Ralph Patricelli’s half-million-dollar home on the breathtaking Outer Banks of North Carolina was recently destroyed during a storm. Patricelli, who lives in California, planned to spend his retirement at the house. He bought the place last August, and hadn’t spent a single night in it. The heartbroken former homeowner told Inside Edition’s Jim Moret, “I don’t have anything left except a vacant lot.”

There should be laws against building so close to the ocean for environmental reasons and for scenic reasons. I saw homes too close to the ocean here on Hawai'i Island get taken out to sea from a small tsunami. Plenty of us commented for years about those homes being likely to get wiped out from a small tsunami and when it happened nobody was shocked except for the home owners.

Is only a matter of time for nature to claim the beach. And then I saw this couple of weeks after. Hopefully they had some good insurance. With background of carpentry I know it takes a lot more than wooden stilts and depths that average home owner can afford to have engineered and built to keep houses that close to the coast from crumbling eventually.
