Best wallabies performance in years. Expected them to choke near the end, that long penalty at the end, got a stiffie for a second when I thought it was going over. Second test is the real challenge next week tho
Just goes to show what a good clean out of a rotten coach and ageing players can do. Never underestimate the younger hungrier generation coming through. Definitely humbled the All Blacks today. Oh and a few fans too haha. (P.s I’m a all black fan but love to see the wallabies compete again.)
Neither team had played much rugby because of covid, new teams, new coaches, it was always going to be a mess. In the end neither side had the wherewithal to win. All blacks will win at eden park comfortably.
Congrats to the two Fijian winger for Wallabies. Last time i watched overseas team with two Fijian winger way back Joe Rokocoko & Sitiveni Sivivatu for All Blacks and they both scored just like Koroibete & Daugunu.
Ritchie Mo'unga is undoubtedly the better super rugby 10 but for which ever reason, his skill set and confidence seems to get nullified at test level. Like Ma'a Nonu who never really shone as the best midfielder in Super Rugby, Beauden's mentality and skills are in a place where they really step up in the international arena.
Wellington isn’t an easy ground. Plus this team is a new mix. Let’s do how the boys do next week then we can really make a call. I would like to see ALB and Caleb starting. And maybe make Jordan available.
Anyone notice how different the wallabies played today without their toxic coach. Seems Rennie has already made a positive influence on these guys. They played their game plan and had no intentions of being dirty or grub. Respect!! Would love to see them win the Next 3 games to make things more exciting down in here in the Southern Hemisphere. Outstanding game from both sides, however, I know I will get some backlash here, but the ref was missing a lot and it appeared that there was some bias towards the ABS, eg; favourable advantage, missed their their nock on’s, coming in from the sides, just saying.

Welcome back Australia. Think your futures looking bright with these youngsters and Dave Rennie at the helm. AB forwards need to pony up and actually get over the gain line next weekend. Caleb Clark got more go forward in 5 minutes than the whole pack did in 88.
Nebrox True but I’m encouraged by how well your U20s have done the last couple of years. They pumped the Junior ABs last year and a few of them are in this new squad. You’re in a good place 3.5 years out from the next WC.
True. Eddie Jones showed the world last year what happens when you boss the ABs forwards. Other teams have caught on. For years everyone thought that it was the All Blacks backline that beat them and they didn't give the forwards their dues. The ABs forwards crush you and then the backline tears you apart. If you stop the forwards their backline seems fairly average like it did today.
@@drisszyani3497 I doubt they will change before the next World Cup. They have had big success from consistency and they know the pain of making rash decisions which was the culture pre-Graham Henry. Unless Foster allows a real drop in standards there is no way they would just ditch him. I also doubt Foster is as bad as a lot of people are making him out to be. He has decades of experience and has been in the All Blacks set up for years. As the year progresses his effect on the team will grow.
I said this about the world cup the coaches selection of the number 10 is what cost us the world cup.. Mounga is a good 10 but Barret should always be the 10 has has so much experience international and he's been playing next to some of the great role models with skills like Richie, Kaino,Read, Carter..etc
TJ needs to pull his head in.. he is a senior leader in the All Blacks. Yet.. 88min overtime.. 1m out in front of the goal post.. he gets white line fever.. selfishly forgot his #1 role as a halfback.. organize the forwards.. pass the ball to the backs.. show composure and prep Mo'unga or JB for the drop goal. Reiko didnt help with his brain fade dropping the ball with no pressure on him over the try line.
Totally agree, I really thought the AB's were setting up for the drop goal? A fantastic performance from the Wallabies. Great for Rugby. Though the AB's defence was outstanding (twice as many tackles as Aus), hopefully the AB's can improve the possession and territory stats. Tough conditions but an awesome game to begin the international season.

Reikos mishap did cost them but at halftime abit early to call a definite win for the AB's wen theres another 40mins to go its only becoz we now know it's a draw we look back and go oh see his fault,nah that's not fair on reiko we had other opportunities afterwards aswell that players botched.

Forward pass in build-up of Rieko try. Good game but typical Southern Emisphere madness to not take the drop goal. Surprised by JOC who played several seasons in Europe to not stand in the pocket at the end. Australia looked the better team overall.
Well done Wallabies. They showed they can compete against NZ but Reiko Ioane's show boating was and not going for a drop goal is unforgivable at this level.
That was an incredible game with many talking points. Firstly, Reiko Ioane was fortunate that Angus Gardiner missed his foot in touch in the build up to Jordie Barrett's try and then Ioane blew it by losing the ball forward in the act of grounding for a try. As per usual the All Blacks are never quite at their best in the first game of the season and the Wallabies put in a strong performance. Reece Hodge almost emulated the great John Eales by kicking the winning penalty into second half injury time at the same ground but the upright got in the way. Both teams had opportunities to set up for drop goals and at one point Richie Mo'unga had dropped back into the pocket for one, but both of these teams seem to want to back themselves to score tries to win games and so a drop goal was never attempted. The Wallabies - as good as they were - had a clear game plan to disrupt the All Blacks around the rucks to slow their ball down. I lost count of how many times All Blacks were held back away from rucks and players contesting the ball were regularly cleaned out illegally by Wallabies players entering the rucks from the side. They played to the whistle and got away with it so you have to give them some credit for that. Even though they missed a golden opportunity to beat the All Blacks in New Zealand for the first time since 2001 the Wallabies will be the happier of the two camps. Ian Foster was not the preferred option to take over from Sir Steve Hansen this year with many wanting the highly successful Scott Robertson to take the job, so Foster was already under huge pressure from the get go to coach this team and a draw in their first game will not help convince people that he's the right man for the job.

Terrible mistake by the linesmen to not question the closeness, of action leading up to the first try. Ioane at the end costed a sure advatage but really impressed by how the Australians fought!!!
I notice he doesnt usually dot down in diving position with ball grasped to your chest like how they normally do. I always knew one day it would get to him and that day is today. Should do few practice dives during training.

Damian McKenzie ripped that ball out which resulted in a try and one of the All Blacks threw the ball infield, when he was about to step out, which gave the Aussies possession and put them under immense pressure. Both times the players didn't know what was happening behind them but did it anyway. It is unnecessary risk, no payoff. The fact that the crowd can't recognise good decision making doesn't mean the decision is wrong.
Ima be honest, as a kiwi and All Blacks supporter, i feel that both teams did terrible on the first match, but on the second match both teams did well.
What a great start to the Bledisloe series. Great play and missed chances aplenty on both sides. Don’t know why either the Wallabies or AB’s didn’t slot the drop goal at the end of the game!. Should be a beauty at Eden Park next weekend. Will be getting up early in the UK to watch the game, hopefully more of the same.
Wow I knew Renee would make some improvements to the wallabies but honestly they look like a different breed out there. Reminded me of the John Eeals kick if hogo had got it over 🙌.. Are the wallabies back?? Only time will tell?

Let’s not forget that the caketin (our stadium) traps the wind inside, causing it too zoom around and around like a hellish vortex. It would have created extraordinarily difficult circumstances. No wonder there were so many handling errors. So if you’re ever going to a concert in Wellington, make sure you get field/mosh pit tickets. Otherwise, you’ll be blasted by the wind 😂

Wrong call by the TV ref for the disallowed try in the first half. Downward pressure is all that's required, even if it is just the tip of one finger. At no time was there no contact with the ball. A careful look at the replay showed that the tips of his fingers were still in contact when the ball touched the ground - that's all it needs.
A real pulsating game. POINTERS Rieko's laxity; Wallabies tenacity in defence; the debutants commitment. Enjoyable. Look fwd to next game. Great finishing by Fijian wingers. Prediction OZ will be confident to win.

That was a try from Reiko there was downward pressure even though very little and you can see that his fingers were still in contact with the ball when placed on the ground bad call at no point was the ball knocked on prior .
