The place I rent has this unit but with just two screws hold the front on. It’s been 99 and up here in Florida. My little place just wasn’t cooling down. Looked in the unit and saw this solid black mass. Followed this video and after an hour of cleaning the blower it’s like a whole new unit. So cold and so much air. Thank you guys.

THANK YOU!!! -Your video just saved us hundreds of dollars as the installation tech said, “There is no way you can clean these yourself. It’s just too technical and could be dangerous. We recommend you getting us out here every three months…no later than 6-months between cleanups. For your four units it would be $500, -but we’ll give you a discount to $350.” $1400/year Vs a couple of hours and a pack of Clorox wipes. Actually was fun once the first one was done!

What a joke. If your careful with the plastic you don't need to call anyone. You need 1 screw driver and 45 minutes. An hour if you've never did it before. Don't believe these goofballs, I do 14 of these in a lodge every 6 months. This is not some skill a handy person can't aquire. This video shows you everything you need to do, except it doesn't caution you on how easy this plastic is to break.

Your HVAC companies are ripping you off. My company offers 2 visits a year for $200 for basic maintenance where we clean and inspect all the components both mechanical and electrical. I'd say call around and talk with other companies if you ever find you have issues or get sick of doing the maintenance yourself.

Not all mini's are as maintainable as mitsubishi. On some makes the blower wheel does not come out like that, it is the deepest part. The whole entire unit has to be disassembled in order to get it out.

Great video, saving people money! You're providing a great service to people... I've got an HVAC buddy and I asked him to check the pressure of my freon. I told him I'd read that low freon will cause freezing over. He said yes, as well as dirty filters and blower wheel. I'd never thought the blower wheel would have such an impact, but I'd also noticed diminished air flow... waiting till sunset to pull blower wheel. My filters have never really been dirty, each time I cleaned them.

Thank you! Had no idea about air conditioners. It was dripping onto my wall, most likely from a blocked evacuation duct (it was newly installed last winter, not sure how that happened). So what I did was disassemble the front part and tilted it some more so that it dripped from the blade fan, into a large bowl. It got us through June like this, when one day we noticed the bowl stopped filling. The evacuation duct cleared itself of the debris, and now the condensation drips outside again. Now its September, and we are on the last days were we need the AC. I managed today to put it back and take out the paper I slit in for tilting it more. Learned a little bit about how air conditioners work, and fixed it myself. Feels great. Hope you have a great day!

I’m so mad! My until stopped working last night. I have either this exact model or one that’s super close to it. When I got it, they told me they are super easy to maintain, just pull out the filter things once ever few weeks & rinse off, put back in & that’s it. Water was dripping, so I tuned it off & left it. Came to YT & found this video. I didn’t know the blower wheel needed cleaned like that. I live in the country where we get horrible wind (Eastern Oregon), it’s hot AF in summer & always dusty. I just looked at mine & that thing is GROSS! It literally looks like dried mud on it. Thankfully my husband it’s good at things like this & is gonna take it apart now to clean it. Our one upstairs stopped working last year. I bet the blower wheel is so bad that it can’t rotate. I’m so thankful you did this. You’ve saved us a headache & a lot of money. Thank you!!!

Good thing to do as well is blow out the drain line from the inside when you have the drain pan unmounted. I just use a nitrogen tank with an a/c line set flush attachment and as little nitrogen pressure as needed. Helps eliminate the service calls for water dripping down the wall because the drain pan is clogged (which is more than half of them from my experience).

Be sure to inspect the wheel and determine if it's good enough to go back in. Some mini splits have a rubber end holding the shaft that acts as a flex coupler. If that wears out and gets too soft a perfectly cleaned wheel will vibrate even with a new motor and bearings.

This is the method with Mitsubishi units. Most other units don’t require the pan to drop, and have a bushing/bearing on the far end of the wheel that needs to be dealt with. Some Daiken units don’t even have a set screw making then even easier to clean. Which is a good thing because for some reason Daiken units seem to get dirty the fastest.

I should try to remove the drain pan first next time, thanks.

Tried cleaning the fan in the bath with a hot soapy water scrub but it was no good. Water blaster is definitely the way to go. Cleaning the radiator fins and the rest of the parts left attached to the wall is not so simple. If I do it again I think I will try to have a water proof drain curtain so I can wash out the radiator while I have the fan out.

Great video--succinct and excellent lighting to actually see what/how of things are being done/manipulated (SO rare!🏆). I've done this entire process 5 or 6 times. The cleaning process is not too bad, But I do have one dreaded moment: Getting drip tray reinstalled. Do you have any tips to offer a on doing this step? I can see guide area where white edge should slide up and into place, but I typically feel/hear crunching of metal trying to move in the drip tray. So I'll stop, and gently try to work it back into place. Always seems it takes me an hour to do this one thing--- I worry I'm damaging that area of the unit. I'd really appreciate it reply if you have a moment to provide such. (I live in North Florida👍.)

A lot of vertical floor fans use the same type of blower wheel… If you search, I would imagine you might be able to find a found that you can buy and harvest just the blower wheel out of it to replace yours. Just a thought. Also, if you know anyone with a 3-D printer, they might be able to 3-D print you a few fan blades that you can glue in with something like crazy glue or E-6000 (just make sure to give it at least three solid days of drying).

I had this problem and had to remove the motor. The angle that the blower wheel has to be in will not let it to slide off the motor shaft. Unless the motor brackets are at least loosened the fan will not slide onto the motor shaft because of the angle the blower wheel has to be in to remove it and reinstall it. I did manage to get the blower wheel off the motor shaft by prying the blower against the fan housing but was unable to slide it back on to the shaft without loosening the motor.

Great job but you forgot to tell us how to unclog the drainage if was clogged and dripping indoors. Nasty job but crucial. I’m learning for myself because I’m tired of those who just do what I can do (usually just some individuals in need of earning a living with zero professionalism on their sleeves) and claim they’ve cleaned it taking money on empty. 🙄

My blower wheel wouldn’t come out. I have a comfort star. I was able to follow all of the steps up until removing the blower wheel. I noticed you cut the video when doing that part. It might’ve been helpful to see exactly how you removed it.

I have a Lizzeti wall unit, it doesn't have a set screw on the right side (that I can see). My blower wheel also has a bracket with a rubber bushing on the left side. I was able to pop the bracket out and the left side is loose but I can't get the right side out. HELP PLEASE
