francisco munoz the only problem I had with my Cummins was the transmission and for close to 2k I fixed that I don't know why anyone would spend money on a truck then spend another 10k to make it reliable ...the Cummins is the king of diesels for this reason especially the 6bt
Just my preference, but a toolbox on long beds makes them look cleaner. Even a toolbox with headache rack.... just makes that long ass bed not look so long and awkward.
I have a 6.0 beast as well.. if you keep it well maintained it should last you.. I've had mine almost 9 years and have never had a problem with the engine or it 'blowing' up
How reliable has your truck been I’m thinking about getting one of these for a future buy not sure if I should get a 6.0 or a 6.7 and not sure what mods I should do first
Don't matter what USED diesel you buy you can bank on spending money. Especially if it's a work truck. My 06 6.0 has been deleted, NEW ford factory heads, FICM, injectors, HPOP, ETC ETC. 100hp tune and 30% on transmission, 4" open exhause from turbo back. Runs awesome, pulls incredible. Sounds better than both. I know guys that have 5.9 and dumped more into theirs than me. Their all good and their all bad. I just prefer the 6.0l
I have an 05 Harley 6.0 it came studded egr delete I just changed oil cooler I have a pretty much true full flow coolant filter, I bought a delta kit and a IPR research filter kit kinda merged them to make full flow filter which now my delta is 3 to 5 degrees runs great after TONS OF RESEARCH on coolant I use napa heavy duty because it won't crumble up like ford gold or even Cat ELC it turns to a sludge if anything which won't clog oil cooler, I'm putting a t-4 turbo kit on truck with a 300 SXE Borg turbo on it, it takes away all the moving parts that cause issues with let's say a powermaxx t-4 set up is what 90 percent of fast trucks have as a set up it literally pulls heat off of the motor dumps it right out the pipe keeps egts down plus there are less moving parts, all the 6.0 problems stem from the cooling system injectors crap out because you engine oil gets to hot due to clogged oil cooler which goes hand in hand with clogged egr cooler best advice egr delete updated oil cooler good oil cooler filtration good to go
thank you for keeping the videos short and not dragging them on, it is really appreciated. the editing is a bit annoying how it cuts all the time between what you are saying. great videos though, love the content
Rykedrick Williams after you spend 4k bullet proofing it theyre just as reliable as the 7.3s but make double the power. if you buy a ram youre spending 6k for a trans build and the rest of the truck isnt as nice as a superduty.
I have a 2000 F250 single cab 7.3 manual cab running at 385000 Miles never single problem original injectors replaced water pump alternator twice batteries clutch use it for roofing business Halls dump trailer daily with a 10,000 lb love the truck can't get rid of it
My father has owned a few 6.0s I've had a few work truck 6.0s and never had any head issues. Yes it can be a weak point only really if you put tunes or any kind of mod on the motor if you just leave them alone they are quite reliable. I've seen trucks in my shop have well over 600k with no major issues other than the typical egr cooler/valve. Easy fix for that just unplug the egr valve only in a few years of the trucks will it set a light. People tend to for get the duramax had head issues and the cummins engines liked to come from the factory with weak blocks that cracked.
Kyle B just look it up it was a big warranty debacle oh not to mention the dpfs were trash and the #6 cylinder loved to melt into a puddle of aluminum.
I have an 06 Amarillo. Big yellow beast. I put a new Motor in it last year. for the price I paid, motor and truck. I would have only had a Duramax with 200,000 miles on it. Plus I still the chance of catostrophic failure just like the Ford depending on how well the Chevy was taken care of. Its really about supply and demand with these trucks. These Fords were produced 3 to 1 over the Dodge and Chevy trucks therefore many of them were abused more and just more of them out there. Therefore if you want to be able to find parts and not get raped (as bad) The 6.0 just makes sense. I did some upgrades with the new motor install but will eventually have a stage 3 bulletproof truck in the next few years. Plus it looks better than most trucks because I had extra money for Lift and asthetic upgrades. Unfortunately the new Fords are now as highly sought after as the other brands. So us Ford fans will have to wait a while for a newer upgrade if we want to or need a cheaper option.
Have to disagree with the pricing. Around here in idaho, cummins are priced sky high, powerstrokes are affordable and fair priced, and duramax you can't give those away. No resale value for duramax here. Other than that, good points in the video
I work at a mechanic shop and I will tell you what. 6.ohs make me a lot of money. 7.3 is the way to go. One came in the other day that looks just like the one in the video and the guy turned up the boost all the way on a stock engine and destroyed the low pressure oil pump and the housing. (Located on the front of the engine on the crank)
Hoonigan Automotive one can not turn up boost. You can only add more fuel.. Stock injectors can only push so much boost so there is alot more behind it then you think.
Nick Rodgers You can turn up the boost by messing with the wastegate or getting an aftermarket wastegate and letting all the exhaust flow through the turbine instead of some of it.
Hoonigan Automotive that is not how it works lol. You can't tune a waste gated you can only plug it. And as I said before stock injectors will not over boost. Unless you have a God awful tune that just dumps fuel and runs your egts through the roof you're not gonna cause any stress.
lots of hateraid drinkers here.......i could say a good or bad thing about them all. Owned them all, worked on them all. MANY of the problems on the 6.0 were Fords doing. International went to a European designer for the 6.0 (thats why oil filter on top like a BMW and ect), and then they added things that the designer never intended like "inductive heating (that buzzes ALL the injectors and burns out the FICM). The other thing was the owners of these trucks thought they could beat them like a dog like they did to their 7.3s and they would be just fine. Nothing is further from the truth. The 6.0 is VERY picky on its fluids and its maintenance. Since the 6.0 also brought alot of new tech to the market, both owners and dealers were not prepaired for the sudden shift, and this resulted in broken rigs, pissed off owners and a VERY long backlog of warranty repairs. All in all, the 6.0 is not a bad engine, if you stud them because there are only 4 bolts per cyl not 6, remove the EGR, and proper tuning, they are damn fine at what they are designed to do. That all being said, you NEED to contact Powerstroke Speciality (link below) and have Bill set your truck up RIGHT. All he does is powerstrokes, and he offers a lifetime headgasket job. www.powerstrokehelp.com
SSG Pentland that's all well and good but they engine should be throughly tested and the logistics and training be implemented before they distribute a new engine. After the 7.3 ford went through the 6.0 and the 6.4 and lost many customers. You don't let your customers find your product defects. Bad way to earn loyalty. But I do say the new smog requirements for desiels are killing them.
I agree with you all the way. I never could get the funds together to bulletproof mine. But 220000 miles later and 10 years of ownership and the head gasket and the injectors never have been touched. This is due to maintenance and not tuning or lead footing something that goes wrong is only fixed by myself and is fixed as soon as the parts arrive all in total my 05 6.0 has cost me less than a thousand dollars and I thank God everyday that it starts and runs like it should
Had an '03. Worst vehicle I've ever owned. Went through 27 EGR valves under warranty. Then the heads started to lift. I traded it off. Lots of optimism in the comments. I wish everyone lots of luck! You'll need it.
Be careful with the tuning... I highly recommend deleting the EGR if not already done. I would also look into an external oil and coolant filter from sinister diesel. I drive an 04 6.0, and have installed the coolant filter. I have changed the coolant filter twice, and both times have gotten casting sand out of it. As far as performance, the 4 inch exhaust is the single best thing I've done.
There fucken work horses I have a 04 stock 6.0 with 308km with 4"turbo back and Intake and it shifts so much smoother hauling trailers and they can handle so much more over dodge and Chevy for sag
TheJman bought a new 05 6.0 and I was very dissatisfied and was in the shop alot in fact at 15k miles it was being pulled out of the truck because of cylinders being washed out ...there is a reason it was Nick named the sick oh
I have a really hard time believing that. They are beautiful, powerful trucks, I just know that they have a lot of notorious problems. Two people I know have had injection pumps go out on their 08's at 150k, plus the fuel seeping into the oil and the egr problems, sounds like a time bomb to me. I guess there may be a lucky few out there that never had a problem with crazy high mileage but majority rules.
