Well this is a case much like the computer was in the 70s, seemed ridiculous and nonsensical to believe it would become huge, and it didn’t until it become mass market through decades of iterations and changes to it. EVs are in this state currently, they are starting to get adopted just not at the rate where consumers can easily afford them.
The problem with electric cars isn't the cars, per se. If you want one, go get one. Just don't be smug about it. You're not saving the world, and it shouldn't be subsidized.
agreed however i'd buy a used tesla for 2k in a heartbeat just for the motors/ controllers. Convert something else to that. Don't get me wrong i HATE EVs but as an engineer I'd love to geek out on a project car with tesla motors.
I have an EV. A trike with a 48v lead acid battery that cost $800 2 years ago here in the Philippines. It has saved us a lot ₱ in local transportation costs.

Electric vehicles are for homeowners who can charge them in their garage every night. If I'm renting, where am I supposed to charge it? Some hotels have chargers now, but not all, and I'm not searching for a charging station to sit at.
I never rent from hertz, I like Enterprise. Remember those awful stories of customers getting arrested for auto theft because hertz didn’t document returned cars properly.
Tesla stock is priced assuming a very high growth rate … its current P/E ratio is an insanely high 68. About 15 years ago only the most insanely growing companies would have a multiple of higher than 20. Elon is desperate to keep things going. If he doesn’t dramatically expand the business in the next 2 years, their price is going to tank. Maybe even before then. The numbers for the cyber truck were higher than expected this last quarter but we all know that’s not going to be sustainable. The trucks are garbage and word is going to get around. The early suckers will start reselling if they haven’t already, and then nobody’s gonna buy the car. Tesla is in big trouble anyway because they haven’t innovated anything new and their designs are frankly looking pretty tired and sad at this point. The Japanese car companies positioning into hybrid is something that the domestic companies are going to probably follow as well. Elon is going to get stuck with a lot of expensive junk piles

Depends on the size, operating temp, susceptibility to crushing or puncture, quality. Shavers are probably pretty safe. Small bat, runs cool, low duty cycle, never attached to your person.
The crazy thing is that people would accept hybrid cars. But all the focus is on EVs, which almost no one wants. And so companies lose billions on EVs. You can't fix stupid.
CAFE and emission standards will kill the legacy auto makers. Tesla is the only American auto maker that makes a profit from electric cars. They also make money off of selling environmental credits. If this continues, they will be the only auto maker left standing

LIFEPO4 batteries have a much longer service life..They are slightly heavier, but do not combust, that is why they are used..The prismatic cells in my solar system, has 10,000 charging cycles to 80%..Easily runs my entire house including a well pump, welder, washer, electric dryer, electric stove, electric hot water tank and everything else. And since I built it myself, the whole entire system including panels was around $7,500 dollars..My electric bill was $200 a month, in the last 3 years, I've saved $7,200, it's paid for itself already..My 280 AH cells tested when brand knew at 298 AH..They test now at 296 AH, 16 AH's above what they are supposed to test when they are brand new, after 3 full years of use..I have 27 years until they are at 80%..And my electric never goes out, and I have no bill..I do have some spare parts for redundancy, in case something breaks. My home made motorcycle is made out of LIFEPO4 cells too, charged by my solar, free transportation, and recreation, it's road and trial, full suspension..
I love lifepo batteries. When I was shopping for a battery bank like the Jackery, I made sure to buy a brand that had LiFePo batteries vs lipo for the reasons you stated.
it takes a lot of diesel to mine, manipulate, and transport the materials to make the batteries. Better just to run your auto on diesel. Locomotives are fairly simple though. Diesel generator to drive one motor to the drive wheel. Anyone know why they don't try that with cars to reduce parts?
Well, they are better. Horses are used as therapy animals for children with mental illnesses. I can't say that about any vehicle, ice, ev, or hydrogen, etc.

Tesla hasn't used the radar since 2021 when they removed it. They probably did it because at every well known crash the radar failed to detect the obstacle, so there was no point adding an expensive sensor.
I have an ev for 4 years,pretty happy about it. Nothing broken, no oil changes, range is still almost the same when I got it new. Love dinosaurs bitching about EV

Just pulled up to a Hertz so I could rent a car. They had a big sign with with Scotty's face on it that said "THIS MAN PUT US OUT OF BUSINESS!" It's over.
EVs are so complex because the goal was to have a really smart spy machine connected directly to the NSA mothership. It requires computers, connectivity, etc. And we are supposed to pay for all of it 🙂
It amuses me that the strongest anti-EV comments seem to be coming from posters that never drove one, never owned one and likely can't afford one, new, used or otherwise. A vehicle is a tool. Buy the right one, for the right job, and don't be hating on those that find an EV to be a dandy tool for their purposes. It ain't a religious war, calm down folks.
China build them cheaply because the quality is terrible. Even their casoline cars suffer from basic things like the roof leaking. When it comes to the EVs, something tells me they don't test them at all.
