Absolutely love the top-down view, really puts the motion into perspective. The typical "shoulder view" is awesome to see for the immersion, but as a sim-racing nerd I love to see the equipment in action!
Again a very interesting video thank you. 🙂 A solution about the wrong seat pressure feeling at 34 min might be that, when turning (right) only the front end should be moving (to the right obviously), the rear end would mostly be used for oversteering information. The tricky thing, i guess, is that this device is hard to set up with a triple screen. Because of the motion compensation it requires to fit the visual infos to the motion rig, i don't know if there is a way to make it happen. By the way, the immersion you're sharing with your studio is amazing. For non streamers like many of us, VR can be a good solution with this type of double traction loss devices.
Great summary of your experience with the motion platform. Especially as it is very objective, explaining strengths and weaknesses. I realized that it is probably not suited for me as I would expect more for the money. But being fair, I think this is what comes with all high-end gear. You are paying a lot more money for a little extra immersion or sensation. In the end, it is the same for all technological products. It is good to be reminded of this fact once in a while. Thanks again for the review after some time. I would really appreciate a review like this for more of your high-end gear. This helps a lot to put reality and desire into perspective... ;)
great summary, tbh i would rather spend all the cash on buttkickers and better overall equipment as that actually makes your overall experience better. Although buttkickers might not simulate forces, they allow you to simulate important road feel and add heaps of immersion (probably more overall than a motion rig but idk lol )

Great review! Well articulated and definitely less is more or do it well or don't do it all. Traction loss is very hard to reproduce. You have to keep things in perspective when using these systems. Maybe the day will come when simulation means plugging a cable into the back of your skull and convincing the mind in real time, at the neuron level. :-P
Last time i use my traction plus one hour in VR,then i was in the sim without Motion, maybe 5 Minutes in every corner i have the same g force feeling like before with Motion, than this feeling disappear slowly
It's amazing to see the progression in the production quality of your videos over the years. This video really highlights what you and Tom are capable of. It's almost to the point where I'll be checking your channel before Sim Racing Garage for a particular product and that says A LOT...
Great review as always Will! I’ve had this system for a year and agree with everything that you have said. Works fantastic with a car that understeers a lot like a Tcr and oversteers like a V8 Supercar. Not having a built in motion compensation is the biggest downside and cannot be used without it. I use the Trackir which helps but constantly has glitches and can really be off putting when the picture on the screen moves mid corner for no reason. If it had something built or a solution available I’d d recommend it but whilst this isn’t available it’s not worth all the headaches unfortunately.
Thanks a lot for your input Adam. It’s always great to hear from people who own the products we review from the perspective of someone who’s spent the money to get their hands on it. I’m glad you share our observations.
Need to get a bigger office if I'm planning on having a motion rig 🤣. In all honesty, I'm still in awe every time I look at your rig and think how much work went into that. Sim rig goals. And as usual, great review.
Good calls, Will. You detailed quite well why I never looked into motion platforms. The limitations are just too pronounced to adequately simulate what they're attempting to simulate, and at the price point, it just makes no sense. It's probably a great gimmick for shooting GoPro POV sim racing content, but beyond that it's probably not going to help your times, or real life skills.
When turned down to a sensible level, the seat mover works very well and is very immersive once you appreciate its limitations. The traction loss however I just don’t feel adds enough to justify the cost. Not for me anyway.
I think platform motion is the only motion that has any practical use. Oversteer understeer / traction loss, hint of G forces, other than gimmicky level immersion seems just not worth it. Amd given it stationary and that physics are a thing i doubt it will ever be good enough. Knowing what the platform does, as in how the suspension works like most 4dof systems seems to be the sweetspot. No exaggerated motion just simple information
@@boostedmediai have the traction plus ,it works very good with open Wheeler like BAC in Projekt Cars 2,Snow Conditions with Spike Tyres,or in AM2 ,Openwheeler on wet Tarmac. I race in VR with Varjo Aero.I spend a lot of time to find out the right settings,Cars etc, and now its a super fantastic Feeling!! If you have the Traction Plus you must try these with the BAC on Brands Hatch🏎️❄️🌧️
A system like this needs to be coupled with a G seat, Belt tensioner and finally a 4X Dbox. You will get the sustained G,s from the belt tensioner and G seat. Costy but you will get the intended effects. None of these are gimmick, none of them. There's a difference between people that want to be faster and people that want it to be as realistic as possible. You fall into the former. But you're definitely wrong about motion platforms.
Hey Will! I really recommend the DOF Reality 3DOF - I use it for more than a year an its simply perfect! And all that for a perfect (still expensive) price! Just sayin! Keep on the great work!
I came here just looking for a quick review. My wife says I talk to much I just like to make sure every detail is covered. You are the same way you have talked me out of getting this fun toy. I'll wait another year and see what else comes out. Great Review but to detailed I finally understand now what she means.
I bought the nlr seat mover from Amazon based on many reviews, I returned it.For 3k it didn’t provide the immersion I was looking for in VR or triple screen. For that 3k, you can buy a Prusa mk3s+ and all the parts for an SFX 100 build. We will see how well I like the SFX-100.
Neils is of course right, but our sense of motion is much more complex than just which side of our body is being compressed by inertia. The more profound sense is our middle ear sense of motion which is directional. Our brain can very easily adjust to feeling the slight inertia on the wrong side but feeling the motion being reversed is something that would take much longer to compensate for because we use it all the time in out daily lives just walking around.
There is actually multiplayer in bmg drive, I thought you wanted to know since you asked in one of your videos I'm a all time bmg fan and I have just subed
Will great review. As a car driver traction loss is a signal well worth trying to simulate. I went with slip sense set up from richmotech which only offers the rear traction loss. But it is very limited in range of motion but it's mechanism is pretty strong so you get a great first sensation and a decent snap back or loss if you over correct. Good stuff man keep it up.
If you're on a budget, get the DOF Reality H2 for about $1800 shipped. It has roll, pitch, sway and heave which are very effective and immersive for a budget full rig motion platform.
Great overview/review as always will! Totally agree with what you said more generally "less is more". Been considering motion for a long time but went down the route of tactile transducers for vibrations and got great results. Think NLR seat mover and seatbelt tensioner is next!
I love the seat mover! About to pull it off and install full motion. So we’ll see how the experience compares. It works brilliantly for content creation though.
@@boostedmedia awesome! I look forward to the video!! I always was wary of full motion rigs cos I've the Integrated monitor and wasn't sure how they'd hold up so seat mover seems the logical step!
A system like this needs to be coupled with a G seat, Belt tensioner and finally a 4X Dbox. You will get the sustained G,s from the belt tensioner and G seat.
Hows your NLR v3 motion seat holding up? My first one broke very soon after getting it and now the second replacement one has the same issues as the first one. I only run the motion on very low settings, no seat belts attached and i'm 85kg so I'm well below max weight limit. Seems some metal arm movements inside start to slowly grind and wear out. Something inside gets locked up every now and then and pops itself loose when it gets stuck. Its a brutal metal on metal grind n' pop too. Happens when the right side moves up/down forward/back. . Im kinda annoyed its happening again with my replacement. Looking into removing it and getting a full rig motion system instead. It's a shame as it's a very good motion seat really. The response time is very fast and responds much better than all the full rig motion systems I've tried but I just dont want to deal with another broken motion seat. Time spent fixing problems means time not spent racing.
@@boostedmedia Ah, unlucky me then I guess. I'm looking into doing the triple 65's or 55's too since seeing your first video on it. Either that or change to full rig motion system. Need to sort out at least one screen soon as the 35" ultra wide i moved to last year just isn't as good as when I had my rig on wheels in front of my old 65" main home tv. Thanks for making these great videos BTW. Really good stuff and full of all the crucial information I've been looking for. Looking forward to your DBOX videos.
Will, great video as usual. Supper informative. Out of curiossity, if you were to buy either the motion platform v3 or the traction loss, which one would you choose? I guess what I'm asking is which one has the most benefits and value. Thanks again Will.
I would like to see a motion system review using VR goggles for the full immersion experience. Every time I see one of these motion systems review using triple monitors is a bit like, meh, you are still looking a three fixed monitors in front of you in your room. Mood killer. I´d love to see how motion system synchronise with VR and some hints of what that experience feels like. I only race in VR, i trade graphic sharpness (less with every vr goggles iteration) for the immersion they provide. It is unmatched. When i try to use the monitor for racing it feel so fake now.
Will, I find the system be great for the immersion and playfulness. However I find that when motion is off I drive it like a video game... make sense? I truly miss the motion when its off. Much like butt kicker off... really notice that. I'm also turned down. I'm at 70 percent overall. Different sims different levels of motion. I agree you don't need it and in fact I'm considering a LITE rig for my office for some lunch time laps. FWIW this things has made my calendar for Friday night quite full.
Doesn't it feel wrong that the seat is moving independently from the steering wheel? Or is the movement so slight that it only feel like g-forcesacting on your body? It doesn't feel like the seat is loose?
Thank you for this motion system review!! Are you planning to review / have comments on other 6DOF stewart platforms such as DOF Reality and GFORCEFACTORY EDGE 6D?
Great Review Will, your build inspired me to replicated your rig, but today's overview of the traction system does make me question jumping in too quick. Can you tell us what you think of the NLR motion Platofrm V3 as I may start with that instead?
I really like the seat mover from a content creation perspective. Haven’t tried full motion personally yet but Tom prefers it. I’ll be putting a DBox on this rig in the next few weeks so we’ll see.
I was going to do this as well!! I had 3 65 inch tvs ended up putting them in all the bedrooms instead, bonus points from the wife.. Lg Ultragear 32 inch 1440p is what i ended up going with! 9 months later and its almost done decided to buy out right instead of a credit card so has been a slow process lol..
Thank you, very informative! I would love to add motion but don't want to invest the amount of time it takes to properly dial it in. I'd be interested to see a video on what kind of performance you're getting out of the 3090 and 4k triples. Do you prefer the larger screen size over higher framerates? Or are you making a compromise for the sake of better content? 🤔
So if I understand you correctly, this really helps you feel the slip angle, and maybe getting a little more on the limit because you can feel when you're exceeding the limit of the slip angle before you actually start to lose grip?
If I ever win the lotto I'm flying you and the family over for a holiday and afterwards getting you to create a sim like this for me, and I totally won't chain you to a radiator in the basement, I promise.
Looks like a great rig how much does it cost all up with just the one wheel base and pedals not all of the wheels you have and it would have been cool if you had used a v8 supercar for the lap around bathurst
🤔Hi.., Will. Would you consider also reviewing the *PT Actuator - Scorpion Series* 6DOF motion platform solutions in the future for a Head-to-Head comparison of similar highend systems..??? 🤔 Thanks..!!!
Hey Will, great review. Just wondering, what are you thoughts on using the platform to actually learn a track in real life, I.e. not to improve sim racing performance but real life performance. Do you feel it will add value there? Cheers.
I just got into sim racing got the starter pack logitech g920 wheel and pedals with a buttkicker I got from pagnian imports but can't get it working. I live just around the corner from their show room on the Gold Coast. also have a 3 27" monitor setup.
How come you didn’t get Dof reality p3 or p6? Is there a reason for that? Because p3 cost 3k with traction loss compare to 3k seat mover + 6k traction loss.
Hey Will, been going over some older vids just sussing things out and was thinking, have you had the custom loop 3090 hooked up to anything but the 65" 4ks? Would love to see a test on some 240hz 32" 1440p 1ms monitors or even those 43" gigabyte 144hz 1ms 4k triples🤔
Great review but for me it's not worth the price that they asking obviously it took a lot of time to develop something like that but when you have other companies doing a whole motion platform rig for 2500 us dollars it's kinda hard to beat that
It’s spot on when you’re sitting in the drivers seat. But yeah any time the camera is further back than the driver’s head it looks ridiculous. We had the camera alignment out on the gopro and didn’t realise unfortunately.
