Anne who steals the limelight.... awesome vocalist and what an incredible prowess live on stage in concert,I bet she was terrified the first time she used her trademark vocals in public... thinking is this really me !!!!!,rumour says when she let rip on stage showcasing her vocal chords the band members looked overwhelmed and terrified that this ominous lady so sweet could PRODUCE AN ASTONISHING VOCAL POWERHOUSE PERFORMANCE IT SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF EVERYONE IN HER MIDST!!!!!!
I'd love to see someone attempt this song on American Idol. People wouldn't know what hit them. One of the best songs ever written. Life is ALL ABOUT the magic space.
It's slowed down a bit from the 2002 "Live in Seattle" version, which used to be my favorite, but this version is now going to be a toss-up for number one. It's going to be a back-and-forth situation from now on.
