I used to think Hermit purple was a lame stand, but I've since come to realize that it suits Joseph perfectly. It it a very versatile stand that only someone as clever as Joseph can utilize to it's fullest potential.
@@lilylopnco in a way, I'd think that Hamon is more powerful than most stands out there. From what we've seen, Hamon can: Make you walk on water, control liquid, heal people, revitalize, make projectiles out of anything, mind control people, mind control animals, can "magnetize" yourself to objects (and objects to other objects), can give a huge boost on your attacks, and most of all: can keep you younger.
Maybe range doesn't refer to how far it can attack but rather how far it can be away from the user. Even though Hermit Purple has a far reach, it is always connected to Joseph where Star Platinum might not be able to go across town but it also isn't glued to Jotaro.
Cool fact: Hamon is a form of energy used in Sēndo: an ancient marital art. Sēndo translates to “Way of the Hermit” and Joseph’s stand is named Hermit Purple. I just think that’s a cool call back to Joseph’s ability to use Hamon. It may also explain how Jonathan’s stand looked similar to Hermit Purple.
@@wewlad2917 that's still not entirely confirmed and also wouldn't make a lot of sense. imagine having the potential for a really unique and powerful stand and then you just get robbed of it because you happen to use hamon
@@katjavalentina Nah araki said so in Jojonium "..when I thought about putting Joseph back in the story, I needed to decide how I would visualize Ripple as a Stand. Ripple is life energy that travels through the entire body through a special breathing method. Therefore, a concrete visualization of it would be some sort of wire wrapped around the entire body, like a vine." I doubt every hamon user would have hermit purple, especially since Johnny, a spin user, has Tusk instead of Ball Breaker. Although i do find it weird that HP was Joseph's stand as he wasn't the type who seemed 100% commited to hamon. Unlike the many other hamon users we see in part 1 and 2 like Zeppeli or Tonpetty, hamon was pretty much their way of life, while Joseph merely saw it as a tool.
@@michaelmorbillionmorbius3596 actually that's true but Araki never said HP was the stand of hammon he thought HP should go with Josephs hammon you can even see electrifying yellow energy when itcomes out its a call back to hammon also ball breaker is what you get when you have spin and hammon gyro's actual stand is scan and more proof is Jonathan's stand looked like hermit purple but it was a different stand called the passion
@@zuhayranjumul5201 Firstly, The passion isn't Jonathan's stand's official name and it does pretty much the same things as Joseph's hermit purple. Second, Ball Breaker is stated to be the visualization of Gyro's spin (like Hermit Purple is the visualization of hamon), not spin + hamon and scan is stated to only be an ability, not a stand for Gyro according to JOJOVELLOR. And what I said above about Araki stating that vines are best representatives of a visualisation of hamon is pretty much confirming that hamon users should get, at the very least some variant of hermit purple.
I’d be very interested in the further development of the way of the hermit. In part 7, the spin is the alternate universe counterpart to Hamon. Naturally, if one is capable of being developed to its final stage, So could the other. I think that if hermit purple were to develop past what has been shown, it would get into information manipulation, and perfect long term forsight, expanding upon what Tom petty showed in predicting William Zeppeli’s fate. It’s very interesting to contemplate an act 4 hermit purple, or really any more developed version of hermit purple.
Hermit (reversed): loneliness, isolation, losing your way. Joseph had to grow up believing both his parents dead, getting into fights and being a punk, a far cry from the honorable legacy of the previous 3 Joestar men before him. Aside from his grandmother and the family’s friend, he likely didn’t have any friends until he was 18 when he stood up for a kid who just stole his wallet Hermit (upright): contemplation, search for truth, inner guidance. The power Joseph has awakened allows him to both search for information in his immediate vicinity as well as being the main reason they know why Holly is sick and where to find DIO. He’s noticeably cooled down from the tommy gun wielding thug he was 5 decades prior and is able to more calmly think his way through his situations. On top of all of this, his own experience as an adventurer gives him knowledge on how to handle the dangerous supernatural journey they’re currently on
Not only that, Joseph is the joestar (and maybe the jojo character that suffered the most) Joseph has lost has many close people has future trunks -jonathan: grandfather, died long before he was born. -George: his dad, died when he was a baby. -Erina: his grandmother and one of the most important persons in ALL of joseph's life, she raised him since he was a baby, joseph really loved her with all of his heart and she loved him the same. Erina died of old age in the end of part 2. -Speedwagon: Raised and loved him like his own, Joseph really loved him and saw him as an adoptive grandfather, you can see their bond in all of their interactions, i say their talk before joseph tried to kamikaze him and kars against the volcano that scene speaks for it's own. Speedwagon died of a heart atack in the epiloge of part 2. Shiza: rock Stroheim (BESTO NAZI): one of joseph most bizarre and also most loyal friendship he ever made, in all moments of tension he appeared and saved joseph's life 3 times in a row (to the point of sacrificing his robotic feet to save joseph without a doubt), stroheim screamed in pain when he tought joseph was dead, after battle tendency he give joseph a robotic hand has a gift. Stroheim died in the battle of stalingard Avdol: a long time friend, he go to the adventure that is part 3 not only because of dio, but also because he wanted to help joseph to save his daughter. Avdol was murdered in dio's mansion Kakyoin: an 18 year old japanese student that joined the group because like avdol he wanted to save holly has a form to say thanks to jotaro and joseph, has the adventure was going they became true friends and beggin to care for each other, Kakyoin was murdered by dio in front of joseph's eyes Iggy: Died in dio's mansion Lisa lisa (his mother) is most likely dead at this point (around part 4 maybe) Polnareff: they really are guffy idiots and like all the crusaders they really care for each other, he offered to go to live to gringolandia with him after dio was killed, Polnareff "died" in part 5 And spoilers for part 6 SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS Jolyne: his great granddaughter, died in part 6 And last but no least Jotaro: his one and only so beloved grandson, died in part 6
@@neil_di_giovanni98at least Jotaro and Jolyne weren’t dead for too long - Joseph would’ve had no idea what was happening during the time acceleration, and in the new Pucci-less world, Jotaro and “Irene” still exist and live happy lives
Wait, couldn't Joseph have wrapped Hermit Purple around his fists to punch stands? That way, the only thing making contact would be Hermit Purple, thus preserving the rule that only stands could harm other stands.
You think joseph wants to have a punch fight with the world or something? Just a punch and his arm is broken and going to close is bad thanks ti stop time ability dio can just do anithing and put him in trouble and well joseph i think dont encounter a lot of stands who uses their punches and the only ones i remember empress and the world haves more power than him (empress put joseph in real trouble even if he wanted to stop her from punching him, joseph wasnt that strong)
@@agustin8347 Thats may be true for old Joseph, but if he were in his part 2 prime self it would be a different story since he was vastly faster and stronger back then.
Joseph may have a rather weak stand, but damn he really knows how to use it to its full potential. Spirit Photography, Grappling, controlling technology, mapping, and more. It’s fitting for Joseph to turn this piece of vine into a very useful tool for his and others benefit
@@unknownguyindo4356 Sadly he never use it to it fullest potential, with hamon you can make shield barriers, read minds, mind control people, knocaut humans (or even kill them), heal ETC ETC, hell tompety even saw the future. I think joseph was one of the strongest characters in part 3 but sadly he was nerfed AF
@@neil_di_giovanni98 he didn't train his hamon again because he wanted to go old with Suzie and lack motivation of training it again, while he is a healthy and fit old man, he still an old man(his fighting spirit is not as strong as before) and in Part 4:DiU you can see that Joseph spirit, and mental is dying because he already gone senile.
@@unknownguyindo4356 yeah i know that, but i was talking more about part 3 joseph, to explain me better: if he used it hp better thing would have been diferent. In part 2 with the hair of stroheim he made a barrier that shielded him, his grandpa and stroheim from machine gun bullets, if he used hermit purple to make the same barrier dio would have never stabed him with the knife. Now, i know that beetwen part 2 and 3 he stopped training BUT in part 2 when he did the hamon barrier in the nazis base he had never trained hamon before.
You can really see how Joseph gets better a using his ability. The length has increased with him being able to use it as a lasso. Premonition got better by being able to essentially draw maps to specific items. His control got better by being able to play a game controller.
@@rainbowpanda7042 Was it the same picture though? It might have just been a picture of Dio, especially since Giorno's mother probably left before the Crusaders showed up
@@Mushroom-Stew who could've took it? I doubt dio would let anyone take a picture of him since he was keeping a low profile at that time. Besides it's the exact picture Joseph took
@@fullgamerxii3768 but on a more serious note. Since Stands weren't really a thing in Part 2. I mean Joseph had his but it was still developing and he didn't really know he had it. But let's say he did. Knowing Joseph he probably wouldn't immediately notice that others can't see it and when he does finally find out he'd probably be confused and very cautious of this newfound ability. So I think he'd still struggle a bit trying to figure out exactly what his stand can or cannot do.
I mean yea, imagine what other humanoid stands such as Star Platinum or Crazy Diamond can do compare to Hermit Purple. Star Platinum can smash those who gets in your way and stop time when necessary and Crazy Diamond can fix things back when you accidentally broke something while Hermit Purple is just a vine which only grab things and required to destroy an entire camera just to have a photo of someone or an object in the present.
@@Zurochase you can use hermit purple to find the location where you wanted to go if you dont know whereis it and vine slap an enemy or fuse it with hamon and use it to be spider man
@@Zurochase some are cool but humanoid stands are kinda overrated, you definitely are underestimating hermit purple and its ability and probably didnt understand it as much
At first I thought Hermit Purple was stupid compared to other stands, but then I realized how good it was based on Joseph’s character. Joseph is all about gaining tactical information on his opponents in order to trick them in battle, Hermit Purple allows him to do this really well.
It is not like He could't reach it He thought The escalator button was much closer (He was shouting like ''This escalator doesn't have a button'') so When He couldn't find it at the place he assumed ıt was there He thought that There is no button and freaked out
This is honestly one of my favorite stands and I feel like it pretty underrated, but when my friends try to question it I have have trouble defending myself😅 nice vid
Hermit Purple is pretty bad in combat but it's telepathy is pretty useful. However if Joseph had Ultimate Kars level Hamon his stand would be amazing (wrapping people in vines and melting them with Hamon).
@@fly672 you don't really need melting level hamon to make it be really good on humans, remember that it can instantly make someone passout/mind control with a bit of hamon. People sleep on how op hamon is on every living thing, if stands didn't completely block it Joseph would be op in part 3 😂
@@Nu_Type444 Stands don't "block" hamon, I think. The only reason it didn't work on Empress was because she was attached to Joseph's body. She even says that Joseph's hamon wouldn't hurt his own body.
at first Hermit Purple sounds like the worst stand. But its actually quite useful for normal life problems. (So this comment started a Discussion in the replies)
@@AthenisOculi I don't know about you but time stop seems like a really decent ability, it could also save your life in many tough situations. Hermit Purple's telepathy would be really useful tho.
@@fly672 Yeah kind of, but there's a lot of Stands way better than Star Platinum and The World on this aspect, Pearl Jam its one of best because he can literally heal crippling (Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan) and almost everything else and also makes you a god in cooking what gives you a Job :v
@@AthenisOculi Yeah also time stop isn't useful for anything else than fighting, stopping time for 2-5 seconds is a lot in a fight and could give you the edge over any opponent but not much in normal life scenario. It also puts a lot of strain on user's body and humans can't really go past 5 seconds limit, Dio could spam time stop and increase duration of it as much as he wanted (with practice) only because he's a vampire.
Hermit Purple is hella underrated IMO, I get it's not as "flashy" (although I find everything about its design and sound work fucking great) but it legit suits Joseph so well and has so many cool uses on top of just being so aesthetically pleasing
KirbyisJericho 15 With everything it can do, it’s perfect for Joseph. Guy can think of a way out of any situation and Hermit Purple reflects how versatile he really is
It's not that good for stand battles but it's so versatile everywhere else, it kinda reflects Joseph's role in part 3 really well since he's not supposed to be the star of the show, he gets a stand that has tons of utility but little offensive power.
@@insertnamehere3816 Joseph's hamon isn't strong enough to do any real damage to normal people. The only being who could hurt humans with hamon was Ultimate Kars with Hamon around 100x stronger than Joseph's.
@@fly672 joseph when he was 12 left the chopper of a plane unconsious with hamon, and he never practiced hamon at that time. Old joseph hamon is far more powerfull than joseph at 12.
2:17 i was thinking... what if when joseph get older in part 4, he got forgetfulness because of this? maybe his brain got damaged and this has caused effect some ages later.
I just found out that hermit purple could be more powerful if only Joseph was still young. Old Joseph cannot predict people's next lines, but young Joseph can, that proves that age can change a stand's power.
Hermit purple is very useful, if you have already lost something and need to find It, and use it to wander around the city like Spiderman. This stand is very versatile.
This is what I enjoy about JoJo - fights don't depend on what Stand you have. It's how you use it. Joseph has a weak Hermit Purple, but his clever trickster nature allows him to use it in creative and effective ways. And for instance Okuyasu has an overpowered The Hand, but he isn't smart enough to go any further than just brute force.
Almost every time Joseph uses Hermit Purple, we hear the sound of Hamon. And this is indeed the sound of a Hamon, because when DIO uses Hermit Purple, the same sounds of Joseph's stand are heard, but without the sounds of Hamon
One thing I love about Hermit Purple is that it not only shares the same sound design as Hamon but we can also constantly see Hamon generating and sparking out of the vines when Joseph uses it. It perfectly fits with how Araki originally designed it to be "A visualisation of the Ripple"
4:19 why didn’t you have Hamon already infused Joseph COME ON! “JOSEPH JOESTAR!!! Your stand is the weakest! It could never defeat me! “Huh what’s that? I must be going deaf in this ear. You said that my Stand couldn’t beat you? Well that’s ridiculous, why wouldn’t I use the perfect hamon conductor on a vampire!” “What?”- explodes That could have happened.
@@Livynkz so basically, Straizo, Is a hamon user, And turned into a vampire, Although a master of hamon, but still gets affected by hamon, he even killed himself with his own hamon.
@@RepublicOfUs Yeah, when he was in the boat meanwhile Okuyasu was with him, he was senile-ish. But when he saw/noticed Shizuka, he immediately warned Josuke about a stand user nearby and used Hermit Purple as well. He literally faked his senility so at least Josuke wouldn't go so harsh on him after leaving him for almost 10 years.
He got hermit purple as a stand because he can utilize anything to its fullest potential. So if he got a different stand just like Kakyoin's or Avdol's, he would be really OP
@@shiningjoot6369 that was literally jossph using a vine stand, though it is unnamed, the reader is left to use their own thinking to tie the knots, therefore this is literally hermit purple regardless of if it was named or not
Hermit Purple is the strongest stand, since young joseph had it, and it is able to read peoples minds. Araki confirmed that young Joseph had it, the rest is speculation based on evidences, like that scene were Joseph lifted the Red Aja by pure instinct.
viniwizi hermit purple have the ability to read others mind yes, but joseph did not know about it therefore he can’t use it 100%. He use it without even knowing. If he does know about it however, he could have easily know about dio ability to stop time, therefore able to tell the others crusaders about it and they would win.
Nope. This is wrong. Araki said that the crusaders would see HP in Y. Joseph, but that's because HP is hamon in stand form (stated by Araki). Also, Joseph predicting things people say is because he was a smart boi and could read people like books.
I'm surprised even Joseph part 4 for a really old guy, still can use his hermit purple even tho he's too old and weak. But reality, he can use it with his strength still, I'm impressed.
Hermit Purple is unironically powerful af. If Dio never had the Joestar stand(Joseph, Jonathan and Holy) he couldnt win since Joseph could easily find him and get some information about his capabilities. And with a plan he could use hamon to absolutely destroy Dio. Edit: since it looks weird I want to mention that "win" here doesnt mean that dio won the whole joestar battle he just won against both kakyoin and joseph.
If I was in the JoJo universe,I'd train Hamon,I think it's a lot more versatile than a lot of the Stands we have seen, you have Hermit Purple, you have the ability to create ripples of energy throughout surfaces, healing, super strength, future sight and all that is guaranteed whereas with Stands you have to take a chance
Hermit purple is very good in my opinion, you dont need to stop time or erase stuff from reality in normal life you can just give a little hit to a camera to see something you need use a bit of dirt to create a map and search what you need and stuff like that and in anime hermit was able to take control in a plane (death 13 episode) or see whats going on in a console And maybe look for information faster and "upload it" in yout head if you use it in a smartphone we never see it in so we are not going to know how this can going on but i think hermit is the best normal life stand ever
It honestly looks like Joseph channels the ripple through Hermit Purple on instinct, at least for the majority of times we see it, which means it's stats are probably a bit more deceiving than they let on, being stronger than projected, albeit not by much. Kinda fits the character honestly, his best ability has always been his skill at deception.
