I have had the good fortune to experience several trips up the Slough Creek drainage, once during a multi-day backpacking adventure during the summer and once skiing it in the dead of winter. Both were excellent trips. Your video brought back many good memories of the wonderful sights and sounds YNP has to offer, especially if one takes the time and makes the effort to explore the trails. Wonderful as always! My grandson was 5 when we were there and he did the Junior Ranger program. So cute. At the end he had to get his badge from a ranger. I thought it would be a badge and a picture but he sat down and went over every page in the booklet with him. I was so impressed that he took his time. We have reservations to be there in mid September. Can’t wait.

You let us see nature that many of us would never enjoy, and you do it in a way that makes it feel like we are there, watching the noble animals in nature's beauty. Thanks so much for this. I once climbed to the top of that butte at the beginning of the first meadow while my brother fly fished below in the creek. The view was simply incredible from up there.

I talked with a woman park ranger in Mammoth last year and she was everything you described. I have read Jerry Mernin's book and the rangers do a lot. Body recovery from different situations (canyon or bear attacks), rescue, and bear trapping as the visitors sleep. Mernin was very fond of his horses and mules.

Haven't ever gone to the boundary just to the ranger cabin which is 16 miles round trip. Love this northern area of yellow stone and staying in Cooke city

Thank YOU! IN 30 yrs I tried Twice to head north on that trail...1973 and 2010. First time I got scared about bears. Then in 2010 there was a sign by slough creek campground,,no overnite..Bear danger... I wish I could go w YOU sometime...My fav place on this planet. I was raised in NE Ohio and fell in love with the Park my first visit Sep 1973...I' m 66 now and just Have to get back..Now living in AZ. Thank you

I have been watching many of your videos while "sheltering in place". I enjoy them all, since Yellowstone National Park is about my favorite place on this ole planet earth. It is a treat to see what is off the beaten path, and thank you for letting nature be your soundtrack. So many travel videos use very subjectively chosen music, which can be annoying. The map you show is a nice addition. I will be returning to YNP in September, all things being equal. I made the first visit nearly 70 years ago, when bears were fed garbage behind the hotels, with bleachers set up, no less! My dad worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad (R.I.P. NP in 1969; merger with Great Northern an Burlington railroads) and sometimes he escorted tours for train passengers disembarking in Livingston for a tour of the park. Just a suggestion: I think most viewers can identify the larger mammals, but it would be nice to have identification given for the birds and waterfowl you include. Thank you again for sharing your adventures. You are an example and inspiration for responsible backcountry use.

Stan, me & my wife did part of this hike on Monday June 15th, We watched a wolf in lamar valley and a grizzly sow with 2 cubs on a mountain behind Lamar River trailhead so by the time we got to Slough it was almost noon. I wanted to make to Elk Tongue Patrol cabin but we started too late. We ended up stopping at 2S2, I made lunch in the jetboil, took my shoes & socks off and soaked my feet in the chilly creek. I had to settle for my binoculars. I lugged my spotting scope two days prior on a short Yellowstone River Picnic Area, I knew it would be too much for Slough creek. We didn't see any bears on the hike, dozen or so large Bison, 3 Marmots, Grouse, red fox and a badger on the trail. (good news is the last 3 days in the park we saw 18 black bears but no cubs-- saw a cinnamon, brown and black in the meadow across from Pebble Creek CG. The black eventually ran west towards trout lake area.) Some day we hope to make it to SilverTip and back. Keep up the great videos!

Thanks for sticking up for our Park Rangers. In 40 yrs of hiking and climbing on Rainier, North Cascades and especially the Olympics I've had maybe one ranger that was an ass. Otherwise in hundreds of encounters I have always enjoyed their conversation, advice and professionalism. I make sure to shake their hands and thank them for their service to our nation. Most are part-time/seasonal as elected conservatives haven't really wanted to fund our Parks since Reagan and Watt. Its why there are billions in work waiting to be done in the system. It's not political to point out historical facts. You do comment that this an educational site. Happy Trails.

Stan, I love your videos of Park hikes. The few times I've been in Parks hiking, I walk with large jingle bells on my boots, especially if I'm alone. I see you walking quietly & alone...it gives me chills. I've had Sows with cubs cross hiking trails I'm on, so I keep my bear spray in my hand. Did I see a sign that prohibited firearms in that park?

How is this hike in Winter? Do you have any winter hikes you suggest for an experienced outdoorsman from the East?

Stan, I’m living in Yellowstone for the next few months and I’m looking for advice on where to overnight backpack. I’m in the Mammoth Hot Springs area. Would you consider allowing me to tag along on a trip with you? I have the gear, just looking for someone who knows the area. I was going to Sportsman’s Lake, but that’s under grizzly management and solo hiking is discouraged. Your channel is a big inspiration for me, also trying to post some videos of my own. Stan, I think I have watched each and every video you have posted. They are all fantastic and so informative. They are beautiful! I love your Grizzlies but also love the little critters. I will be in Yellowstone for three days and plan to hike Sept 14. I will be alone and like you I want to be on the trail at dawn. I am experienced and hike a lot like you. I walk softly and keep my eyes open. I am also a photographer and hope to get some good shots of the wildlife. My dilemma is where to hike for one day. I am leaning towards Slough Creek Trail. Possibly Lamar Valley Trail. Would you agree or do you have another suggestion. Thank you again for your beautiful videos!

Well done content Stan. I just happened upon this Chanel today. You got some really nice light in some shots. I was pleasantly surprised to see the rangers horses in rope halters with no metal buckles and no bits!

Do they pack horse feed too? Would take a few 50 pound bags to feed those horses for a week.

My first time up slough was 1960, with my uncle, go every year.

You really put down some mileage in a day. Have a question about the rangers and the bears. Do the rangers know who the problem bears are and do they "collar" them so they know where they are and can warn park visitors if they come close, or steer the bears away from campgrounds or high volume trails or picnic areas?? Just wondered to what degree the rangers manage the bears, or the bears come and go as they please.

Some of those trails look like quad trails. Interesting that they utilize them up there

There is no better channel to experience the wildlife and beauty of Yellowstone. It feels like we are there with you on the hike. One question: How close were you to the black bear at the 1:50 mark?. I appreciate it when you zoom out after a close up. It gives us a view of the awesome environment and also informs us how you approach photographing the animals.

are they rangers or govt workers? when I worked in the park (many moons ago) for Hamilton stores. The rangers didn't normally clear trails. There were specific park service workers that went out for a couple weeks at a time to do that. They rode horseback and packed in with mules. the horses and mules were beautifully kept.

Hi Stan, what brand boot are you hiking with these days? I use Asolo, which I love, but you seem to walk through water confident that you won't get wet.

I'm in a wheelchair, so hiking is out of the question for me. However, I use to be a horse trainer, and would love to see the park on horseback. Could you do a video on horseback trails and camp areas?

Can someone tell if a print is a Grizzly or a Black bear? Or would that be to hard to tell? And why ever now and again there is a fence? I've seen several fences in your videos.

Nice video. Did you happen to hike this on June 5th or 6th? The reason I ask is the Forrest Fenn treasure may have been found near Slough Creek on the 5th and retrieved the 6th.
