Id say its not held together at all and were playing with broken pieces of a game. But somehow id rather play this than 99% of games.

@@davidbass3178 most of what makes melee great is intentional (airdoging into the ground putting you in a special landing state that keeps your momentum but prevents your from acting for ten frame was intentional, so were shield dropping, l canceling, jump canceling etc) They obviously could not predict every usage we would make of theses mechanics, but the fact that they even thought of subtle things like forbidden sdi's, and made an engine that holds off so weel despite all the abuse we threw at it, in such a short time is amazing. Melee is far less "broken" than people think

not at all, if you plat melee casually you probably wouldn't notice most if not any bugs, but because the game is played to such a level and it's been out for so many years people have noticed all this things, i think that what you are saying it's like saying that because you can beat ocarina of time in less than 10 minutes the game is broken and it barely holds up and that is not true at all

Remember all this stuff only matters because it's been stripped down nude from a 1500 queen's attire, like Mario 64 but it can be negitive because it's multiplayer.

Super Mario Sunshine was also pretty jank if you know what you were doing.

Interested to hear where your pre-asumsaus melee impressions came from. No offense but I’ve always perceived the hate this game gets as coming from a place of misinformation. “3 viable characters,” “outdated broken mess,” type stuff. This community just feels too broad and dedicated for someone to have their opinion change so drastically because of one video series. As if you didn’t want to believe any of the fans had justifiable reasons for loving it the way they do. I could see the community’s prickly nature turning you off from engagement but I never interpreted that as a mark against the game.

Ian White for me, I tried playing it recently after it being constantly lauded as an eternal masterpiece, but I kinda hated it. The biggest problem for me was the lack of a buffer, which just made it feel like half of my inputs were blanked and I needed to mash the next move if I wanted it to come out. It felt super clunky.

Ian White also, when I asked if this was normal i got shat on and told to practice for more than just two days, then I'd get the hang of it. But I don't really want to spend a week just so I can be able to play the game comfortably. That's just too much time just to get started, I'd rather play ultimate or a traditional fighting game.

@@judjudson4399 it's not for everyone. if it did have a buffer, it would ruin the skill of the game and it would be completely broken. in melee there's a constant tradeoff between what you want to do and what you're willing to attempt to execute because of its technical difficulty. If everyone could just run train with buffered shine shenanigans every match would be fox vs fox. sorry that you had a bad experience with redditors or whoever. realistically though, if you can't enjoy a lack of ease-of-access features in favour of precision inputs, melee isn't for you. it's part of the game experience to the core.

Alex Rose I mean that's true, but it felt like things like my jumpsquats were overriding inputs. I don't even think a buffer would make those technical tricks difficult to pull off, and I bet I could learn one. It's that the lack of a buffer made it feel like most of the time my character just wasn't doing what I said to do. The idea of a fast smash game is great to me, but I feel like any other smash game would have the same amount of wacky tiny discoveries if it was followed up by brawl. Most of what people like about melee are mistakes, which to me says that the game isn't that great. The tournament ruleset is a great way of playing, but for example if you could regrab any number of times the game would have a horribly campy metagame and things like that.

Some people are just more implicated in the brainstorming activity about what they like, you know. Techskill and theory are some special parts of esport. If you neglect it you'll be worse than someone who always works on it. Obvious, right ? Asumsaus is surely greatly interested by theory is what I mean.

@@guillaumegalienne6351 See I've played Smash casually since 64 came out, but didn't even hear of a wavedash till around Brawl and didn't decide to get into this part of it until a few months ago. I have plenty of experience casually playing, just not much knowledge of advanced things until fairly recently
