I bought a 1990 YJ in 97 with 69K miles. It was a 5 speed with a 4 cylinder. I used to drive it on the highway all the time. I had it over 100mph quite often (that is the hillbilly speed limit in Northern NH LOL) The only issue I ever had with it was not being able to have a cup of coffee in it without spilling it. I put 125K miles on it over 6 years then my son drove it for 2 years before he left for the Marines. At 230K miles it still looked and ran great. No rust, no major issues. It needed a clutch when I bought it and the front rotors had a recall but it was due for brakes then anyhow so that saved the labor cost of a front brake job.

I've had two DJ-5s which I bought from the post office for $600. When the first one died, I got another, also for $600. That's how much I liked them. For those of you who do not know, the DJ-5 is a Postal Jeep. The 1975 models I had came with an inline 6 engine. One of the spark plugs was practically unreachable because it was right up against the cab wall. I don't know what you call it. Another problem was that the DJ-5 requires 18lbs of pressure in the front tires and 26lbs of pressure in the rear. I discovered this the first time I had to put air in the ties. Eventually I replaced them and told the guy who put the brand new tires on NOT to put the standard 35lbs in them. He didn't listen to me, which I found out the hard way as soon as I pulled out of the tire shop. The vehicle was all over the road... no traction at all almost like driving on a slick track. Not only was the info in the vehicle's manual but also on a on a steel plate attached to the dash. Even so, I loved those little 'Light Utility Trucks' and which I had one to day, right hand drive and all.

It's the luxury version of all Jeeps, a whole different world than the Jeep in this video. Dependable, and will beat any other vehicle in its class in off-roading, if you're into that sort of thing. I'm not a fan of beating the hell out of my vehicles.

We had two rental cars on our trip, one for four weeks. That was a 2021 Grand Cherokee with 3.6 gas engine. Our second rental car, which we only had for the three days we were visiting my sister and her husband in San Diego, was a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport. We love Jeeps. I started out driving a Wrangler in the 90s and now have another one - as a toy - of the same approximate age as the first one. I really enjoy the ease at which the Jeep can be diagnosed and repaired by myself versus the extremely complicated modern vehicles. I do not feel the Jeep is particularly prone to breakdown versus some of the other brands I have driven (Mitsubishi, Audi, Kia, etc.).

On the way there I had the sunroof part of the softtop flipped back but still had the rest of the softtop on. Halfway to SA I got pulled over by the Texas Highway Dept and I pulled over and asked what was wrong? He said I caught you doing almost 100 mph. I started laughing. He said it's not funny and I said your exactly right the only way I was hitting 100 was falling off a cliff especially with the top open. The top might as well be a parachute to slow me down. Anyway he said he could have mixed us up and after checking my license, reg, and insurance he let us go. 100 mph? Those things had like 89 hamster power. I got stuck in a ditch and my friend pulled me out with his four wheeler. Man it would shake going down the freeway. I’ve had several jeeps from a jeep Cherokee XJ to a jeep grand Cherokee Laredo to a jeep patriot and as long as I have been taking care of them they’ve always served me well the problem is is that people use and abuse these vehicles and think that they can just go off running with them even though they are bare stock

People abuse the hell out of them, then sell them off to someone who doesn't know any better, and that's when all the mythical problems arise. I've seen AMC jeeps from new till hundreds of thousands of miles, only requiring regular maintenance. Seems that people expect all of them to be money pits straight out of the factory Now, after a certain point in time after chrysler got a hold of the name, that's a different story and a different jeep. Just don't buy someone Bubba always fixed himself and you should be just fine.

Actually that motor would benefit by adding a 4 barrel with the proper cfm for that size motor, and would get better gas mileage. That being said, a CJ that is in proper driving condition will run on the interstate just fine. I know because I have owned several back in the day. Ive been drivin a Jeep, and I mean a real Jeep, everyday since I was 17. And for me, they are the only thing I would consider driving as a daily. All American, 4wd, convertible, easy and cheap to fix makes up for the gas usage, and they are very dependable. I drove a cj5 everyday for 7 years, has a 258 straight 6, went from ny to fla pulling a trailer, went the highway the whole way. Love it, still have it. Also have a tj for comfort reasons lol but remember this, the Jeep will go anywhere forever, just depends on if you will, lol they aint for everyone, but they are for me. Great vid, keep it up.

I’m driving a 2006 TJ Sport now…Almost 16 years old…It has a modest 2” suspension lift, It’s comfortable to drive, (for a Jeep)…steering is very sensitive, original clutch and it still drives like the day I drove it off the lot!

The old Jeeps were a lot better then the competition back in the day like the toy fj. And the new Wranglers are everyday comfortable drivers that are very popular and fun vehicles and have the highest resale value and prices. C'mon Scotty drive a 392 Wrangler if you can handle it without having a heart attack from all the fun and excitement. Well restored and well kept original CJs are in demand and command high prices for such gems. Your grandson's Jeep looks unsafe in its abused condition but looks can be deceiving as CJs are tanks and well built plus Scotty wouldn't let his grandson drive something unsafe. Enjoy your Jeep.

You got a bad example of a jeep that jeep is worth $500 not $3000... 06 was the last year for a good jeep, 87 the last year for a great jeep. And willys jeep were by far the best.. Jeeps were prone to rust because the people that bought them loved to play in the mud and didnt care to keep them clean.
