I grew up in Baptist and Evangelical churches. Through the actions of individuals (that I knew) who claimed to be Christian and those of much of the Christian community, I have come to the conclusion that most their teachings to be farce. I've always taken exception with the concept that the belief in and adherence to the teachings of the Bible are the only way to "salvation". I often think about cultures throughout the world who live remotely and have no access to the Bible. Were they born to burn? Seems to me that all religion is cultural therefore speculative. I believe that the actions of missionaries have done more harm than good. The phrase"Real men love Jesus" has always bothered me.

Unfortunately you also got it wrong with David killing Goliath with a slingshot. There is a huge difference between a slingshot and a sling. The former is a toy or implement used to kill small animals like rodents. While the latter is a lethal weapon in the hands of a skillful skirmisher or slinger. A slingshot uses small stones or pebbles as ammo. Slings use rocks weighing 500 grams to one kilo.

One of the more devious moves by the early church was changing the order of the books of the Bible to suit their agenda. The Jewish canon ends with 2 Chronicles after all of the Writings. When the church got hold of it, they ended the Old Testament with Malachi so it would lead into the coming of Jesus by prophetic sayings. How sneaky can you be? Just compare the two.

I like to watch things over this subject with my husband, (I’ve never read it). He’s read the Bible as someone mastering in the sciences, so he gives an interesting view on it with that education.

Um, Luther didn't remove any books from the Bible. He questioned the worth of some books, including the letter of James, which he called a "book of straw", but he didn't remove it. The removal of the Deuterocanonical books was actually done *later* by Protestant printers. The printer wanted to save money on printing costs and knew their customers weren't interested in these books. That's how we got the Protestant bible how it is today.

To add about Jesus appearing in the OT: some scholars believe Jesus was the one who appeared to Abraham when he pleaded for Sodom to be saved as well as the one who appeared in the flames with Shadrach Meshech and Abendego

One of the real problems with the Bible, is that, in Jesus' time, there was no agreed Hebrew Bible. The Saducees accepted ONLY the Torah (or the first Five Books): Rabbis (Pharisees) and Scribes often also included the Books of the Prophets (Hence we often come across the phrase "the Law and the Prophets" in the Christian Scriptures. This does NOT apply to the people but the Books of the Law and the Prophets). The Books of Wisdom (Psalms, Proverbs, Job, etc) were only included in Official Hebrew Scriptures AFTER the Roman destruction of Jerusalem - decades after the Death of Jesus.

I enjoy your Bible videos; I think they're generally well thought out and respectful. I rarely post comments, but I watch them all and usually skim the comments. Fun fact. Mary Magdalene is never referred to as a prostitute in scripture. Literally all that happens is that Jesus exercises demons from her, she is present at the crucifixion and she is present in some of the stories involving the resurrection. That's it. The common idea of Mary Magdalene we have today is an amalgamation of several Marys. Most notably, Mary of Egypt, a Harlot (the context is that a Harlot is a woman who has sex recreationally, rather than for money) who changed her ways and decided to starve herself in the desert after an invisible force kept her from entering a church in Jerusalem.

At the Annunciation, the angel Gabriel said to Mary "Hail full of grace". To be filled with grace is to be the opposite of original sin. This is Biblical.

Jimmy Ray, sorry I cannot find your comment to reply....but you say Paul did meet Jesus face to face.....Since I doubt you wish to spread falsehoods.... keep in mind Paul's claimed encounter occurred on the road to Damascus at least three to six years after Jesus death....and Paul nor anyone else claimed that to be Jesus second coming....In fact if you take a little closer look at Acts 9:3-19, Acts 22:6-15 & Acts 26:12-19 , the verses in which Paul recounts his claimed conversion, in a reputable bible! You will see Paul only ever claimed to have had a vision of the Lord which spoke to him, which falls somewhat short of the impression you are giving people that they meet in the flesh before Jesus death or during a second resurrection. You will notice I repeatedly used the term claimed encounter.... because when Paul was asked if anyone else could validate his fanciful claims he said: in Acts 9 : 7 yes his travel companions can even though they did not see anything they heard a voice....but then asked on another occasion if anyone could validated his claims Paul answers yes in Acts 22:9 his travel companions can even though they did not hear anything they saw alight...... Which provides two very important points to know....Paul's claimed encounter is a one man claim unevalidated by anyone or anything, and two...you cannot trust Paul's testimony of anything!

It's kind of funny (tragically so) that Roman Catholicism wants to retain the apocryphal books, one of which is the Book of Wisdom (or Wisdom of Solomon). That book has the most point-blank prohibition against bowing down to statues found anywhere. I was raised Catholic. Bowing down to statues is a very common thing to do in Catholicism. They want to KEEP the books but they don't want to KEEP the content. It's all just a pissing contest at that level.

I have experienced from many church teachings concerning the bible is what to take literal and what to take metaphorical. And most churches have not balanced this out clearly enough as to what should be taken literally and what should be taken metaphorically. This has caused much confusion in todays churches which has led to splintering into many diverse denominations arguing over which one is right and which one is wrong. When will this ever end? I would suppose it will be when Christ returns and of which we have no knowledge when that will be. So the churches will just keep on splintering to the point that will there even be faith in Christ when he returns? - Of which Jesus foretold this would happen

nowhere in the bible does it say the world was created 6 thousand years ago. That number comes from a monk who had too much time on his hands, so he calculated the age of the universe from the genealogy's in genesis, assuming all the generations were directly connected. That's a big assumption. Even he didn't take it literally when he did his calculations. Genesis doesn't say God created the world in 6 days either. It says on the first day... on the second day... ect... The word "day" (which is "yom" in Hebrew) can mean 24-hours, daytime, ,continually or indeterminate time. So, each of those 7 days in genesis is actually an unknown length of time, and also leave room for time in-between. The bible also says that "to God a thousand years is as a day" But even that cant be taken literally since a thousand was the largest number the biblical writers had a word for. "thousand" also meant uncountable.

Let’s not forget the bible isn’t the only religious text available to read and understand. And there over nine thousand god besides Jesus AND all the text were written by me.

I'm not sure the bible characterizes the Philistines as "uncouth barbarians". They're identified as uncircumcised but that was a state not limited to only the Philistines. There is a certain amount of snobbery against the gentiles but that's about it. The Philistines had their reign over the land of Canaan but when that ended then it was handed over to the Israelites.

While the distinction between the Immaculate Conception and the Annunciation was well covered, the details of the Catholic dogma was presented incorrectly. Because the grace from the sacrifice of Jesus transcends time,it was that grace which shielded Mary from the effects of original sin. She also was saved by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

I think serious christian studies need to focus far more on Paul, Luke and Mark. You see they wrote much of the NT bible but never actually meet Jesus themselves. And as far as being good historians is concerned both Luke 1:1-6 and Galatians 1:11-16 make it very clear no eye witness accounts or any information from any other person was used in Paul's scriptures...and Luke basically only collected hear say beliefs from unspecified people while working for Paul....where as Mark was Paul's friend Barnibus's nephew Paul also recruited! Now this does not immediately vindicate the Jews which did not buy into Christianity....because it was Paul's clever use of old Jewish prophesy in christianity to trick some Jews into thinking christiainity was where many of their prophesies were being fore filled, and the latter adoption of the Jews single god belief by the Romans as a way on generating control over people that...gave the Jewish faith and others an extension well beyond their use by dates! If religion had of been correctly relegated to the relm of 'lepicorns' , 'dragons' and the likes idiots ramblings the likes Mohamed etc, would never have gained any traction or notoriety. And hundreds of years of superstitious crap could have been avoided!

There are no contradictions in the Bible. Who is reading the Bible and finding contradictions? The dif between Lord and LORD signifies a Lord on Earth or a LORD would be Immortal realm. You gotta be careful reading the Bible. Every letter, comma and apostrophe matters. Capitalisation matters. Is this not widely known?

Funny how Josephus, the Jewish historian, listed the canonical books of the Jewish Bible in the first century. He did not need to wait for a Roman Catholic Council in the 16th century. Funny how a Jewish Rabbi was executed by the Romans for using the divine name. I thought it was supposed to be banned. The name Yeshua means YHWH is salvation.

Scripture makes *way more sense* when you study it in Greek. Scripture is full of fancy Plato and Aristotle terminology. Morals are morals to stories. Scripture helps "fix" meanings of key terms across territories and generations. Don't "update" stories. Scripture narrates a folk-anthropology. "I did not come for the righteous but for sinners." What are you waiting for? "My yoke is easy and my burden is light." He's talking about entire lives. The Body of Christ refers to His people. Jesus love you not because you are good, but because he was good. We are not made "in his image" but to imitate him. All this is more fun in Greek. The waters are sweet and warm. Jump in. I think what people most get wrong is they view the Bible as one continuous homogeneous relationship between God and Man. They completely ignore the change in relationship to God between the Old and New Testaments which is the whole point of the Gospel.

It was only a sin when Adam ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil (and yes that’s an important distinction. It wasn’t knowledge) So sin is passed down to all of humanity by way of Adam. (See Romans 5) and when God pronounced the judgment it Genesis He said “I will put enmity. Between your seed and the woman” which is the first prophecy in the Bible. Meaning that the birth of the Messiah would be a virgin birth. So yes Mary had sin, no Jesus didn’t because he was not born out of sexual reproduction. It’s easy to say that Mary didn’t know who the father was today because that kinda thing happens all the time. But remember back then they use to stone women to death for having children outside of marriage. As great as the temptation is we can not place our morality on the past. And if they were saying that “no Jesus is not Joseph’s son” would have been a death sentence to Mary. Even now a woman who has a child outside of marriage is still looked down on. Imagine how much so 2,000 years ago. This is what is meant when we say that Jesus was “fully God and fully human” As to everything else I (being a Christian for many many years now) already knew this. I just thought that this particular issue needed more attention. (Granted I do have a bias in this regard) And I welcome any descending opinions all I ask is that you prove SCRIPTURALLY the flaws in the argument. From a naturalist perspective there’s plenty to argue but this argument is inherently scriptural based and I’ll engage in any conversation from that perspective
